This unique RDSport R50 super-sedan is a completely transformed 2000 BMW E39 (M62TUB44), delivering performance that will leave most of todays best performing sport sedans in your rear view mirror, with the classic style of BMWs ageless 5 series, enhanced with RDSport’s classy body trim.

The R50 “stroker” motor rebuild with RDsport headers and flow-through exhaust, combined with the Jim Blanton performance gearing, provides more low end torque off the line than cars with 20% more horsepower. The torque off the line, with Michelin PS2s gripping, pastes you and your passengers to their seats.

411+ HP @ 5800 RPM
379+ ft lb. TQ @ 4350 RPM

Recent dynojet and Maha dyno runs show power is stout and intact, with little effect from engine wear due to attention to care and feeding.

Zero to 60 miles per hour in 4.3 to 4.6 seconds ( GTechPro recorded )

The R50 is in excellent condition, having recently replaced most of the major components that might wear down at her age. 126K miles, mostly freeway, garaged. Used as daily driver, but would make a great track car.

E39 Stock features: Titanium silver metallic exterior with gray leather interior, heated front seats, park distance control, premium sound with DSP, 6 speed manual transmission.

Finalists for 2014 Green Car of the Year announced

Thu, 17 Oct 2013

The list of finalists for the 2014 Green Car of the Year has been announced, and in a genuinely bizarre twist, there's only one hybrid and no electric vehicles among the five contestants, despite the arrival of cars like the BMW i3 and Tesla Model S. Taking the place of the EVs are a pair of diesels, repping a technology that last won a Green Car of the Year award in 2009, when the Audi A3 TDI took the title. No diesel was in the running for last year's award.
Naturally, both of the diesel finalists are fielded by the Germans - with BMW's 328d and Audi's A6 TDI getting the nod. In the case of the 3 Series, BMW installed a 2.0-liter, turbodiesel, capable of delivering 180 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, while returning 45 miles per gallon on the highway. Audi and its larger, 3.0-liter, V6 turbodiesel produce quite a bit more grunt, with 240 hp and 428 lb-ft of grunt, but net a very impressive 38 mpg on the highway in the A6.
Finalists for this year's awards include two diesels, three gas-powered cars and a plug-in hybrid.

Consumer Reports' first motorcycle reliability report finds Japanese brands ahead

Sat, 22 Feb 2014

Consumer Reports has released its first ever study of motorcycle reliability, and students of its ratings on cars might notice a suspicious similarity - Japanese brands require fewer repairs than the leading American or German brands.
The study analyzed the reliability of 4,680 bikes owned by CR subscribers and found that Yamaha had the best ratings, with just one in ten bikes built between 2009 and 2012 requiring a repair over a four-year period. The makers of the R1 and R6 sport bikes were closely followed by Kawasaki and Honda, while one out of every four of the rumbling bikes from Harley-Davidson experienced an issue. BMW had the worst rating of the brands represented, with one in three bikes having problems.
According to CR, neither Suzuki nor Triumph owners provided enough information for a reliable rating. Based on the responses received, though, Suzuki would have finished with the other Japanese brands and Triumph, being English, would have been one of the less reliable makes.

Ward's reveals annual 10 Best Engines list for 2013

Thu, 13 Dec 2012

Ward's Auto has released its annual 10 Best Engines award winners. The 2013 list covers the full width and breadth of the internal combustion spectrum, from a spate of efficient four-cylinders to the most powerful production V8 on the planet. As always, the entries must be available in a production vehicle in the first quarter of 2013 with an MSRP of less than $55,000. The supercharged 3.0-liter V6 from the Audi S5 held on for the fourth consecutive year, and BMW earned two spots on the list with its turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder and turbo 3.0-liter inline-six.
Ford pulled in two awards for its 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder and and the supercharged 5.8-liter V8 from the Shelby GT500. Honda matched BMW and Ford with two wins of its own. Wards awarded the 2.4-liter four-cylinder from the Honda Accord Sport as well as the 3.5-liter V6 from the Honda Accord. Chrysler, General Motors and Subaru each garnered a spot on the list as well for the 3.6-liter V6 in the Ram 1500, the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the Cadillac ATS and the 2.0-liter four-cylinder the Subaru BRZ, respectively.
