1996 BMW 328iC Cabrio Convertible. Alpine white exterior with Sand Leather interior. Low Miles. Car not used October - March, travelling less than 4,000 miles per year. Extremely rare hard top option with storage rack and cover. New convertible soft top less than 2K miles ago. New Yokohama premium tires with less than 250 miles. All original books, documents and window sticker. Options include premium package, Heated Seats and Mirrors, Hardtop, All Season Traction (ASC+T), Automatic Transmission.
Outstanding original condition with nothing more than a few light scratches and very minor shopping cart type dings with no broken paint and excellent interior with leather seat wear but less than you would expect.
Serviced always with BMW parts. Very clean underneath, all suspension components in good shape. Engine runs great. Car runs straight. Power convertible top sometimes needs a nudge. When top is down, sometimes a noise comes from the boot, usually going over a bump, sometimes never a sound. Once there was an error code for a locking mechanism in the boot, but it does not show now.
The very rare hardtop has defroster bars in the glass, interior lights, grab handles and a liner. I never tried the defroster, but I did try to turn on the interior lights and either couldn't figure it out or the connection wasn't right or such. The top does look like new, but it may need a BMW guy to service it or explain how it works. Also get the occasional noise from the boot with the hard top on, the convertible top is retracted when the hardtop is on. There is a small interior trim piece missing that covers an opening near the boot. That piece is available online.
Blaupunkt radio stopped working. New radio professionally installed, sounds great, hard to see the station numbers with the top down. Original radio included if desired.
My kids broke the seat back release so the passenger seat does not tilt forward to let people into the back. In fact, that is why I am selling the car, my kids always want to ride in it, but are always wearing cleats, or having big bags of gear and it is not a good car for a lot of cargo or for someone worried about kids not respecting it.
I am the third owner. The first was an older lady realtor who sold it in 2010 to a family she also sold a house to. That mom of that family drove it very little and sold it to me before this summer. It is insured and has a clear Illinois title in my name.
That's all I can think of, please take a close look at the photos, they are a key part of the description. I worked hard to find this car for myself. It is a cream puff.
The hardtop was a $2,300 option in 1996. The 3 year old soft top was $2,800. The yokohama tires were $500. Buy it now, or make me a fair offer to consider. Mazda CX-5 named Japan's Car of The Year, Subaru BR-Z wins "Special Award"
Mon, 03 Dec 2012The Mazda CX-5 stamped its Kodo design and SkyActiv technology authority all over the Japan Car of the Year awards, taking the top prize ahead of the Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT 86. It is Mazda's second victory in the last ten years, the 2005 MX-5 claiming the same trophy, and the fourth time the Hiroshima company has won.
The award is decided by 60 local "automotive experts and journalists," and open to any passenger car released in Japan from November 1, 2011 to October 31, 2012 that has sold more than 500 units. Each judge gets 25 votes, his or her top vote getting 10 points, the rest of the points being spread among the judge's choice for the next best four cars.
The second-place getters were the Toyobaru twins with 318 votes, the surprise being they didn't beat or get any closer to the crossover. The Subaru BRZ did claw some mojo back, earning the Special Award given to cars that have made "an exceptional impact." The BMW 3 Series was third overall and won the Import Car of the Year award with plenty of room between it and the second place Range Rover Evoque.

Models like the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class may be tailor-made to introduce buyers to the premium segment, but a new study finds that they don't garner the highest rates of non-luxury customer conquests. It turns out that a Volvo leads among folks moving up to a premium brand, and it isn't even one that's made anymore, at that.
A recent study by Polk and IHS Automotive looked at what models had the highest rates of buyers upgrading from a non-luxury segment. The information comes from its new vehicle registration data through April 2014. All ten top models boasted conquest rates of over 50 percent, but the Volvo C70 led the field with 68.01 percent of its customers coming from non-premium brands.
The Homer to contest 24 Hours of LeMons
Thu, 27 Jun 2013It's finally happened. A 24 Hours of LeMons team has built the definitive interpretation of The Homer from The Simpsons for competition in an upcoming race. As you may recollect, The Homer is the fictional car designed by Homer Simpson for his brother's car company. Designed with a separate compartment for screaming children and other Homer-centric goodies, the animated machine bankrupted its parent company and put Homer's brother out of a job. Now we get to watch it race other crap cans as it tackles Southern California's Buttonwillow Raceway on June 29. Scott Chamberlain, Kris Linquist, Reid Conti, Ben Reilly and Mike Yepes will helm the machine, and Jeff Herman serves as the team's creative director.
The racer is the latest incarnation of a well-abused BMW 3 Series. The team campaigned the same E30 under the "Prickstine" banner as a Chrysler Imperial tribute and "Porcubimmer," the latter being a riff on the ever-popular joke about the difference between porcupines and BMW models.
