2000 Bmw Z3 Roadster 2.3 Gray Convertible - Bond Car!!!! on 2040-cars
Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, United States
Up for sale, in time for spring and summer, is my baby James Bond convertible - classic roadster! This car has been upgraded by me in many ways, which makes it absolutely head and heels above other Z3 models you can find. The biggest and baddest upgrade is the sound. I installed Focal speakers, an 8.5 inch sub in between the seats, and a JL Audio amp in the trunk. Now you can listen to music LOUD and CLEAR while driving with the top down at 80mph on the highway! Impossible to hear music without distortion at 45 mph with the stock system.
The car is a manual transmission with a 2.5L 6 cylinder engine. Trunk space for a bag of golf clubs.....if you put your driver in the passenger seat. Runs like a beast, handles like a ballerina - simply a FUN driving machine. Especially on beach highways. Color is dark gray. I had a new clutch installed a year ago but otherwise everything is fine. A few months ago my friend drove the car and hit a parking bump which caused some slight damage to the front bumper (see pic). This is something to watch out for as it is easy to misinterpret how close to drive up to those when parking. I decided to sell as is and let the buyer fix it, however it is quite fine to drive as is. New bumpers can be found on ebay for $250, and paint shops that can match are everywhere. Other upgrades include: halo xenon headlights, mesh front grills, racing pedals, a cup holder/container/armrest, daytime running lights module, door panel arm rests, some extra chrome on the door handles, side view mirrors, and door pins, aluminum paint on the side grills, and a small carbon fiber radio antenna. I also replaced the plastic back window once. Finally, I also rewired the electronics for the powered convertible top to be conveniently on the panel close to the radio! No more contorted awkward arm movement to reach for the old button location behind the seat. Contact me with any questions! -Jeff |

Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo torquing its way toward Frankfurt
Mon, 09 Sep 2013Few tuners benefit from the kind of factory support that Alpina does, giving the pseudo-aftermarket firm nearly as much official status as BMW's own M division. And this is its latest product.
Set to debut, as expected, at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week is the new Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo, which you can consider, for all intents and purposes, the diesel M3 that BMW never built. While the outgoing D3 (which was Alpina's best-selling model) used a four-cylinder engine, Autocar reports that the new model packs a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo inline-six diesel to drive a respectable 345 horsepower but a mammoth 516 pound-feet of torque to either the rear wheels or all four through the optional availability of xDrive. (European buyers will also be able to choose between sedan and wagon bodystyles.)
The engine is the same as you'd find in the XD3 and D5 (Alpina's diesel performance versions of the X3 and 5 Series, respectively), but in the lighter 3 Series form can propel the D3 Bi-Turbo up to 62 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds and on to an Autobahn-crunching top speed of 173 mph. And as per Alpina tradition, visual cues are minimal, with a subtly optimized aero kit and 19- or available 20-inch alloy wheels. Unfortunately, the 7 Series-based B7 is the only Alpina we get on this side of the Atlantic, but an oil-drenched performance enthusiast can dream.
BMW 1 Series sedan prepares to fight Mercedes CLA, Audi A3
Thu, 04 Sep 2014The entry-level premium sedan segment is pretty hot right now, with the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class doing well for their respective automakers here in the US. Of course, BMW has its 2 Series, but that's currently only available as a coupe, with a convertible bodystyle forthcoming. That all looks to change, however, as our spies recently caught BMW testing a four-door 1 Series sedan that seems to have the A3 and CLA clear in its sight.
BMW's entry-level four-door is expected to ride on the same front-wheel-drive UKL platform that we recently spied in Mini Countryman form. We're pretty sure this thing will launch under the 1 Series line (odds for sedans and wagons, evens for coupes and convertibles), but it's anyone's guess with BMW - after all, the five-door, front-drive Active Tourer wears a 2 Series nameplate.
Look for the 1 Series sedan to launch sometime in 2016 as a 2017 model. Better late than never in the entry-lux segment, we suppose.
BMW i8's three-cylinder sounds like it's shaping up quite nicely
Tue, 25 Mar 2014We've run across some rather interesting news... or perhaps we should say interesting sounds. The folks from Bimmerpost have scrounged up a short video showing a preproduction BMW i8 running through a few gears in Sport mode at a quick pace, and if you were concerned that the somewhat eco-friendly nature of the upcoming German sports car would neuter its ability to stir the aural senses, fret not.
Judging by the lovely noise coming from the engine compartment of the i8 in the video, BMW's expertise in tuning high-strung, small-bore engines - remember, BMW Motorrad has quite the penchant for well-conceived motorcycle engines - has come through loud and clear. Now, it's worth mentioning that BMW's controversial Active Sound technology will be included with the i8, so the production car may not sound exactly like this version, which is running with the tech disabled. Owners won't have the ability to disable Active Sound on production i8s.
In related news, Bimmerpost reports that BMW will equip the i8 with an external Active Sound Design system to go along with its Pedestrian Protection System. That means those on the outside will likely hear piped engine recordings from the rear and a sort of "howl" from the front in order to warn pedestrians that the otherwise quiet (when running on electricity, that is) car is approaching. It will also feature technology that can stop the car before contacting a pedestrian.
