Well taken care of 2000 BMW 328i. 236,000 miles. This is and continues to be the most reliable car I've even owned. I lived in Tennessee for some years and that's the reason the body is in such great shape.
The good:
Nice condition considering the age.
Reliable engine.
Easy to work on (if you're mechanically inclined).
Inspected through December.
(4) nice Hakkapeliitta snows currently on (haven't driven it since Feb)
Burns no oil
Recently changed radiator and coolant hoses
Super reliable - a nice car for the right person!
The quirks:
Needs an O2 sensor (doesn't affect driving)
Small leak in powersteering hose (small as in top it off every month or so)
Small leak between expansion tank and radiator - it's an o-ring (small as in top it off every 2-3 weeks)
Needs crank case vent valve (doesn't affect driving, but slight oil smell when sitting still)
Needs an alignment (drives straight, steering wheel slightly tilted, no tire wear)
Small rust patch just below rear driver tail light
Airbag light is on (doesn't affect driving)
Need a rear passenger speed sensor (doesn't affect car other than limited slip won't work without it)

BMW performance engineering boss wants an M7
Mon, 16 Dec 2013Audi has the S8, Mercedes has the S63 AMG and Jaguar has the XJR, but BMW has always held that an M7 wasn't justified, leaving its associated Alpina line to tackle that market with the B7 (pictured). The chief engineer at the M division, however, feels otherwise.
Speaking to Autocar, the BMW M development chief Albert Biermann indicated that he would like to see the M division do a performance version of the 7 Series to compete with the above-mentioned models, but that there are no current plans in place to do so. Neither did he specify what kind of engine it would have, or if it would be badged, for that matter, as an M7 or an M Performance model.
The latter is the approach which the M division is reportedly taking with performance versions of BMW crossovers beyond the X5 M and X6 M, such as the X3 and upcoming X4. The division is also said to be developing a performance-tuned xDrive system to compete with AMG's new all-wheel-drive models, as well as a potential M3 GT to join the new M3 sedan and M4 coupe with a slantback bodystyle.

This might look like an ordinary BMW X1, but take a closer glance - those stickers on the side read "hybrid test vehicle," and around back, there doesn't appear to be a tailpipe at all. But does this mean that BMW is working on a straight-up all-electric version of its smallest crossover? Let's hypothesize for a moment.
Just because we can't see a tailpipe in these photographs doesn't mean there isn't one somewhere under there. And while those hybrid stickers are an indication that there's some sort of electrification going on underhood, it could just be for a forthcoming gasoline-electric version of the X1. Lexus recently confirmed it would be bringing a small hybrid CUV to market that will compete in the X1's space, so perhaps BMW is working on another powertrain option to offer when its littlest crossover gets refreshed.
Also consider that Toyota collaborated with Tesla to bring back the RAV4 EV, which would sort of compete with the X1, so it also stands to reason that perhaps this is an early test mule for a larger all-electric vehicle in the upcoming, eco-minded BMW i range. Our spies seem pretty confident that the prototype seen here is indeed an all-out EV, but we just can't say with certainty without more evidence.

BMW has taken the wraps off its replacement for the 1 Series, the 2 Series, ahead of an official debut at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in January. Pricing for the new coupe starts at $32,100 for the 228i and $43,100 for the M235i that we showed you earlier today - not including $925 for destination. And before you break out the torches and pitchforks, know that those numbers compare favorably with the current 128i Coupe and 135is Coupe, which start at $31,500 and $43,550, respectively.
