Very Special 1985 BMW 735i

The car has essentially been in one family since new. I bought the car from this family several months ago and have reluctantly decided to part with it as I have too many cars.  It was bought new by a gentleman as a retirement gift to himself in ‘85. He owned it until ‘96, and then handed it down to his son. It has always been garaged and covered. It has never been in an accident. It passed California’s smog test with flying colors, 1 month ago, with a performance chip installed (stock chip included). The registration is current and it the title is in my name. 

It has been conscientiously maintained over its 176k miles. I have the owner’s manual, brochure and 27 years of service receipts. Only OEM maintenance items have been used to ensure factory-correct performance. Only high-quality fluids have been used such as Mobil 1 synthetic for engine, Redline for transmission / differential, ATE Blue/Gold for brakes, and BMW coolant. 

This is a beautiful, carefully built car with great attention to detail that is an unbeatable value for a BMW enthusiast. It is a strong performer that is solid and tight in every way. The build quality of the E23 is amazing. The doors 'ping' when shut and while it is the first 7 series offered by BMW, the car only slightly larger that the current 5 series. The car is quick, nimble and the exhaust note has a deep, but not offensive, rumble. These models are disappearing fast and this very special car goes to someone who can appreciate the car and the positive attention it attracts. It would be very expensive to build a car like this today. Nothing has been smoked or eaten in this car. Pets and children have not been in the car.

Wheels & Tires

• 245/40-17 Sumitomo HTRZ-III tires on 17x8.5 BBS RC wheels. The RCs are discontinued, lightweight wheels that weigh around 17.5 lbs. each. Tires are at about 50%

Brakes: 

• Porterfield R4-S street pads that are no dust, no noise and have high heat capacity producing far better performance than OEM or Metal Masters
• BMP stainless steel brake lines

Exterior: 

• New 'glass-out' high quality paint in 2008 in the original Bronzit-beige; there is only one, VERY SMALL scratch, as pictured. I would comfortably rate the paint finish as 9.5
• All body panels are straight and true, doors slam with a confident 'ping'.
• There is only one minor dimple on the passenger-side front fender, that a good dent guy could remove, it is easily accessible by reaching in wheel well (circled in photo)
• European bumpers and front valence and rear OEM spoiler
• Cibie low beam headlights from Daniel Stern lighting

Interior:

• Cobra Daytona sport seats – fully adjustable with great lateral support; much more comfortable than OEM
• Momo steering wheel – smaller than stock and provides greater steering input with less motion. An immaculate, leather wrapped stock steering wheel is also included in sale
• Rear seat leather in very good condition, including headrests
• OEM Rear Sunshade in excellent condition

Trunk:

• Full factory tool-kit included, complete with RED SCREWDRIVER in trunk-lid
• Factory spare, jack, etc., all present

Items needing attention: 

• Cruise control lever is floppy, but still works
• There is a slight leak in the power steering that has recently come to my attention
• There are several small cracks on the dash
• Under-hood insulation should be replaced (about $50)
• Dash cracks could be addressed, but are very small and do not detract from the general presentation of the car
• There is a small crack on the top of the console, about the size of a quarter, as pictured
