Selling due to health reasons.

We are selling our Allante.  We've had lots of fun with it - now it's time for someone else to enjoy this ride.  I purchased it from Hilton Head (South Carolina) Cadillac.  I believe that we are the 3rd owners according to the Used Car Manager there (who's no longer there).  We are selling the car AS IS with NO warranty.

The car is still stylist after 20 years!   Driving down the road; filling up with (premium) gas at the station; it still draws looks and smiles.

The best Allantes, in my opinion, were the last ones; the ones built in 1993.  The 93s came with the Northstar 32 valve V-8 rated at 295 HP. These engines feature spirited acceleration and excellent economy.  Cadillac says top end is 151 MPH.  15.5 mpg city; 22 mpg on the road - actual mileage.  GM finally silenced the Allante's critics who said of the early versions: "All show and no go."  This car is a ROCKET!

The 1993 also came with Cadillac's traction control.  If you've ever owned at Front Wheel Drive vehicle with an engine with muscle you know all about front wheel torque.  I had a 1992 Mercury Sable with the 3.8 V-6.  Very responsive - and very scary.  I punched the gas just one time.  The car took off like a scared rabbit.  But it also pulled violently to the right - and then violently to the left - and then I had to correct.  The RAPID acceleration of the 1993 Allante is straight and true.  Not even the slightest pulling left or right.  If you have the courage, you can let go of the steering wheel and punch the gas.  NOT RECOMMENDED!

This is a nice riding car!  It is not stiff nor hard.  After a long ride my back still felt fine.

Body - is aluminum.

Driver's seat shows wear.  Both power seats are in working order.

NON SMOKER.  No evidence of cigarette smoke in the car.  Ash tray shows no signs of use.

TOP - Is the rare Burgundy colored top.  There were only about 4200 Allantes made in 1993 - several body colors were available.  Add to that the $1000 premium for the Pearl White body paint option, and you have a very rare and unusual car.   The top is in excellent condition for its age - no rips nor tears.  The window heater works.

RARE - There were a total of 22,000 (approx) Allantes made over a 7 year period.  Designed and built in Italy by Pinifarini and shipped 53 at a time to Detroit (Hamtramack) via Air Italia in specially designed 747s.  In the 7 years, only one change was made: the window wings in the doors were removed and the mirrors moved up for better visibility in the 1993 model.   With  tail lights going for $750. each - and a trunk lid going for a supposedly $4K - these cars are worth more for parts.  It's a good investment.

Tires - UNIROYAL "Tiger Paws" 225 60R 16 - show very little wear.  I purchased 2 new tires to match the 2 new ones that came with the car.  They have about 4000 miles on them.  The spare donut looks like it has never touched the road - and the cover instructions specifically designate "ALLANTE."

REPAIR History:  I had the car shipped to the local Cadillac dealership.  A new battery was installed. The transmission was serviced.  I believe it was the front right ball joint was replaced.  Coolant was flushed.  Light bulbs replaced.  More recently I had a new alternator installed, a new serpintine belt, the top motor mount replaced as well as the trunk locking mechanism.  All work was done at the local Cadillac dealership.

The ON BOARD COMPUTER that monitors just about everything - works and reads that all systems are OK.

The 150 Watt stereo is original and works.
The CD player and the cassette player DO NOT WORK.  Car comes with my favorite Beatles' album trapped inside the CD player.

The power antenna works.

The A/C needs to be recharged.  This could be a major expense.  We bought the car to drive as a convertible; we were never interested in air conditioning.

The two red covers over the vanity mirrors in the sun visor are both broken.  The plastic does not like the sun and the tiny plastic hinges are fragile (and poorly designed).  Both covers are included.  I was going to use a rubber band to keep them in place.  Replacements may be available from the Allante Club President, Johnny M.      The Club has a website.

I took the 2 black fabric over plastic convertible motor covers off.  These are the ones that connect the top to the front windshield. They seemed to be always in the way.  The motors work well.  The covers are included.  The back tie down motor works flawlessly.

Comes with 2 1993 Cadillac Shop Manuals.

The 2 gas filled cylinders that hold up the trunk are weak.  In the trunk you will find 2 new replacements.  They look like they would be easy to install.

Comes with memorabilia: magazine articles, VHS tapes, etc.

Comes with extra parts: 2 high visibility brake lights: 1 is from a 1993 (no Cadillac emblem) and one is from 1987-92 (with Cadillac crest).

Comes with original Cadillac replacement chrome strip for front bumper in original box.  I have an estimate of $350. to replace the chrome strip and repaint the lower section of the passenger side door.  There is a spot about the size of a silver dollar where the clear coat has flaked off.  See picture.

