TIGHT FRONT END WITH NO RATTLES, AND EFFORTLESS POWER STEERING. EXCELLENT BRAKES WITHOUT PULSATION. (RECENT MASTER CYLIINDER AND BRAKE LINES WHERE NECESSARY. NEW WELL BALANCED FIRESTONE INDY 500 RADIALS MOUNTED ON A NICE SET OF FACTORY RALLEY WHEELS GIVE SMOOTH RIDE. SUSPENSION IS AS IT SHOULD BE ALSO. ENGINE STARTS INSTANTANEOUSLY AND RUNS SMOOTH WITHOUT LIFTER, BEARING , OR EXHAUST NOISES. WIPERS, HORN AND ALL LIGHTS ARE WORKING PROPERLY. POWER BRAKES FEEL JUST RIGHT. POWER TOP GOES UP AND DOWN QUICKLY AND HAS NO FLUID LEAKS. NON MATCHING # BUICK 350 HAS FACTORY HISE RISE INTAKE WITH PERFECT FUNCTIONING 4 BBL CARB. ( CHOKE WORKS AS IT SHOULD AND SECONDARIES ENGAGE WITHOUT HESITATION.) A NEW FUEL TANK FEEDS THE CARB. PLENTY OF GET UP AND GO. SO, I WOULD SAY IT WOULD BE A NICE DRIVE HOME....... THE BODY LOOKS STRAIGHT, WITH VERY NICE URETHANE SINGLE STAGE PAINT. COLOR IS SLIGHTY BRIGHTER THAN ORIGINAL PAINT CODE AS EVIDENCED BY DOOR JAMS AND DECK LID INSIDE. REPAIRS TO BODY BASED ON INSPECTION ON DESCRIPTION TO ME BY PREVIOUS OWNER INCLUDE MINOR REPAIR LOWER CORNER FRONT FENDERS DONE WITH METAL, LOWER CORNERS OF DOORS, LOWER QUARTER SECTION ON PASSENGER SIDE. GS HOOD, (REAL ORIGINAL ONE! PRICE THOSE! HAS STRUCTURAL REPAIR WITH PROPER ORIGINAL BRACE UNDER FRONT PASSENGER CORNER SHEET METAL.) FOOR PANS ARE NEW AND INSTALLED NICELY TRUNK PAN ORIGINAL WITH A COUPLE OF 1/4" HOLES SHOWING ON CLOSE INSPECTION. ...........THE FRAME IS ORIGINAL BOXED COVERTIBLE FRAME AS SHOWN, WITH SOME EXCELLENT REINFORCEMENT IN DOGLEG TRAILING ARM AREA. DUE TO VALVE SEALS A PUFF OF SMOKE ON START UP, THEN IT GOES ENTIRELY AWAY. NO SMOKE ON ACCELLERATION. NOTICE THAT HEATER CORE BYPASSED. PREVIOUS OWNER SAID HE PUT IN A NEW ONE AND STILL HAD LEAK. POSSIBLE THAT IT IS OKAY AND HE DID NOT POSITION AND TIGHTEN HOSE CLAMPS PROPERLY. THE WEAKEST AREA OF CAR IS INTERIOR. DRIVERS SEAT HAS SPLITS IN SEAM AREAS. IT IS STILL VERY COMFY AND TILT WHEEL HELPS US OLD GUYS GETTING IN AND OUT.VERY NICE ORIGINAL DASH. ALL DOOR PANELS NEED RELACEMENT TO PROPERLY COMPLIMENT EXTERIOR. I WOULD DO WHOLE INTERIOR. (ABOUT $1000). IT IS, HOWEVER, VERY SERVICEABLE UNTILL YOU GET AROUND TO REPLACING IT. CONVERTIBLE TOP IS ORIGINAL AND HAS SPLITS ABOUT 6-8 " ON EITHER SIDE FROM OLD AGE. STILL IS KEEPING WATER OUT, BUT SHOULD BE REPLACED. REAR GLASS WINDOW WAS REPLACED WITH PROPER GLASS PANEL AND IS FINE. TOP COST IS ABOUT $250-$300 PLUS INSTALLATION. .......CHEAP AFTER MARKET STEREO WITH KENWOOD SPEAKERS THAT SOUNDS SURPRISINGLY GOOD. YOU WILL GET AS MANY LOOKS AND THUMBS UP WITH THIS CAR AS THE NUMBERS CORRECT GS FOR A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN PRICE. 455 ENGINE AVAILABLE, BUT WHY BOTHER. IT RUNS TOO WELL TO CHANGE. Buick Encore takes a hit of Mokka to tackle Dakar
Wed, 03 Sep 2014There are many vehicles we'd consider taking racing. Even on a cross-country rally as punishing as the Dakar. But a Buick Encore? That's not one that would enter our motorsports-based consciousness. Yet it's basically what General Motors is entering in the South American rally raid this year, and you're looking at it.
