This is the cleanest, most original E30 that I have ever seen, much less owned. The car is a 1990 325i five speed, cabrio Alpineweis II on Blonde with one owner before I purchased in January. It has been well maintained in Atlanta with no accidents or rust and with approximately 75,000 miles. I say approximately due to the odometer going south in 2011 with 73210 on the clock. As mentioned, this is an all original car with no accidents and original paint that is still in beautiful condition. The only thing that doesn't work on the car is the odometer (go figure). The gentleman that owned the car spent $6,300 on the interior and new top in 2006. There are no rips, tears, discoloration or abrasions on the interior. The car has the original radio, speakers, and it all still works great, including the antenna. There is also a factory tonneau cover, which I've never seen before on an E30, and car cover. The average AutoCheck score for similar vehicles is 11-29. The score for this car is 50. I've never seen an e30 in that range. All manuals, radio and key code cards, and original flashlight come with the car. After initial dealer service, the car was maintained exclusively at Buckhead imports in Atlanta. The motor purrs, the clutch feels new, and the transmission is silky smooth. I just changed the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, thermostat, and cap and rotor last weekend. There were no problems, I just could not find a record of when the timing belt was last changed which is critical in this car. It comes with the original gold BBS basket weaves wrapped in like new Michelin Pilots. There is not one leak anywhere. The only thing needed to make this car perfect is a rear exhaust section that has some rust.
Recent Maintenance (04/15/13):
-New Continental timing belt kit with timing belt and tensioner (See pictures I took during timing belt change, you can see the pollen on the motor)
- New water pump and thermostat
-New cap and rotor
-Oil and filter change
As I stated before, you would be hard pressed to find a more original, cosmetically and mechanically sound E30 convertible with a manual transmission. It is one of the best examples of the BMW marque on the road.

The Homer to contest 24 Hours of LeMons
Thu, 27 Jun 2013It's finally happened. A 24 Hours of LeMons team has built the definitive interpretation of The Homer from The Simpsons for competition in an upcoming race. As you may recollect, The Homer is the fictional car designed by Homer Simpson for his brother's car company. Designed with a separate compartment for screaming children and other Homer-centric goodies, the animated machine bankrupted its parent company and put Homer's brother out of a job. Now we get to watch it race other crap cans as it tackles Southern California's Buttonwillow Raceway on June 29. Scott Chamberlain, Kris Linquist, Reid Conti, Ben Reilly and Mike Yepes will helm the machine, and Jeff Herman serves as the team's creative director.
The racer is the latest incarnation of a well-abused BMW 3 Series. The team campaigned the same E30 under the "Prickstine" banner as a Chrysler Imperial tribute and "Porcubimmer," the latter being a riff on the ever-popular joke about the difference between porcupines and BMW models. Never gets old. You can check out a video of the finished Homer below, and be sure to like the team on Facebook to see updates from the race. Now, about that Canyonero...
2014 BMW Z4 sDrive35is
Tue, 14 May 2013The BMW Z3/Z4 roadster has never really had a widespread following because it has either been too humble and small a roadster (albeit with some fun and very low-volume M editions) or it has been - in this E89 generation - too casual an image leader with no racier aspirations. The current 480-hp Z4 GTEs don't count, since they are as stock a Z4 as today's Pamela Anderson is the same blonde actress we knew as Heidi on Home Improvement. You know, sort of like those ever-so-slightly modified Toyota Camry coupes competing in NASCAR.
The ultimate highpoint for the BMW Z roadster franchise was at the very start of its life in the mid-90s, in the James Bond film GoldenEye with Pierce Brosnan. The Stinger missiles that Q's team installed behind the Z3's headlights were never fired, and BMW never even offered this self-defense package as an option. Yet another case of the ol' bait and switch.
And in all these subsequent years of Z3s and Z4s strutting their long-hooded stuff, the little sporting Bimmer could really have used a live Stinger missile or two to spice things up. The current Z4 exists, it is pretty dang sexy, and BMW seems content to let it linger there. We just drove the new midlife version of the roadster near BMW headquarters in Munich, and it served to reinforce our feelings.
Europe's BMW 1 Series hatch caught looking fresh faced
Sat, 23 Aug 2014Hey, remember the BMW 1 Series? Yes, German brand's successors to the US-market coupe and convertible have one-upped the old car to wear the 2 Series designation now, but in other markets, our No. 1 crush still lives on, and as evidenced in these spy shots, the entry-level hatch appears to be undergoing a modest facelift.
We've spotted prototypes of the refreshed 1 Series before, with the majority of the car's changes focused around the front fascia. This time around, we're seeing the three-door variant, with wheels seemingly fitting of a Sport or even M Sport trim.
Of course, this One's not for US, as the small BMW isn't slated to come to our market anytime soon. Click through the gallery above to see what we're missing.
