It is breaking my heart writing up this ad, but I have to liquidate some of the collection to fund a land speed pursuit.  I am offering for sale my 1953 Buick Skylark.  This Skylark is a very original solid driver and a beauty.   It does have some imperfections but I call it character.  The exterior paint has great patina with some eggshell cracking, dings and scratches in the over 60 year old paint.  I have been told by a few different Concours D'Elegance judges the interior was not original but the exterior paint is.  Its nice to get the original paint bonus points at the high-end car shows.  The Skylark has earned several blue ribbons.  The leather seats are in overall good condition but there are a few seam splits in the seat bottom.  The gauges work.  The drive train is solid and original.  There are a few gasket leaks.  The tires have less that 100 miles on them, they are Diamondback Classic wide whitewalls.  The hydraulic top, seats and windows all worked before draining the system.  The body is straight and rust free, spent most of its life in Nevada.  The Skylark comes with a ton of original memorabilia and even the original owners manual.  Again very original and solid blue chip investment grade 53 Skylark.  I need at least 50K cash and will barter on the balance.  I would have a especial interest in a C2 vette, 308, 328, 355, Knuckle or Panhead, jet engines, indian 4 or ???

The 1953 Buick Skylark was built to commemorate Buick's 50th Golden Anniversary. Buick was GM's founding brand, so this was a big moment in their history. The
53 Skylark is virtually a production handmade custom car. It was based on the Roadmaster line, however the fenders, doors, quarter panels, window frames, seats were all sectioned and/or modified by hand to obtain that perfect look. They went all out, and spared no expense. Designer, Harley Earl, created the perfect combination of style and performance. A truly elegant piece of rolling art. They did not stop with just the design. As they billed this 4315lb vehicle as a sports car, and it was just that. The 1953 Buick Skylark was the perfect fusion of a luxury and sports car at the time. Every 53 Skylark came fully optioned from the factory. These options included every amenity offered in 1953, such as power brakes, steering, windows, convertible top, seats and even a powered antenna for the foot controlled selectronic radio. Kelsey-Hayes 40 spoke wire wheels with wide white walls were also standard. The 53 Skylark epitomized luxury and class. The elegant leather interior was complimented with the sweepspear moldings and stunning chrome. 1953 was the first year of the 322/188HP V8 OHV nailhead motor. The motor was followed by Buick's twin turbine dynaflow automatic transmission. This combination moved the Skylark to over 100 MPH and could do 0-60 in 12 seconds. Some go with tons of show...

Buick celebrates 110 years by naming most significant model of each decade

Sun, 23 Jun 2013

In May of 1903, Buick began work on its first vehicle, the 1904 Model B, the first example of which was sold to a doctor in Flint, Michigan. That first sale was appropriate since later on, Buick became known as a "doctor's car." The Model B is the first of 11 cars chosen by Buick to highlight each decade of the company's 110-year history.
The 1916 D-45 Touring with a six-cylinder engine was Buick's highest seller that year, and helped push overall sales past six figures for the first time, making Buick the top-selling automotive brand. In 1931, Series 50 got an eight-cylinder engine, which helped the company survive the Great Depression. The 1936 Century was the first Buick that could hit 100 miles per hour, the 1949 Roadmaster had a supporting role in Rain Man, the 1953 Skylark had Italian wire wheels and the owner's name engraved on its steering wheel.
Then we have the iconic 1963 Riviera, the V6-powered 1975 Regal, and in 1987, the legendary GNX. With a turbocharged, intercooled V6 pumping out 276-horsepower it could hit 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds. In 1999 Buick built the first car in China, the Century, and that country remains the brand's largest market.

A Nice, New Buick Aims For Middle Of The Road
Any time someone describes some portion of a car or a driving experience as being "nice," I want to either A) throttle them or B) run as fast and as far as I can from that vehicle. "Nice" is among the most insidious words in the English language - at best it's vague, and at worst, it conveys the exact opposite of its literal meaning. Yet it seems to be used with damnable frequency when it comes to verbally illustrating vehicles. "It looks really nice," or "These seats feel nice," or, heaven forefend, "It's got a nice ride," are all windy signifiers of absolutely nothing resembling a concrete opinion. "Nice" is the adjectival equivalent of meekly smiling and nodding your head.
Of course, I'm as guilty as the next person of having thrown English's least powerful descriptor around. There's even a chance that, rant aside, you'll catch me making nice in reviews to come. That's fine, but you should know that when you stumble upon such usage, past or future, that you've found a sentence in which I'm simply applying a bare minimum of effort to the task.

Buick dusting off Grand National, GNX and T-Type nameplates

Mon, 26 Nov 2012

Inside Line reports Buick is planning to bring back some of the more storied names from the company's past, including the Grand National, GNX and the T-Type. Those cars rose to prominence in the 1970s and '80s to become performance legends of their day.
The new models will reportedly make use of the rear-wheel drive platform that currently underpins the Cadillac ATS and all would arrive as sedans - according to an unnamed source familiar with the initiative. Odds are the T-Type and the Grand National would share a driveline, with honest money being on a new twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 as the engine of choice. Word has it the mill will be good for anywhere from 350 to 400 horsepower.
That leaves only the GNX. Inside Line seems to think that machine could get down the road with some help from the all-new GM LT1 small-block V8. The engineers behind the ATS platform have already told us the engine bay is large enough for to accommodate the big eight pot, and since GM is most certainly working on an ATS-V, a slightly less powerful, less luxurious Buick iteration makes some kind of sense. We can't wait to see these things in the light of day.
