This Auction is for a 1974 BMW 2002 Tii

THERE ARE NO Tii PARTS ANYWHERE ON THE CAR, (standard 2002 parts only)

This car is in awesome condition and has nothing to hide as you will see in the photos.  It is a California car that has not been on the road since 1994.  I have since been to the DMV and have paid all the back fees and penalties, giving this car a CLEAN TITLE AND CURRENT REGISTRATION.  The goal of this build was to make the "Modern man's Tii".  To fulfill this goal the M42 engine was purchased.  The car started out as a almost complete car minus some interior parts. Every part of the car was strip off and boxed away leaving only a rolling shell.  From here the car was examined for rust which it had very little of and was all patched using BMW patch pieces for the parts that needed help.  Additionally all the belt trip holes, molding holes, reflector holes and bumper holes were welded shut.  Finally a custom TIG welded roll bar was installed in the car for increased body stiffness and safety for that possible track day.  Before being sent to the paint shop all body panels were removed from the car ( doors, hood, trunk lid, and sunroof).  Also the engine bay and trunk were both sandblasted to ensure a quality job would be performed in the difficult areas.  While the car was at the paint shop the Suspension was being modified to match the spirit of the car.

The front suspension was completely disassembled.  The sub frame was reinforced at the common cracking spot located at the engine mount.  All suspension pieces were then hand painted with POR 15 to ensure ultimate durability and a nice clean finish ( a hammer has no chance of removing this paint).  The sub-frame was re installed with factory rubber bushings, none of that polyurethane crap that's too stiff and squeaky.  Also during the removal process all bolts from the entire car were sent to the platers to be cleaned and zinc plated for corrosion resistance and sex appeal.  The sub frame was re-assembled using these bolts.  The Front struts on the car were removed and front coilovers were installed in their place.  The coilovers feature a adjustable collar for ride height adjustment, Eibach 300lb springs, Bilstien heavy duty shocks and an extra degree of camber built into them.  The strut bearings are also attached to a fixed camber plate adding an additional half degree of camber.  The stock hubs were removed and factory E21 Hubs were installed in their place.  This installation allowed for the front big brake conversion.  This allows for 10 in vented rotor to be installed with four piston brakes.  Everything was assembled on shop floor and awaited its fresh new body.

The rear suspension has a similar story to the front in that all the components were removed, sandblasted and painted with POR 15.  Once removed the rear subframe was modified to allow for the adjustable camber and toe package to be installed.  This will allow the owner to take out some of the excess camber that results from lowering the rear of the car.  The rear of the car still lacks decent shocks and springs.  Also the rear differential is a stock 2002 open.  The brakes in the rear were also upgrade using the E21 backing plates and drums.  Finally everything was re-installed using the newly cleaned and plated bolts.

The Tii engine from this car was removed and was replaced by a 1993 M42 motor out of a 318i.  This motor produces more HP than the tii ( about 140 total) with the addition of electronic fuel injection instead of mechanical.  The Motor, transmission, radiator, header pipe, computer and harness have all been acquired and are included with the car.  The motor showed good leak down numbers, all under 5%,(very tight), although it has not been started yet.  All Tii brackets from the engine bay have been removed to allow for this engine.

Other painted parts

Gas tank (sandblasted, painted with POR 15)

Pedal Box (sandblasted, rebuilt, painted)

Steering Box ( cleaned, painted)

White Cad plated Parts

Headlight buckets , hood latch, wiper motor, hood hardware , door grease latch, door catch, trunk hinges, trunk latch

additional parts

Painted front plastic air dam

Painted rear fiberglass bummber

Many stock parts found in the photos

Shipping

I am willing to ship the car anywhere a buyer might like, although I would require that the buyer make all the arrangements.  I also recommend that the buyer if interested stop by and look at the car before purchasing if all possible.

2013 Nissan GT-R and 2013 Alpina B6 mix it up on track and street

Fri, 24 May 2013

Here we have Autocar making an unforeseen comparison: the Nissan GT-R against the Alpina B6 at Brands Hatch and on public roads. Steve Sutcliffe clobbers the circuit in the 3,828-pound, all-wheel-drive sports car, then sees how well the 4,114-pound, rear-wheel drive grand tourer does against it.
Sutcliffe says there are quite a few similarities between the two cars, but that's really only on the spec sheet. The Nissan's got two turbos attached to its 3.8-liter V6, 542 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. The Alpina's got two turbos attached to its 4.4-liter V8, 532 hp and 528 lb-ft. But one's brief is to be a monster on the track, the other on the boulevard, and if there's anything the video demonstrates, it's each car's focus.

BMW invests in carbon fiber for use beyond i and M models

Tue, 13 May 2014

The immense amount of resources BMW has poured into its i brand program hasn't stopped, and recent developments indicate it's likely to pay off for BMW and BMW buyers outside the i brand. The i8 has already sold out its first year run, the i3 racked up 10,000 orders before it even went on sale and is already the subject of public discussion about being stretched into an i5, and a new investment in carbon fiber production has the automaker talking about CFRP use in non-i and non-M models.
BMW and SGL Group got together to form SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers (ACF), and the joint venture produces all of the CFRP for the i3 and i8 on two production lines at its plant in Moses Lake, Washington. After already investing $100 million to increase capacity, BMW has announced that another $200 million will add four more production lines, tripling production from 3,000 tons per year to 9,000 tons. When the expansion is complete in 2015, BMW says the Moses Lake facility will be the world's largest carbon fiber plant.
That's a lot of weave and the long view is that it will find its way into core models, with BMW exec Dr. Klaus Draeger saying, "As part of an intelligent mix of materials, we will apply carbon also beyond our BMW i and BMW M models in the future," and be able to do so "at competitive costs and in large quantities."

BMW to launch loaner program to avoid range anxiety on i models

Tue, 12 Mar 2013

BMW is looking to stave off electric vehicle range anxiety with a new program that offers buyers a free gasoline loaner with every i3 purchase. Ward's Auto reports BMW is confident that the EV will give buyers the kind of transportation they need for 90 percent of their trips. The loaners, meanwhile, will be available for those few occasions when drivers need to cover more ground than the machine's batteries will allow. The i3 gets around with help from a 180-horsepower electric motor paired with a lithium-ion battery pack.
The combo is good for trips of between 80 and 100 miles depending on driving habits and weather conditions, though BMW also plans to offer a model with a small two-cylinder range-extending gasoline engine as well. That option will likely set you back an additional $4,000. When the machine bows in 2014, it will likely come with a charge time of four to six hours when suckling from a 220-volt outlet.
As far as the conventionally powered loaner car goes, the cost of the program is included in the i3's purchase price, though BMW has yet to figure out how many free loans will be offered, or what happens after that threshold is reached.
