The condition of the exterior, interior and engine can vary depending on the vehicle's history. See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.Seller Notes:"The vehicle has the normal pixel problem with the driver information display. Sometimes it is basically fine, but other times unreadable. The problem is with the electrical connection on the circuit board. Varies with temperature. The main issue with the vehicle is the transmission. I does not shift completely into gear. The transmission functioned as expected the last time it was driven, but the next morning it would not go into gear. It may be an electrical issue, but that is only my opinion."

Other than the issues described in the listing, this vehicle is in good condition. All the power windows, seats, and locks are in working order. The vehicle has Michelin tires with about 5000 miles on them. A new radiator and alternator was installed within the past year. Suspension and handling is what you would expect. The interior is in good condition, both seat heaters are in working order. The interior is in good condition as is the trunk area. This vehicle still ahs the factory first aid kit on board.. The mileage on this vehicle was amassed on the highway. I commuted to work 193 miles per day  and you can really rack the miles with a commute like that. The car is a dream to drive and gets about 27 miles per gallon driving 70-80 miles per hour. It requires about a quart of oil every 3500 miles, but there is no smolke from the exhaust. The exhaust system seems to be in good condition. I don't know what else can be said, find the problem with the transmission or replace it and you will have a real luxury cruiser. There are a few imperfections, chips, etc. in the paint, but I guess that can be expected in a vehicle that is 15 years old and 195000 miles of highway use.

BMW sets Guinness record for longest drift with new M5 [w/video]

Wed, 15 May 2013

In September of 2011, Chinese drifter Wang Qi broke the Guinness record for the world's longest sustained drift, doing 13 laps inside the Olympic Center Stadium in Tianlin, China for 5,802.3 meters. That was broken in February of this year by Abdo Feghali in Abu Dhabi drifting a new Chevrolet Camaro around a skidpad for 11,180 meters - almost seven miles. In March, BMW decided it wanted the record "back in the US," and set up a course at its BMW Performance Driving School near Greenville, South Carolina to get the job done. On May, 11 it was Mission Accomplished when Performance Center driver Johan Schwartz drifted an M5 around a skidpad continuously for 51.3 miles.
Despite that accomplishment, we're pretty sure that professional drifter Vaughn Gittin, Jr. isn't impressed. The way Guinness defines "drifting" can also describe a donut, which is effectively the kind of drifting that's been done for these last three records. BMW went even further by watering down the surface of the track, reducing the skill required and the need to change tires during the effort. On the other hand, you can't drift a car for long in a straight line, but perhaps there should be some clarification or classifications added to the milestones.
There's a short video below taken during the record-breaking run, and a press release from the company that did it.

BMW tests M Lap Timer App with M4 Coupe at Brands Hatch

Fri, 21 Mar 2014

The 2015 BMW M4 looks to include all the necessary ingredients to offer dynamite driving experience. It's an M car after all. But in today's constantly connected world, the experience of hurtling a car around a track isn't always enough.
We want data, and while there are some solid telemetry apps available for smartphones (notably Harry's GPS LapTimer), manufacturers have been a bit slower to develop their own dedicated mobile telemetry trackers for their performance cars. With the new M4, though, BMW is taking the plunge, allowing drivers to track their lap progress through a new app, creatively called the M Lap Timer.
To show off the program, BMW has recruited touring car racer Andy Priaulx to perform a fast lap in an M4 at the UK's Brands Hatch circuit. The accompanying video doesn't do much to show off the app in action. Rather, it give us a stylized look at the metrics as Priaulx hustles BMW's hottest 4 Series coupe around the circuit.

BMW, Ferrari, VW cars use tungsten mined by terrorists

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

Bloomberg Markets is reporting that BMW, Volkswagen and Ferrari have been using tungsten ore sourced from Columbia's FARC rebel terrorists. The extensive story focuses on Columbia's illegal mining trade and calls into question the provenance of the rare ore that is used not only in crankshaft parts production, but is also found in the world's computing and telecommunications industry for use in screens.
The ore is mined by the FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, or Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army), and exported to Pennsylvania, where it is refined. The refined ore is then sent over to Austria, where a company called Plansee turns it into a finished product. Now, it's important to note that we aren't talking about the world's supply of tungsten here. In 2012, Plansee's American refinery purchased 93.2 metric tons of tungsten, valued at $1.8 million. That's peanuts, with the entire Colombian tungsten mining industry producing just one percent of the world's supplies.
That doesn't make indirectly supporting FARC any more acceptable, though. BMW, VW and Ferrari are all committed to not accepting mineral supplies from the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is also in the grips of a guerrilla insurrection funded, in part, by illegal mining. The same commitment would figure to extend to Colombian mining, but as BMW points out, it's difficult for a multi-national manufacturer to know where every item in its supply chain comes from. A company spokesperson says as much, telling Bloomberg, "These few grams out of the billions of tons of raw materials passing through the BMW supply chain are of no practical relevance."
