1992 Bmw 850i Base Coupe 2-door 5.0l on 2040-cars
Clermont, Florida, United States
Up for auction is my 1992 BMW 850i V12, I have owned it for just over a year and only put a few hundred miles on it. Which is the reason I am selling it, I just don't get the opportunity to drive it.
These are great fully optioned tourers. Everything works as it should do, computer, windows, central locking etc. There is no rust, although the car does need a respray.
It drives, shifts and brakes well and straight.
The interior is in exceptional conditional for the year, no tears of cracks in the leather. A couple of places the leather trim is coming away and needs just sticking back. The finish over the wood trim has multiple cracks from the sun, but the dash is good. AC blows ice cold
The car is fitted with a RET Sport Stainless exhaust system which gives a more aggressive sound than the standard system. And the rims are 18" Zenetti 5 twin spoke faux split rim with chrome finish. Although they do not have any curb rash, the chrome not in the best condition. The rears have 275/40/18 and the fronts 245/40/18
This car is also fitted with M Technic Style mirrors
This car just needs a little attention to be a great car. Comes with original Owners Manual, and CD with parts and repair manuals on.
Faults -
Leak on power steering
Paint finish
Drivers mirror does not automatically adjust
Driver seat sticks on right side runner
Good points-
All electrics, lights, computer are functional (except those noted above)
Leather is near perfect
Just discovered the radio code I have doesn't work, so will work on that during the auction to find out what it is, radio was working until I disconnected the batteries recently
Please ask any questions before bidding
Happy Bidding!

BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe blows the doors back on [w/video]
Tue, 04 Mar 2014BMW sure seems to take pleasure in confusing the hell out of us. It used to be pretty simple: if you wanted a compact Bimmer, you had to look no further than the 3 Series. Then it was just a matter of which bodystyle you wanted. But the smaller end of BMW's lineup has gotten more complicated lately. Never mind the 1 Series and 2 Series (in their various iterations) that have slotted in below it - now the 3 Series has been split in two: Want a four-door, get the new 3 Series. Want a two-door, the 4 Series is your address. Right?
Almost. Because now there's a 4 Series Gran Coupe that keeps the two-door's roofline (or some approximation of it) but adds an extra set of doors in the back, thereby bridging the gap between the 3 Series sedan and 4 Series coupe. And it's just made its public debut here at the Geneva Motor Show.
The difference between this and the two-door 4 Series is plain to see: it's got two extra doors. But what's the difference between this and the 3 Series sedan? About two or three grand, to start with - depending on which version (428i Gran Coupe or 435i Gran Coupe) you choose. But it's also sleeker, more muscular and altogether that extra bit sexier. Which is a good trait, as you can see from our gallery of live shots above, to have in your European sports sedan, coupe, or whatever you want to call it.
Can the government mechanically force you to wear your seatbelt? [w/poll]
Fri, 30 Aug 2013
The National Highway Traffic Administration is considering the use of ignition interlocks in vehicles that would require the seatbelts of occupied seats to be fastened in order to drive the car, Automotive News reports, four decades after Congress moved to prevent manufacturers from installing them in cars sold in the US market. Following a transportation bill passed last year that lift some of the restrictions on seatbelt interlocks, automakers such as BMW are considering the benefits of using them in future cars. Now, before you go crying about your lost freedom, keep reading.
BMW said in an October 2012 petition that the use of seatbelt interlocks would allow the company to make lighter and more spacious vehicles, if the devices could be used in lieu of unbelted crash tests. The crash test has required the addition of bulky safety features, such as knee bolsters, that aren't as necessary when occupants are buckled up, especially when considering the dizzyng list of safety features that come standard on today's cars. Europe, which has a higher rate of seatbelt use than in the US, doesn't perform unbelted crash tests on cars sold there.
2015 BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe
Thu, 22 May 2014Alpina has been lovingly modifying BMWs for half a century, but as we learned during a tour of the company's HQ in Buchloe, Germany, Alpina has been in the wine distribution business for nearly as long. The company has an estimated million bottles on reserve in two warehouses and a beautiful wine cellar/tasting room on property in western Bavaria, just yards from where its 1,500 hand-crafted automobiles per year are produced.
What does that have to do with the new B6 Gran Coupe? Well, it may help make sense of the overall character of Alpina's automobiles, especially vis-à-vis the similarly priced, similarly powerful M Cars that BMW sells in far greater numbers. Alpinas are built by wine connoisseurs for wine connoisseurs, or wine connoisseur types; they are not rip-snortin' racecars for the road - that's M's domain. Alpinas are esoteric, rich in character and nuanced. But make no mistake: they are very, very fast.
Our brief first drive of the B6 Gran Coupe - the only 6 Series-based Alpina we'll get in the US for 2015 - took place on German autobahns and Austrian alpine roads, where the car is more at home than anywhere in the world, both literally and figuratively. With 540 horsepower and 540 pound-feet of torque on tap from its twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 and xDrive all-wheel drive, the B6 is said to be able to hit 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds on its way to a top speed of 198 mph, a massive 43 mph faster than the M6, which is electronically limited to 155 mph. Yet even at insane speeds - we saw an indicated 190 mph on one particularly lonely stretch of Autobahn - the B6 feels more luxurious than sporty, taking the countenance of a low-slung Bentley Continental GT or an Aston Martin Rapide S, not a knife-edged supercar. It doesn't feel scintillating like a Porsche 911 GT2; rather it feels rock steady, like the 4,780-pound luxury sedan it is.