Comes with original 4 silver/aluminum wheels - I added the chrome wheels - something I thought I'd never do with any car of mine.  The Pearl White Allante screams for chrome.  It's a great look, in my opinion.  The original wheels are included in case you prefer that look.

We are selling the car AS IS with NO warranty.

A $500. paypal deposit is required within 48 hours.  The balance is due within 7 days.  PayPal or a certified (Bank) check are acceptable.  I reserve the right to hold the sale until your check clears.

Transportation - I can help.  I have used McNutt (Missouri based) to transport two vehicles.  Cost is approximately a dollar a mile.  You can drive the car home.  It should be fine.  Again, no warranty.  You are purchasing the car as is.

You are welcome to drop by and inspect the car.  USE the "Ask the Seller a Question" option and include your phone number.  I will call you will directions.

Whew!  Thanks for reading all of this - and thanks for looking.

On Oct-15-13 at 14:53:26 PDT, seller added the following information:

AUCTION WINNER  will secure his/her own insurance PRIOR to pick up.  Insurance for a classic auto is inexpensive - I think I pay $100/year.   You really want insurance to protect your investment.  Relying on the car hauler's insurance could be disappointing should there be a lost incurred during transit.

Transportation - I have used McNutt Transportation to haul 2 cars for me in the past - with excellent results.  The cost is about a dollar a mile.  The winner will arrange - AND PAY- for transportation.

Thanks.  Len

Watch Brad Pitt's Chinese Cadillac XTS commercial

Thu, 14 Mar 2013

Once upon a time, in a land not so far from this one, Brad Pitt was the very face anti-consumerism. You see, when he slipped into the role of the elitist-loathing, food-abusing, violence-embracing Tyler Durden from Fight Club, his visage was inextricably married to images of leveling credit card corporations with nothing more than a little human fat and some determination. Of course, that was before Pitt settled into old age with a passel of children at his feet. Now, it seems, he'll shill for something as long as it doesn't damage his reputation in America.
Need proof? Look no further than this Chinese ad for the Cadillac XTS. In it, Pitt contentedly wafts the big front-wheel drive barge around San Francisco against a mildly euphoric soundtrack. You can check out the scene for yourself below, just make sure you have your last meal squarely situated in your stomach before pressing play. We have to wonder if Pitt wakes up in the middle of the night with Chuck Palahniuk's oddly omniscient words echoing in his ears: "Then you're trapped in your lovely nest, and the things you used to own, now they own you."

Cadillac logo losing its wreath?

Tue, 23 Jul 2013

The easily recognizable Cadillac logo dates back to the company's founding in the early 1900s, but over the last 110 years, there has been an on-again, off-again love affair with the wreath surrounding the crest. Cadillac's current badge design has used the wreath since the 1980s, but Automotive News is reporting that GM's luxury division is planning to ditch the laurel wreath for a cleaner-looking logo.
The new logo could make its debut as early as next month on a new concept car that will be revealed at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, although the report also says that it might be until 2015 before it makes its way to a production car. Even then, it doesn't like anything has been finalized yet, as the article also says that plans could still change.
As Cadillac looks to improve its global presence as a luxury automaker, the report says that a simpler logo could make it easier for designers to incorporate the badge onto the car - either in the grille or above the grille (possibly in a fashion similar to Mercedes-Benz). Head on over to the AN article, which shows the Cadillac logo dating back to its earliest design.

Cadillac shows 2015 Escalade interior

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

Following the reveal of the new GMC Yukon, Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, the next in line is Cadillac, which is set to unveil the new Escalade on October 7 in New York. And in the lead-up to the reveal, the company has released this third teaser image, giving us a good glimpse of the 'Slade's interior.
Or part of the interior, we should say, because while the image above clearly shows the new dashboard and center console, as well as parts of the front seats and interior door panels, the Escalade is most certainly not a two-seat coupe. The outgoing Escalade can accommodate up to eight in either standard or ESV form (but not in EXT pickup configuration), and the new model promises to deliver the same, and we're curious to see what Cadillac has in store for the rear passenger compartment.
Compared to its more accessible counterparts, the new Escalade clearly offers a more upscale environment than even the uplevel Yukon Denali, with softer-looking leather, richer wood veneer and a waterfall center infotainment console that's different from the more modular design in the Chevy and GMC. The steering wheel is also unique and the instrument cluster appears to meld more smoothly across the dashboard, but the door mirrors, wide center armrest, column shifter and A-pillar grab handle all look like they were carried over from the Escalade's platform mates.
