1990 Cadillac Allante 99k Miles on 2040-cars
Saint Petersburg, Florida, United States
Very nice Allante with only 99k miles. I got the car about seven years ago from an Uncle who passed away. He was the second owner of the car, and all owners (including me) were over 60 years old. About two years ago someone broke out the passenger side window and tried to steal it. The car had a key in the ignition that was not mine, but apparently it didn't work because the car was right where I had left it. After the police left and I got in the car to leave it wouldn't shift out of second gear. It starts off smoothly and shifts from first to second smoothly, but won't shift from second to third, or third to fourth. I had never had any problem with the transmission prior to this incident. It runs great in second gear and doesn't make any unusual noises so I'm certain there is no damage to internal parts. I talked to a guy who specializes in Allantes (http://www.allantesource.com/index.html), and he seems to think that the computer was messed with, which can affect shifting. He also said that a worse case scenario (about $400-500) would be the replacement of a shift modulator. The part itself is inexpensive, but requires removal of transmission to replace. The engine runs perfectly, and exterior of the car is near perfect. Florida car with original pearl white paint that shines like new, with zero rust. The top doesn't leak, and I had just replaced radiator and catalytic converter. I start the car up about once a month, and occasionally drive it around the block. The drivers seat leather is in perfect condition, but the stitching has come undone on the bottom cushion. The passenger side seat is also in great condition, but you can see where the stitching is also getting ready to go. My Uncle also got factory "Vogue" wheels and tires from the local Cadillac dealer, and paid over $3,000 for them. This car could be one of the nicest Allante's around with around $1000-$1200 spent on it (considerably less if the computer just needs resetting). I'd keep this car and do the repairs if my finances allowed, Feel free to call me at 727-688-FISH (3474) Cell or 727-388-1322 home for more details |

GM considering new powertrain options for large SUVs
Tue, 15 Oct 2013Aside from the new General Motors offerings, there's not a whole lot of action going on in the fullsize SUV segment. That doesn't seem to be stopping GM from pushing the envelope in the market as Automotive News is reporting that the automaker is looking to introduce some new powertrain options into the Chevy Tahoe (and Suburban), GMC Yukon (and Yukon XL) and the Cadillac Escalade - all have been redesigned for the 2015 model year.
Now, we already know that GM and Ford are collaborating on nine- and ten-speed transmissions for a broad range of applications (including the big SUVs), but this new report says that GM is also considering other options as a way to one-up the competition and, of course, to optimize fuel economy. AN quotes Jeff Luke, executive chief engineer for GM trucks, as saying that "interesting powertrain technologies" are coming including a return of a hybrid SUV and possibly even a diesel engine. Although it sounds like the latter could come down to how customers respond to the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel.
Cadillac may not build Elmiraj coupe
Wed, 20 Nov 2013Despite the fact that most everyone who has laid eyes on the Cadillac Elmiraj concept coupe loves it, General Motors insiders are still trying to prove the business case to build the car. And it's certainly not a guarantee.
"I want to see this car go into production badly. Very badly," Ed Welburn, GM's Global Head of Design, told Autoblog. But the Cadillac design studio is busier than it's ever been before, and the company is working on prioritizing which cars deserve to get the billion-dollar price tag needed to research and develop a new model.
No matter what happens, Welburn says the car has made its mark on Cadillac
Cadillac moving to NY as separate business unit
Tue, 23 Sep 2014Cadillac is under new leadership, and the automaker is committed to turning itself (back) into a global luxury powerhouse. It's got a strong product offensive (of products currently in showrooms, and much more on the way), and now it will have a new location to call home.
Following earlier speculation, GM has confirmed that it is moving Cadillac's base of operations from Detroit to New York. Lest you think it might rent offices in the Chrysler Building (which is, after all, one of the tallest in the city), the new Cadillac global headquarters will be located in the Soho area with a "multipurpose brand and event space in conjunction with modern loft offices." The company is still evaluating which staff will move along with it to Manhattan, and which will remain in Michigan where technical operations will still be based.
The move from Detroit to New York is the first major change being instituted by new Cadillac chief Johan de Nysschen, who previously undertook a similar shift in moving Infiniti away from Nissan headquarters to its own facility in Hong Kong. Ford had attempted a similar move in relocating its luxury portfolio under the Premier Automotive Group (which then included Lincoln, Mercury, Land Rover, Jaguar, Aston Martin and Volvo) from Dearborn to Irvine, CA, but ended up moving Lincoln (the last one still under the Ford umbrella) back to Michigan. Other luxury automakers like Audi (Volkswagen) and Maserati (Fiat) are headquartered away from their parent companies as well, but have a longer history of independent operation.
