2007 BMW 750Li

At the top of the luxury sedan food chain you'll find cars like the 2007 BMW 7 Series which represent the peak of engineering, elegance and hospitality available in a five-passenger automobile. The 7 Series is one of the most technologically advanced sedans in its class which is why it is considered to be The Ultimate Driving Experience. Introduced in 1977 the 7 series is BMW's flagship vehicle and is known for introducing technologies and exterior design themes before they trickle down to smaller sedans in their lineup. The fourth-generation 7 Series (E65) was produced from 2001 to 2008. The BMW 750i/Li (2006-2008) models featured a powerful 4.8L V8 engine rated at 360hp. For 2007 BMW 7 Series models came standard with heated front seats, power-folding exterior mirrors, adaptive bi-HID headlights, a moon roof, leather upholstery and 20-way power front seats. Front-seat heaters, a professional navigation system with voice control, a 10-speaker CD sound system with MP3 player input jack, dual-zone climate control, one-touch windows and Bluetooth connectivity are also standard. This particular example is Black Sapphire Metallic in color with an Ebony interior. Options on this beauty include the 20” sport package rims, Tire Pressure Control (TPC) and the Dark Ash wood trim. We also have a set of 18” rims with winter tires that have less than 5,000 miles of usage on them that will be included in the asking price. The previous owner purchased this car as a Certified Pre-Owned car in early 2010 with just over 32,000 miles and has had it serviced regularly since. It currently has just less than 100,000 miles and everything is working properly as would be expected. This is an opportunity for you to own an $80,000 car for a quarter of what it sold new for so if you like what you see don’t wait until is gone to call!

BMW unleashes 160-hp S 1000 R streetfighter motorcycle

Wed, 06 Nov 2013

BMW Motorrad released the S 1000 RR superbike in 2010, but for those who'd like to take it down a (small) notch, the German motorcycle maker introduced the 2014 S 1000 R, a slightly less-ballsy version of the range-topping superbike, at EICMA on Tuesday.
In its transformation from 193-horsepower superbike to 160-hp sportbike, BMW detuned the 999cc inline four-cylinder engine a bit by lowering the redline from 13,000 RPM to 11,000 RPM, where peak power is made. Torque is rated at "approximately" 83 pound-feet (the RR makes 82.5 lb-ft), but more importantly, engineers tweaked the torque delivery in the R's favor by redesigning the cylinder-head ducts, modifying the camshaft profiles and reprogramming the engine management system. The result is seven lb-ft more torque than the RR up to 7,500 RPM. The R's torque peak occurs at 9,250 RPM.
The bike comes standard with ASC (automatic stability control) and "Race" ABS. Riders can choose between two modes, "Road" and "Rain," which adjust ABS and ASC settings to suit dry or wet roads. DTC (dynamic traction control) is available as an option, and with two modes, "Dynamic" and "Dynamic Pro," the system optimizes traction and helps riders achieve maximum acceleration.

BMW sets Guinness record for longest drift with new M5 [w/video]

Wed, 15 May 2013

In September of 2011, Chinese drifter Wang Qi broke the Guinness record for the world's longest sustained drift, doing 13 laps inside the Olympic Center Stadium in Tianlin, China for 5,802.3 meters. That was broken in February of this year by Abdo Feghali in Abu Dhabi drifting a new Chevrolet Camaro around a skidpad for 11,180 meters - almost seven miles. In March, BMW decided it wanted the record "back in the US," and set up a course at its BMW Performance Driving School near Greenville, South Carolina to get the job done. On May, 11 it was Mission Accomplished when Performance Center driver Johan Schwartz drifted an M5 around a skidpad continuously for 51.3 miles.
Despite that accomplishment, we're pretty sure that professional drifter Vaughn Gittin, Jr. isn't impressed. The way Guinness defines "drifting" can also describe a donut, which is effectively the kind of drifting that's been done for these last three records. BMW went even further by watering down the surface of the track, reducing the skill required and the need to change tires during the effort. On the other hand, you can't drift a car for long in a straight line, but perhaps there should be some clarification or classifications added to the milestones.
There's a short video below taken during the record-breaking run, and a press release from the company that did it.

BMW X4 reclaims dash of utility with Clemson student project [w/videos]

Wed, 06 Aug 2014

BMW seems willing to exploit every automotive niche it can find with creations like the four-door, 'crossover coupe' X4 and X6. Of course, these designs come with a compromise. That svelte fastback means that they just can't haul as much cargo as a more traditional, boxier hatchback. Fortunately, students at Clemson University's International Center for Automotive Research might have a novel solution: the engineering graduate program has turned the crossover into a unique pickup.
Dubbed Deep Orange 4 concept, this functional prototype has an enclosed cargo area with a sliding glass panel that opens up to expose a pickup bed if more room is needed. Think of it as the GMC Envoy XUV of German crossovers. This isn't just an X4 with its roof hacked off, though. The students actually started with an X3 and grafted on this top later in addition to the two barn doors for access to the bed.
To make this project even more impressive, this pickup-crossover could conceivably be produced. The graduate students conducted an in-plant analysis of BMW's manufacturing abilities and went back to the university to create a plan for a low-volume vehicle that could actually be built. "The students working on this phase of the project did an excellent job of keeping costs down while finding optimal integration opportunities," said Rich Morris, vice president of assembly at BMW Manufacturing, in the university's release.
