Model Overview

The 2009 Cadillac DTS comes in five trim levels. Base trim is equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control, leather seats, OnStar, bi-xenon headlamps, a power front seat, remote vehicle start and a CD/MP3 audio system with satellite radio.Upper DTS trims add heat to the front and rear seats, the steering wheel, the windshield washer and the exterior mirrors. Also, on the upper trims the front seats are cooled and the driver's seat features memory settings. Front and rear parking assist, StabiliTrak and brake assist are also part of the upper trim equipment groups. The DTS's interior is voluminous, with seating for five or six depending on whether a front bench or bucket seats are specified. In either configuration, passengers are ensconced in plush leather. You'll find generous legroom in any seating position, as well as a commodious 18.8-cubic-foot trunk. The suspension is clearly tuned for smooth freeway cruising, but the DTS keeps its composure when the road turns twisty. Cadillac's Northstar 4.6L V8 delivers 275 smooth horsepower to the DTS's front wheels. In the top-line Performance trim, the engine is tweaked to deliver 292 horsepower, and the chassis features 18-inch alloy wheels on a sport suspension with self-adjusting shock absorbers.Available safety equipment includes anti-lock brakes, traction control, an antiskid system and dual front, front-side and curtain-side airbags. With excellent crash test ratings, respectable 15 city/23 highway mileage estimates, a long list of features, a strong powertrain and room for the whole family, the DTS remains a solid choice for the luxury car buyer set.

2014 Cadillac CTS images leak out yet again

Mon, 25 Mar 2013

It seems the 2014 Cadillac CTS just doesn't want to stay under wraps. For the second time in as many days, Caddy's next sedan is showing a bit more sheetmetal than the automaker would like before it is officially debuted tomorrow at the New York Auto Show.
This time, the leak comes from USA Today, and we've gone ahead and added them to our gallery of 2014 CTS images. As you may know, Cadillac will bestow the next CTS with an all-new twin-turbo V6 engine that will offer up an impressive 420 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
USA Today also mentions a new Vsport model but doesn't give any more details other than the fact that it will boast the twin-turbo engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Of course, all you have to do is come back to these pages for the official unveiling tomorrow afternoon for all the sordid details. In the meantime, check out the images above.

Cadillac toned down ATS Coupe design due to customer feedback [w/poll]

Tue, 02 Sep 2014

Automakers always face a difficult decision when it comes to styling their cars. Design them too blandly and nobody will get excited about them. But style them too aggressively and they'll often end up turning off potential buyers.
Cadillac, for its part, is no stranger to aggressive design, but when it came to the new ATS Coupe, it elected to tone things down a bit. Speaking with The Detroit News in a wide-ranging interview, Cadillac design director Bob Boniface revealed that the original design for its compact coupe was edgier - closer to that of the CTS Coupe - with a wedgier profile, a more steeply raked beltline and a more severe grille. But potential customers surveyed in clinics apparently didn't like it. They found it looked heavy, inefficient and not fun to drive. So Boniface and his team literally went back to the drawing board and "took as much visual mass out of the car as [they] could." The resulting coupe, while handsome, looks far more similar to its four-door companion than did Cadillac's CTS.
What do you think, does the new ATS Coupe look just right, or is it too conservative? Voice your opinion in our quick online poll.

Cadillac moving to NY as separate business unit

Tue, 23 Sep 2014

Cadillac is under new leadership, and the automaker is committed to turning itself (back) into a global luxury powerhouse. It's got a strong product offensive (of products currently in showrooms, and much more on the way), and now it will have a new location to call home.
Following earlier speculation, GM has confirmed that it is moving Cadillac's base of operations from Detroit to New York. Lest you think it might rent offices in the Chrysler Building (which is, after all, one of the tallest in the city), the new Cadillac global headquarters will be located in the Soho area with a "multipurpose brand and event space in conjunction with modern loft offices." The company is still evaluating which staff will move along with it to Manhattan, and which will remain in Michigan where technical operations will still be based.
The move from Detroit to New York is the first major change being instituted by new Cadillac chief Johan de Nysschen, who previously undertook a similar shift in moving Infiniti away from Nissan headquarters to its own facility in Hong Kong. Ford had attempted a similar move in relocating its luxury portfolio under the Premier Automotive Group (which then included Lincoln, Mercury, Land Rover, Jaguar, Aston Martin and Volvo) from Dearborn to Irvine, CA, but ended up moving Lincoln (the last one still under the Ford umbrella) back to Michigan. Other luxury automakers like Audi (Volkswagen) and Maserati (Fiat) are headquartered away from their parent companies as well, but have a longer history of independent operation.