Unveiled at the Moscow Motor Show, this rally machine is based on (or at least billed as) an Opel Mokka - the name that GM's European brand applies to the vehicle Americans know as the Encore, Buick's subcompact crossover. Only it's obviously been extensively modified. It's got a ten-inch raised suspension, a 137-gallon fuel tank, carbon-fiber bodywork and... hold on, we're sure we're missing something here. Oh, right: a 6.2-liter V8 kicking out 340 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox.
In other words, this is not the same Encore (or Mokka) you can pick up at your local Buick, Opel or Vauxhall dealership. It's not even close. It's not even recognizable as such, really. It was unveiled alongside a more sedate Opel Mokka Moscow Edition and a slew of other local debuts for the Opel brand that you can read more about in the (translated and original) Russian press release below.
2014 Buick LaCrosse to sticker at $34,060*
Tue, 18 Jun 2013Buick first showed the facelifted 2014 LaCrosse at this year's New York Auto Show, and General Motors' luxury-ish arm has now confirmed that pricing for the updated sedan will start at $34,060 (*including $925 for destination), a increase of $1,505 over the 2013 model.
Buyers will be treated to an updated appearance, both inside and out. On the outside, tweaks were made to the LaCrosse's front and rear fascias, and new wheels are on offer (though the ones seen on the car pictured above seem to have been simply pulled from the 2011 Regal Turbo). Inside, there's a much cleaner center stack layout, complete with a standard eight-inch reconfigurable touchscreen IntelliLink interface. Buick is also offering a new Ultra Luxury interior package ($2,495), featuring Tamo Ash wood throughout the cabin, black synthetic suede on the headliner and leather seats in a new sangria color. Standalone options include different wheels, Bose audio, rear seat entertainment, navigation and a sunroof.
The 2014 LaCrosse's base powertrain is the trusty 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with eAssist, which is capable of achieving up to 36 miles per gallon on the highway. But for folks wanting more power, a 304-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 is available as a no-cost option, available with either front- or all-wheel drive.
Buick Envision cabin detailed ahead of reveal later this month
Sun, 17 Aug 2014Buick teased the arrival of the China-market Envision last month and gave us a few specs, now it's teasing the midsize crossover's interior and features. Having said it will "set a new benchmark in terms of space, safety, performance and specifications," we're told that equipment like the heated leather steering wheel and Bose-sourced active noise cancellation are market firsts in the segment.
Elsewhere, light will shine on occupants through the panoramic roof during the day and via ice blue ambient lighting at night, and seating surfaces are being shown off with dual-stitched leather. Lane departure warning and parking assist help keep the bodywork in order, stop/start ignition fitted to the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder with 256 horsepower and 260 pound-feet will help keep fuel economy up. One more convenience for the model's core buyers: a tailgate that can be partially opened.
The Normal, Tour, Sport and Off-Road driving modes come courtesy of FlexRide, that last one - meant for extra-light-duty dirt work, naturally - appearing on a Buick for the first time.
