I am selling my 1989 325ix.  I've owned it for about 3 years and its been a secondary / project car for me.

Items I've serviced replaced:

* Brand new viscous coupling in transfer case and case rebuilt by Kauth and Meyeur in Peoria, IL
* Rear driveshaft had u-joint replaced and balancing done by Driveshafts of Atlanta
* New tires (Falken ZE 512)
* New exhaust from manifolds back.  Front cat section replaced with OEM BMW Euro "catless" pipes.  Rear section replaced with stainless steel ebay exhaust.  Not loud or obnoxious.
* Front seats replaced with good used sport seats from convertible.
* Cap, rotor, spark plugs, and wires all new
* Fuel injectors are Bosch Design III 19 lb/hr injectors and there is a Mark D 93 octane chip in the ECU to compensate for them.
* Vacuum hoses replaced
* CD player from early 2000's Porsche 911 installed.  It has real RCA outputs and a 1/8" phono jack aux input for IPOD
* The front door speakers are custom 7" drivers from Madisound and the front tweeters are Boston Acoustics silk domes in oem mirror pods.
The front doors are completely sound deadened and sealed.
* The rear deck was rebuilt to accommodate 6" x 9" drivers using mdf and new upholstery.
* There is a ported 10" subwoofer box with a JL 10W3 ( box professionally built to fit perfect and fire through the rear arm rest opening)
* Front CV axles rebuilt with new grease and boots
* All transfer case and diff fluids replaced with Redline
* Compustar remote start, keyless entry, and security system.
" Precision Power Art series amplifiers from the early 90's which are collectors items now.  A404 for highs, and A300.2 for subwoofer.

The bad:

* Damage on right front corner from getting backed into by a pickup truck.
* The color was originally Lachsilber and it was repainted "Delphin" by previous owner, but it was not a quality job.  By that I mean, the masking was not done well and the tone is uneven, not glossy.
*  The sunroof does not have the headliner piece under it and does not line up well with roof.  This can probably be adjusted.
* There recently developed a lean condition at low to medium throttle but runs great at wide open throttle.  This causes an intermittent check engine light while cruising.  Possibly need AFM replaced or a vacuum leak.
* Air conditioning does not work
* Windshield wipers are parked in the "up" position but do work on all speeds.  Needs to have pivot arm detached from motor and re-attached once arms are placed in correct position.  I may get this taken care of this week.

Not shown, but I will also include my snow tire set.  It consists of a set of 4 bmw 14" "bottle cap" wheels and Firestone Winterforce tires in good shape.  This combo is unstoppable in the snow.  I also have a bin of random spare parts I will throw in.

Evo pits BMW M3 against Porsche Macan in drag battle

Sun, 24 Aug 2014

If you want to move five passengers in very rapid fashion and you've got a $75,000 budget, two newly introduced four-door models immediately come to mind - both are the highest performing vehicles in their respective segments. But which is faster off the line, to the 60-mile-per-hour benchmark or flat-out over an even longer run? Evo took both to paved aircraft runway to find out.
In lane one we've got the all-new Porsche Macan Turbo, which boasts a twin-turbocharged, 3.6-liter V6 rated at 400 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. The Porsche is fitted with a seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox, and the 4,244-pound crossover has the traction advantage of standard all-wheel drive. In lane two is the all-new BMW M3, powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six rated at 425 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. It is also equipped with a seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox, but only the rear wheels of the 3,595-pound sedan are driven. Both the BMW and Porsche arrive with launch control, which helps to remove driver error off the line.
Which automaker's launch control system is better off the line? Does all-wheel-drive grip give the crossover the advantage it needs to overcome its adversary's power-to-weight advantage? Will aerodynamics factor into the results? Which would you put in your garage, and why? The video may surprise you.

2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe is ready for your favorite roads

Mon, 14 Jan 2013

We've known about the ins and outs of the lovely BMW M6 Gran Coupe for a while now, but that doesn't mean we weren't happy to see the thing in the metal for the first time, here in Detroit.
The M-tuned Gran Coupe utilizes the same 4.4-liter forced-induction V8 that powers both the BMW M6 and the M5, with an output of 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. The fast four-door brings up 60 miles per hour in just 4.1-seconds - the same sprint time as the M6 coupe and a few tenths quicker than the M5 - and up to a limited top speed of 155 mph.
We love those performance figures - this is one new Bimmer that we're amped to get some seat time in - though we're not super crazy about the selection of chrome wheels on this particular show car. Tells us what you think about the hotted up Gran Coupe in comments, below.

Old vs. new debate gets new life with $25,000 Fiesta ST vs. E46 M3 showdown

Fri, 10 Jan 2014

You know who you are. There's probably a few of you reading; the ones that say, "Why would I spend $27,000 on a new Mazda MX-5 when I could get a used Chevrolet Corvette with more power." Yes, we're talking to you, used car proponents. While it is a fair argument, it's not like used cars don't come with drawbacks of their own, though.
In an attempt to put this new-versus-used argument to bed once and for all, Matt Farah of the The Smoking Tire has picked up a pair of $25,000 cars - a used, but lightly modified, 2003 BMW M3 and a 2013 Ford Fiesta ST. Naturally, there's a comparison.
Farah, as he's wont to do, does get into the nitty gritty of what each car is like to drive, and discusses the merits of used and new-car shopping. But as he rightly points out while testing the M3, "So, it is a good car. But like any used car, it really does depend on the individual car."
