Beautiful 1998 sought-after, classic and refined looking E38 generation BMW 740iL for sale in the Oceanfront section of Virginia Beach. This is essentially the same car from the first "The Transporter" movie, only this is the L = Long Wheelbase version, AKA "Limousine" as they refer to it in Europe. This car was also featured in the James Bond movie, "Tomorrow Never Dies." Strong, powerful world-famous BMW 4.4L V-8 under the hood. Only full synthetic Castrol Syntec engine oil ever used. Upgraded brand new dealership ordered 18" wheels designed for the E65 generation 7 series. New high performance, all season Bridgestone tires bought in 2011, very low miles, excellent tread remaining. Huge, wide rear tires for a boulevard cruising rear wheel drive powerhouse car with a sporty stance. Stainless Steel racing brake lines, slotted and vented racing disc brakes, OEM pads, K&N air filter, all fluids changed recently. All new suspension done in 2011. Rides like it's floating in air. All work done by Checkered Flag BMW or Atlantic Autowerks. State inspections done by local Shell Station. Electrical work and replacement of Fresh Air Grille, AKA Center Air Vent by Express Auto Electric. New BMW engine replaced by Atlantic Autowerks in 2006. Only 34K miles on the new engine. I have all of the records from the last 10 years meticulously maintained and catalogued in document protectors in a 3 ring binder. Unparalleled rear leg room, enormous trunk space, can easily fit 3 golf bags. The title is clean and in hand. Interior and under hood shots to follow after detailing. Very big, very powerful car, yet lead footed driving still yields impressive 18.5 MPG. Mostly highway miles commuting to NAVSTA Norfolk and back. Recent paint work, dent & ding removal and professional polishing and waxing done in April 2014. New made in Germany battery installed in April 2014. You have to see this beast in person. Happy to arrange a test drive. Selling it due to transfer to FL and then deploying.

BMW and Mini shuffle NA management, McDowell to retire

Wed, 04 Dec 2013

BMW and Mini recently shuffled top personnel in their design departments, and now BMW of North America will reorganize its management to improve customer relations. Peter Miles (pictured), currently the executive vice president of operations, will take a newly created position, vice president of sales channel development and customer relations, while Jim McDowell, vice president of Mini of the Americas, will retire.
Chris Koenders, president of BMW Group Netherlands, will move take Miles' spot as executive vice president of operations. David Duncan, western region vice president, will take McDowell's job as vice president of Mini of the Americas. Finishing off the management switcharoo is Peter Witt, who will move from his current position as Managing Director of BMW Sweden to take Duncan's job as western region vice president.
"We are intensifying our customer-driven focus and these changes will influence the entire organization to continue improving all phases of the customer journey from prospect to purchase and throughout the ownership cycle," says Ludwig Willisch, president and CEO of BMW NA. For more information on the management reorganization, check out the press release below.

BMW M3 and M4 CSL not in the cards

Mon, 27 Jan 2014

We aren't sure whether to file this one under "good news" or "bad news." BMW confirmed to Top Gear that there "are no plans" for lightweight versions of the new M3 and M4, in the same vein as the E46 M3 CSL (despite rumors to the contrary). The reason?
"There wasn't a CSL on the previous generation, and the way we look at it is like this: the CSL was great because it had this real focus on lightweight engineering. But we've already done that with these new cars. We've made them as light as possible - they come in under 1500 kilograms (3,306 pounds), which for a car like this is incredible," said Matt Collins, BMW's product manager for small to medium cars.
Now, as much as we love the idea of a hardcore version of any car, we appreciate BMW's point of view that the newest Ms are already as light and tough as they need to be. Collins elaborated, saying, "Rather than doing a halfway house to begin with and then rolling out a CSL, we thought we'd make the 'real' car as light as we possibly could. So we've no plans whatsoever to make a lighter, harder version just yet."

BMW M2, we're happy to see you

Wed, 03 Sep 2014

I recently spent some time behind the wheel of the BMW M235i and, well, I didn't love it. Sure, it's a great car, but I just didn't truly bond with it the way I have with previous M cars. What I had hoped for was a proper successor to the 1 Series M Coupe I fell in love with in 2011, but what I got instead was just a sporty 2 Series that didn't exactly stir my emotions in the same way.
But now there's this: the honest-to-goodness BMW M2. Previously, spy photographers captured a development-mule M2, but this is the real thing, in its full prototype body. Notice the aggressive front fascia that mimics the M3/M4, the more more robust wheel/tire package, and the M-standard quad exhaust outlets around back. This thing sure does look the business.
Details are slim as of this writing, but rumors suggest power will come from BMW's now-ubiquitous N55 turbocharged 3.0-liter six, with output somewhere in the 360- to 380-horspower range. The seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission seems like a good fit here, too. As does a six-speed manual transmission (here's hoping).
