For sale I have an Arctic Silver 1998 BMW Z3 Roadster Convertible with a 5 speed manual transmission. Car comes with a clean Title which I have in hand.  There are multiple images at the bottom of this post which you can click on to see the high resolution version.  I also have a PDF copy of the Auto Check report available which I can email you upon request.  The car has the reliable BMW M52 2.8L inline engine which was also available in both the 3 and 5 series BMW during that time.  The car is in very good shape for the age and mileage.  I bought in from a fellow in GA last fall with the intent of keeping it for the wife so that we have a matching pair to go with my 99 ///M.  Because she prefers her SUV, I am listing it up for sale.  This car has not seen snow and has been garage stored while in my possession.  Since this is a southern car before I brought it up here last fall, this car is rust free and I would bet it has never seen snow.  I urge you to look at the multiple images in the attached link and see for yourself.  http://z367.e30tech2.com/?p=383

The car features a tan interior.  The leather sport seats are heated and are very comfortable with no tears at the bolsters.  There is some scuffing on the driver’s side vertical bolster, but no tear.  When these cars came out, sport seats were an upgrade option over the standard flat comfort seats.  The car also has a factory 6 disc CD Changer, complete factory toolkit, and a spare tire.  There are no interior rattles and all the instruments, bulbs work as designed.  There is no airbag light, no traction control light that does not want to turn off.  Everything works.

Under the hood the car looks immaculate.  I bought the car with a blown head gasket and ended up replacing the entire engine with another one that has less than 40,000 miles.  I have an Autocheck that can prove that which I can also email to you.  Basically you are getting a car with 156,000 miles on a rust free body and under 40,000 miles on the engine.  The new engine runs quiet, smooth and idles steady.  You can hear it in the attached You Tube video at the link below.

Because this was going to be a car for my wife, I addressed all the common problems that occur with these cars at this age.  I suggest you look for these problems in the other Z3’s you will be looking at.  Both seats had the seat bushings replaced.  You can tell they are bad when you can rock the seat forward and back freely about an inch with the car parked.  I replaced the side window sliders on both side windows.  You can tell they are worn out when the windows go up/down slowly.  Don’t let anyone tell you that you just need to grease the tracks; if it really was that easy, they should have done it themselves prior to listing the car for sale.  Both seats have brand new seat belt guides installed.  These are often broken and you have to be a contortionist to find the seatbelt once you get in the car when these are broken.  The glove box sag has been repaired.  Notice how flush the glove box in my car closes and how it droops in some of the other cars.  I have also addressed the rubber seals that seal the side windows.  As these cars get older, the seals shrink and it is very common for them to leak.  Driver’s side at the top where the ragtop meets the windshield pillar is the most common spot.  Do you want to be caught driving around with a wet left leg every time it rains?  I have also resealed the third brake light seal.  These sometimes leak and water gets into the trunk where the battery is located.  The trunk spot welds are also in excellent shape indicating that this car has not been abused and led a mild life.  On the hard driven cars, these welds will show signs of separation.

As you can probably tell from reading my ad, I am very passionate about the Z3.  I myself own a 1999 ///M Roadster in the same color.  I welcome you to come and check out the car I am selling in person.  Even if you do not buy it, I will be glad to show you what to look for when buying this particular car so you do not get stuck with someone’s lemon because believe me that they are out there.

Cafe racer motorbikes storm Japan

Fri, 22 Nov 2013

Japan may be best known, at least among motorcycle enthusiasts, for its sport bikes. But as we found at the Tokyo Motor Show this year, Japanese motorcycle manufacturers are capable of producing all kinds of motorbikes. And to our delight, that includes cafe racers.
Along with the myriad electric bikes, dirt bikes, crotch rockets and scooters, the halls of Tokyo's Big Site convention center this year were full of the retro-infused rides we love. Chief among them was the Bolt (shown above) which Yamaha exhibited alongside their various electric two-wheelers, sporting a delicious metallic blue paintjob, inverted handlebars and hanging mirrors, machined metal bits, blacked-out trim and saddle brown leatherwork.
Honda was also on hand with a new EX version of its '70s-style CB1100 retro roadster in sinister and low-key matte black. And this was our first chance to check out BMW Motorrad's new birthday present to its 90-year-old self, the R NineT, a model recently unveiled at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan. But one of the most amusing retro rides we came across was the Honda Monkey Limited, a mini bike that makes the new 125cc Grom (which was displayed alongside it) look positively gigantic.

M-thusiast pops the question at BMW Welt

Tue, 02 Sep 2014

We've seen all manner of marriage proposals over the years, but our favorites, of course, revolve around cars. One guy proposed to his girlfriend at a traffic stop, another during an autocross event, while yet another got dozens of Mazda MX-5 owners together to spell "Marry Me?" in Miatas. This latest proposal, however, put the M in Marriage as only a BMW enthusiast could.
While visiting BMW Welt in Munich, Bachir from Lebanon rolled out in a new blue M3 and got down on one knee in front of the gathered crowds to pop the question to Layal, his girlfriend of one year.
We'll let you watch the clip for yourself to see how it went, but suffice it to say that she was delighted. The couple plan to drive to the church in a procession of M cars for what promises to be a high-octane ceremony in their home country.

BMW invests in carbon fiber for use beyond i and M models

Tue, 13 May 2014

The immense amount of resources BMW has poured into its i brand program hasn't stopped, and recent developments indicate it's likely to pay off for BMW and BMW buyers outside the i brand. The i8 has already sold out its first year run, the i3 racked up 10,000 orders before it even went on sale and is already the subject of public discussion about being stretched into an i5, and a new investment in carbon fiber production has the automaker talking about CFRP use in non-i and non-M models.
BMW and SGL Group got together to form SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers (ACF), and the joint venture produces all of the CFRP for the i3 and i8 on two production lines at its plant in Moses Lake, Washington. After already investing $100 million to increase capacity, BMW has announced that another $200 million will add four more production lines, tripling production from 3,000 tons per year to 9,000 tons. When the expansion is complete in 2015, BMW says the Moses Lake facility will be the world's largest carbon fiber plant.
That's a lot of weave and the long view is that it will find its way into core models, with BMW exec Dr. Klaus Draeger saying, "As part of an intelligent mix of materials, we will apply carbon also beyond our BMW i and BMW M models in the future," and be able to do so "at competitive costs and in large quantities."
