1984 Bmw 633csi Base Coupe 2-door 3.2l on 2040-cars
Long Beach, California, United States
Beautiful California one owner car, bought May 1984 from Century BMW, Alhambra, CA. Bronzit paint w/black leather that's in very good condition. 144,458 miles, driven by a car guy who still loves this car. Always garaged, and well cared for. All maintenance records since new...no expense spared in maintenance and care of vehicle. Never involved in any traffic accidents. After 29 years of owning this great car, I'm selling because it sits in my garage under a car cover, not being used except for weekend errands, and occasional Sunday drives. Tires are excellent, with less than 5,000 miles on them. This is a smoke free vehicle that's in exceptional original condition. It's a blast to drive, and as fun now as it was in 1984. The car runs great with good power, and the transmission shifts as new. Engine compartment is beautiful, as is the trunk and tool kit. I cared for this car as if it were one of my children. A longtime friend once joked that when he died, and if ever reincarnated he'd want to come back as one of my automobiles, as he would never ever get better care! Recently spent $3450.00 on brakes, tune up, oil/filter change, complete A/C service to convert to 134R, front shocks, control arm bushings, stops & mounts, front alignment, speedo sensor, and instrument SI board. I doubt one could find a better example of a '84 633 one owner CA car anywhere. Car is available for inspection in California. My email is ross@southcoastshingle.com.
Shipping is buyers responsibility, but ramp access available for loading vehicle. Payment terms are cash, or bank wire transfer. Price is $11,500. |

A look back on BMW, South Carolina and Southern manufacturing
Sat, 29 Dec 2012It has been 20 years since BMW broke ground on its Spartanburg, SC manufacturing facility, and while the automaker doesn't have any plans to mark the moment, economists and industry analysts have taken a closer look at the facility's impact on South Carolina, the South and global manufacturing. As of November, the Spartanburg plant's 7,000 employees cranked out 25,000 vehicles per month, and BMW has poured some $6 billion into the state since the plant opened in 1993. While that figure nearly matches the state's proposed budget for next year, some say there have been drawbacks.
To begin with, South Carolina provided BMW with hundreds of millions of dollars worth of public money and tax breaks with little public oversight, setting a precedent that would repeat itself with other corporations. The Detroit News reports that a Pew Center evaluation found 26 states didn't have a sufficient system for evaluating tax incentive performance. But BMW opened the door for a Southern manufacturing renaissance, with automakers from Mercedes-Benz to Hyundai and Volkswagen opening plants in the Deep South.
While states have raced to offer ever sweeter tax and cash incentives for big manufacturers, officials say BMW is proof the system can pay dividends. You can read the full piece here.
Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo torquing its way toward Frankfurt
Mon, 09 Sep 2013Few tuners benefit from the kind of factory support that Alpina does, giving the pseudo-aftermarket firm nearly as much official status as BMW's own M division. And this is its latest product.
Set to debut, as expected, at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week is the new Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo, which you can consider, for all intents and purposes, the diesel M3 that BMW never built. While the outgoing D3 (which was Alpina's best-selling model) used a four-cylinder engine, Autocar reports that the new model packs a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo inline-six diesel to drive a respectable 345 horsepower but a mammoth 516 pound-feet of torque to either the rear wheels or all four through the optional availability of xDrive. (European buyers will also be able to choose between sedan and wagon bodystyles.)
The engine is the same as you'd find in the XD3 and D5 (Alpina's diesel performance versions of the X3 and 5 Series, respectively), but in the lighter 3 Series form can propel the D3 Bi-Turbo up to 62 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds and on to an Autobahn-crunching top speed of 173 mph. And as per Alpina tradition, visual cues are minimal, with a subtly optimized aero kit and 19- or available 20-inch alloy wheels. Unfortunately, the 7 Series-based B7 is the only Alpina we get on this side of the Atlantic, but an oil-drenched performance enthusiast can dream.
