My loss can be your gain.  Sadly, I need to sell this car that I've loved since I bought it in 2002 (I'm the second owner).

I'm selling this, reluctantly, because it does need some work.  I have been driving it every day, including the day I placed this listing.  Mechanically, it needs some brake work (pads, rotors).  Cosmetically, the leather seats have some cracks, a slight rust spot just below the rear trunk lid, it needs a front left fog light, and the BMW emblem on the hood is faded.  The top cloth could use a few repairs (a few stiches loose, some plastic clips have broken leaving the inside by the rear seats a bit loose, and the mechanism could use an adjustment).  I'm also pretty sure the catalytic converter needs to be replaced.  I would do all of this myself, but I don't have the time, what with 4 little kids now.  A handful of weekends worth of work and it would be good for another handful of years.  But it would be a year before I could find 5 weekends to get it done, and we don't have space in our driveway or yard to keep it.

Work done in the last few years include belts (last month); post-cat O2 sensors and rear shocks (last year); water pump, alternator, battery, secondary air pump, rear window (3 or 4 years ago).

This car is a lot of fun to drive.  It's never been smoked in (at least not since I got it in 2002). Clutch still seems fine.  Had the top down on the way to work this morning, still runs and handles well, accelerates and passes on the highway as easily as the day I got it.

Don't let the work it could use scare you off.  This car has a lot of life left in it.  For a 15 year old, 150,000 mile car, it's in good shape.  Never had any trouble starting or running (except when the alternator and battery died a few years ago).

Engine puts out 190 HP, 206 ft-lbs torque @3950 RPM. 22-24 MPG.

Features include leather seats, front driver and passenger heated power seats, 6-CD changer, ABS, Traction Control (can be turned off with a button), Trip computer, Harman-Kardon premium speakers, 16" wheels.

M-fographic breaks down the history of BMW performance machinery

Fri, 18 Oct 2013

Few characters carry the kind of clout among performance enthusiasts as the letter M. For 35 years now, that one letter has adorned over 300,000 BMWs, each tuned to deliver a higher degree of performance than the stock models on which they're based.
The M division has worked up nearly 100 different models over the past third of a century, which can leave even the most expert among Bimmer fanatics bewildered. Fortunately British auto loan service Carfinance247 has commissioned this handy infographic to make sense of it all, and you can check it out below to see what the letter M really stands for.

BMW recalls over 76k 2012-2014 models over brake failure

Sat, 28 Sep 2013

Bimmerfest is reporting that BMW has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of its intention to voluntarily recall more than 75,000 3 Series, 5 Series, X1, X3 and Z4 models due to a possible loss of power brake assist that could result in the vehicles failing to stop. The recall affects 2012-2014 models equipped with either the N20 or N26 engine produced from May 2012 to August 2013. Until recall repairs have been performed, BMW dealers will discontinue selling or delivering any affected vehicles in their inventories.
The problem has been traced to restricted oil supply from the intake camshaft to the brake vacuum pump, which may cause the brake vacuum pump to fail, resulting in a loss of power brake assist. While the hydraulic brakes will still function, the driver must much apply greater pedal pressure and the distance required to stop the vehicle will increase.
BMW has reported three minor accidents with no confirmed injuries. According to Bimmerfest, drivers who encounter a braking problem should "pull the emergency brake and apply as much brake pedal pressure as possible. If your BMW has an electronic parking brake pull up and hold the switch to engage the brake." Drivers should then park in a safe location and contact BMW Roadside Assistance.

2015 BMW X6 keeps it weird

Thu, 02 Oct 2014

Say what you will about the BMW X6 - odd and ugly as it may be, it's actually been sort of successful for the German automaker. BMW has now sold some 250,000 examples of the X6 since its launch, and the company's fastback-crossover-coupe-whatever-thing gets a host of meaningful updates for the 2015 model year while not straying from its original mission.
Aside from its revised styling, most noticeably set apart by its larger, X5-inspired headlamps, the biggest update for the US-spec X6 is the addition of a rear-wheel-drive model, the sDrive35i. This trim joins the all-wheel-drive xDrive35i and xDrive50i, and since you should all be capable of decoding BMW's weird naming structure by now, you know this means the X6 will be offered with a choice of 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder and twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engines. Fuel economy figures have not been released yet, but BMW says the new powertrains are more efficient than before, mated exclusively to an eight-speed automatic transmission regardless of cylinder count.
Look for the updated X6 to hit US showrooms this fall, following its debut this week in Paris. Expect pricing to be revealed closer to the model's on-sale date. Have a look below for all of the details.
