FIRST - WHY AM I SELLING? I am about to turn 71, and according to my doctor - my back is shot! Just sold off my
MG-B, and my MG-TD. Now it is the Alfa. Shortly it will be my Porsche 944 S2; my Fiat Multipla; and my Nash
Healey,,,,, I am at that age where (I can't believe I am about to say this) - I NEED A BUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG!
So, the cars are going and need to sell. PAINT: Repainted – see details below.
CHROME: Rechromed – see details below.
ENGINE: Rebuilt – see details below.
This car was originally imported into the United States by an American service man stationed overseas. It stayed
in his family, passing to his brother-in-law, who sold it to me. It was taken off the road by the previous owner
around 1998 to undergo a restoration. The gentleman I bought the car from is now quite elderly and was not able to
provide me exact dates on some of the work, but I feel the dates below are fairly accurate.
Between 1998 and today the following work has been done. The car has less than 1,000 miles on it since it was put
back in running condition.
ENGINE: The engine was rebuilt some time in the mid 1990s – it has less than 1,000 miles on it since the
rebuild.
OTHER MECHANICAL: Converted to a single wire alternator, and was converted from positive ground to negative
ground. All instruments/other wiring converted. Master cylinder rebuild by White Post, brake kit and front wheel
cylinders.
PAINT: The paint appears to have been done, in the original color, sometime around the same time as the engine –
mid 1990s. The paint today is bright and shiny – looks good. (As you might imagine, the car does have a chip or
two – see below).
CHROME: The previous owner tells me that he sent “all 62 pieces of chrome” out for rechroming. I find it hard
to believe the car actually has that many pieces of chrome – but it is clear that the chrome has been redone.
(there are two places where I find the chrome to be lacking: One is on the instrument bezels; and the second is
the hubcaps – the car could use a new, or rechromed set to be up to the standard of the rest of the chrome.)
INTERIOR: The seats have been changed for those of a later model Alfa. The previous owner said he did this
because the seats that were originally in the car were not adjustable, and the replacement seats from the later
Alfa are. Seats are in good condition. The carpet set looks amateurishly installed and has some wear spots
(please see the 3rd last picture) – it should be replaced at some point. Also, the shift boot is missing from
the bottom of the shifter. The glovebox door does not have a key – may need a new lockset.
BODY: The car does not have a top – it has the frame, but not the top. It apparently was in rough shape and the
previous owner discarded it, and I’ve never been inclined to actually go ahead and order one.

Mazda and Fiat finalize deal for Alfa roadster, next-gen MX-5 Miata

Fri, 18 Jan 2013

Although a little bit later than expected, Mazda and Fiat have signed a final agreement that will bring a next-generation MX-5 Miata to the Japanese automaker and a new roadster to Alfa Romeo. When the proposed arrangement was announced back in May, the two automakers had hoped to seal the deal last year, but it doesn't appear that the production timeline for these cars has slipped any, with both expected to start rolling off assembly lines in 2015.
Other than a shared chassis with a rear-wheel-drive layout, it sounds like the two cars are still planned to be distinct in their own ways from their styling right down to their engines. Mazda will produce both cars at a plant in Hiroshima, Japan, but it isn't clear what role each automaker will play in the cars' developmental process. The big question, of course, is what clever portmanteau name we can come up with, like Toyobaru. Mazda Romeo is the easy choice, but Alfazda might roll off the tongue a little better.
Scroll down for a brief press release from both automakers.

Leno samples Corvette Z06, steam cars, supercars and the wonders of Pebble Beach

Fri, 12 Sep 2014

While Jay Leno's Garage was conceived to highlight the wonders of The Big Chin's eponymous storage facility, Leno does occasionally get out an into the larger world. Pebble Beach and the festivities around Monterey recently provided a great excuse for a road trip, and Leno seemingly had a pretty full dance card.
In an episode aptly dubbed The Ultimate Car Week, our host takes us through a pretty representative selection of great things to see in and around Pebble. Starting with a ride-along in a steam car, Jay manages to check in on the latest McLaren supercar and drive the Alfa Romeo 4C along the way. Oh, and he takes a good look at the all-new Corvette Z06 (next to the original Z06) before hitting the Concourse d'Elegance, too.

Chrysler appoints new heads of Alfa Romeo and Ram

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

Chrysler has announced to two key appointments to its senior leadership, both of them taking immediate effect. First up is Reid Bigland, who has been named head of the Alfa Romeo brand for North America. Bigland has served until now as head of the Ram Truck brand, a portfolio he now hands over to Robert Hegbloom, who had served until now as its director.
As a result of the appointments, both Bigland and Hegbloom will take up seats on Chrysler's NAFTA Leadership Team, and Bigland will also join the Fiat Chrysler Group Executive Council - the highest decision-making body in the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles empire.
As per Sergio Marchionne's leadership style, Bigland will continue to serve in two major capacities, maintaining his role as president and CEO of Chrysler Canada. Other senior executives who hold multiple key portfolios include Harald Wester (who serves as the group's Chief Technology Officer and also overseas Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Abarth), Olivier Francois (group Chief Marketing Officer and head of the Fiat brand) and Michael Manley (head of the Asia-Pacific region and the Jeep brand).
