1976 BMW 2002 – 58K original miles, Manual 4 speed and RUST FREE

Overall:

Up for sale is my 1976 BMW 2002 ultimate driving machine….. This is a manual 4 speed car that was lovingly restored 8 years ago. I purchased the car from an elderly gentleman in Indiana several years ago and use it as a weekend driver. The car runs excellent and has only traveled 58,000 miles from new. This 2002 is in remarkably rust free condition. If you know 2002’s that is very rare. The floors, shock towers front and rear, trunk floor, frame, rocker panels, fenders and doors are all rust free and straight as an arrow. This car is a really fun car to drive that can be enjoyed as a daily driver.

Body and Interior:

The car had a bare metal respray in its original BMW Seafoam Green 8 years ago by the second owner who owned it for 15 years.  All panels are original to the car and it was never in an accident or rusted out. Paint is in very  good condition. Glass is clear. Rubber is in good condition. Front buckets and rear bench seat were completely rebuilt and reupholstered with the original factory beige leatherette material. Door panels and headliner are in excellent original condition. All gauges and lights, horn, wiper works like they should. Gauge cluster is not hooked up. A modern sterio CD player has also been installed. Car actually has a very good sound system.

The typical BMW 2002 idiosyncrasies still exist such as the window regulators that need to be adjusted. Driver side window closes 1/2 inch from top and the door latch needs to be adjusted properly. I am sure its an easy fix.

Mechanical:

Engine runs fantastic, starts right up and idles at 800 rpm and sounds terrific. Revs are smooth and strong up to 6500rpm’s.  Clutch feels perfectly aligned and its easy to shift. The 4 spd gear box shifts perfectly with no strange noises or oil leaks. Car pulls strong in all four gears and runs like a top at 80 mph all day long.  Carb was replaced with a Weber Carb. All ID tags and engine bay stickers are original to the car and in their proper place. Engine also runs cool. I never had any issues overheating. These engines are generally good for 300,000 miles when properly cared for and are usually very durable and reliable cars.

This 2002 can be used literally as a daily driver or for a weekend pleasure cruise. Major tune up was done last year along with valve adjustment and new, plugs, wires, dist cap, points, condenser and rotor. New alternator was installed along with a new Interstate battery, belts and hoses. Pedal bushings were rebuilt along with shift bushings. Car has new tires and has retains its original steel pressed wheels with aftermarket chrome trim rings.

The 2002 is currently registered in New York State inspected and garaged in Huntington, New York.

Closing:

The car is sold “AS IS” with no expressed or implied warrantee or guarantees. I am not a broker or a dealer so this is a private sale that is final. It is sold “WHERE IS” in Huntington, New York and if transported will be the cost of the buyer. I will load the car on the transport and see that all is safe.

I have set a reasonable BUY IT NOW price of $15K which is around my cost in the car. Hagerty Insurance Co has valued the 2002 at $17,500 in its present condition and rated the car a condition 2.  I have two kids in college right now and college costs are absolutely criminal….so I have to sell it and do the right thing…My loss is your gain...

BMW 2002’s, especially manual 4 spd cars are getting harder to find in rust free condition with low mileage. They are getting very sought after by collectors and car enthusiasts and prices have been rising fast. Parts are readily available and there is a very strong following of 2002 enthusiasts as you already know….

If you are a serious buyer and have any questions please call or text me at 631-339-3349 or contact me through E-Bay. I will gladly take any detailed photos and send them to you. I will sell to Europe/worldwide and to anyone who appreciates this car for what it is. I have the right to end this auction early since I will advertise on other venues. I will request a $500 deposit within 24 hours and the balance shortly thereafter and will hold the car for you until payment and transportation has been made. Thanks for your interest. Best of luck and Bid with confidence. Thanks Dave.

Preserving automotive history costs big bucks

$1.8 million is spent each year to maintain GM's fleet of 600 production and concept cars.
When at least two of the Detroit Three were on the verge of death a few years back, one of the tough questions that was asked of Ford, General Motors and Chrysler execs - outside of why execs were still taking private planes to meetings - was why each company maintained huge archives of old production and concept vehicles. GM, for example, had an 1,100-vehicle collection when talk of a federal bailout began.

2014 BMW R NineT

Tue, 26 Aug 2014

BMW is taking a page from the Harley-Davidson playbook with its groundbreaking R NineT. A retro cafe racer with an urban hooligan twist, the bike is fully customizable from fork to exhaust. Of course, any motorcycle can be customized, but the fact that BMW has built its newest bike to encourage modification using parts that can be swapped with simple tools is a radical move for a motorcycle maker best known for its plug-and-play touring bikes.
To underscore exactly how radical, BMW has even partnered with custom heavy-hitter Roland Sands Design, which developed the initial concept for the bike and is now manufacturing a full line of parts and accessories for the R NineT, including radial valve covers ($950), retro racing saddles ($400-$420), radial gauge housing ($400) and a radial headlight bezel ($250), among other things, all of which can be swapped with a socket wrench or screwdriver instead of a hacksaw, wire cutters and TIG welder.
Alas, the bike I tested for two weeks was stock, so consider it a blank canvas.

BMW and Samsung team up with Galaxy Gear smartwatch that talks to your i3

Sun, 12 Jan 2014

Without a doubt, the most impressive thing that BMW showed at CES this year was a driverless M235i drifting flawlessly around a wet track at Las Vegas Speedway. However, that bit of robotic helmsmanship wasn't the only trick the German company had up its sleeve. Or, more to the point, on its wrist.
Taking a page from rival Mercedes-Benz, BMW demonstrated how a "smartwatch," in this case the Samsung Galaxy Gear, could be made to function usefully with a vehicle, in this case the BMW i3. Calling it a "research application," BMW showed off its BMW i Remote App on the Galaxy Gear; the app gives information about state of battery charge, available range and whether or not all the doors and windows are closed or open. Perhaps more useful still, the watch can be used to send a destination to the i3's navigation unit, adjust the climate control in preparation for a trip and can recognize voice commands. Nifty stuff, if not world-shaking, that could help tech-obsessed luxury buyers take a second look at the upcoming BMW EV.
Take a closer look at the watch in action below, or read thru the BMW press release.
