I bought this car last year from a friend in the military who went overseas. Car had some issues, which I have since cured. I intended to keep this as a daily driver, and thus have spent over $5K to get it up to the great shape it's in (my mechanic thought I was crazy). I then just inherited a newer car and have no room to keep this. So whoever gets thsi will benefit from my loss, since there I spent more on getting it in tip-top shape than the car is worth!

Here is a summary of what has been done (by professional shop that specializes in European cars...can give contact info in case you want to speak to the mechanic/shop about this car):
  • Coolant hose leaked – wouldn’t hold coolant long – was replaced and coolant flushed/refilled,
  • Heater core leaked – heater didn’t work during winter months – had it repaired so that it works perfectly,
  • Brakes pulsed – had four new rotors and pads installed (approx a month ago)
  • A/C wasn’t working – had it checked and repaired (same time as brake job) - so that it’s blowing cold
  • Tires are approx at 80% life and have no issues
Cosmetically, it looks sharp, with some dings and chips as you would expect for the age. I also took a close up picture of the worst, which is the front bumper, drivers side close to the grill: the previous owner had a parking lot scrape and decided to touch it up with paint that didn’t quite match. Easy fix that I just haven’t bothered to do. All electronics except for cruise control work: radio, cassette, 10-disc CD changer, heated seats, power windows, seats, locks, etc. (asked my mechanic to check the cruise control, but they suggested leaving it be if I didn’t need it because they said it could be costly…I agreed and had it as a do it yourself project that I haven’t gotten around to).

The car drives like new, stops quickly and is overall in excellent shape. Don’t hesitate to call if you have additional questions or would like to inspect the car.

CAR IS LISTED LOCALLY TOO, SO SELLER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CANCEL AUCTION AT ANY TIME.
PLEASE BID ONLY IF YOU ARE PREPARED TO PURCHASE!

Audi testing long-tail version of R18 e-tron quattro for Le Mans

Sat, 27 Apr 2013

Race teams are always looking for ways to shave hundredths of seconds of their lap times. Case in point: Audi is making some slight changes to its prototype racecar to make it ever so much more slippery as it cuts through the air.
Debuting at the second round of the FIA World Endurance Championship at Spa on May 4, Audi will be testing a long-tail version of its R18 E-tron Quattro racecar. As its name suggests, the long-tail car gets a lengthened rear section with the goal of improving aerodynamics. The long-tail will be run alongside the standard version of the racecar as a testbed for possible changes that might be in store, heading into the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Audi did not say how many inches were added to the racecar, but as you can see in the image above, "long-tail" definitely doesn't take on the same meaning of classic long-tail cars of the past such as the Porsche 917. More information about the car, Audi's team and even some info about the track itself can be found below.

40+ cars that barely avoid the gas guzzler tax

Thu, 24 Jul 2014

The Gas Guzzler schedule, with mpg ratings and charges that haven't changed since 1991, lays out which fuel-swillers owe what to Uncle Sam.
I started thinking about the "Gas Guzzler Tax" - considerably less well known as The Energy Tax Act of 1978 - when I was driving Dodge's new Challenger SRT Hellcat last week. Unsurprisingly for a car that can burn 1.5 gallons of gas per minute at max tilt, theoretically able to empty a full tank of premium in about 13 minutes, the Hellcat will be subject to the Gas Guzzler Tax schedule when it goes on sale.

2015 Audi A3 Sportback E-Tron

Wed, 18 Dec 2013

A little more than a year ago, I drove an Audi A3 E-Tron prototype - an early concept electric vehicle built on the outgoing second-generation A3 platform. While I was impressed with the technology, its 3,800-pound weight, 10-second 0-60 time and 90-mile range will likely put it only mid-pack, at best, among its future competitive set. But Audi promised bigger and better things would come.
I didn't have to wait long. Immediately following the Los Angeles Auto Show, Audi asked me come drive its all-new successor built on the company's third-generation A3 chassis. Compared to last year's model, the new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) boasts a lighter curb weight, quicker acceleration and six times the range. Calling it improved is an understatement. Best of all, it's heading to production.
Technically speaking, the 2015 Audi A3 Sportback E-Tron is a parallel hybrid, meaning its electric motor is sandwiched between a combustion engine and an automatic transmission - either, or both, is capable of powering the front wheels. The gasoline-powered engine is a direct-injected and turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder, rated at 150 horsepower. The transmission is a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. A 75-kW electric motor sits between the two. Water is used to cool the gasoline engine, the electric motor and the battery pack - there are three independent closed loops.
