This vehicle is equipped with the original air ride suspension option.  When the car is started, the air compressor needs several minutes to pressurize the suspension system, and lift the body to driving height.  A chrome lever under the dash can be pulled to activate the "Air Lift" function which raises the back of the car several more inches.  This is a rare find.

This vehicle does not have a functioning exhaust system.  Some exhaust components are missing.  Some exhaust components are not original.

All four doors open easily and close solidly.  There is a two inch long crack in the lower driver's window.  There is an 8 inch long crack in the lower front passenger's window.

The heater core has leaked and is removed from the vehicle.  The sheetmetal components for the heater core and all hardware are in the trunk.  (see photo)

A video showing the vehicle reversing, stopping, and then moving forward is available here:  http://youtu.be/EpN0VBj2G9M

The vehicle has a new battery

The brakes function, but do not release smoothly.

Some of the photos show a missing hubcap on the rear left wheel.  All four hubcaps are in good condition and will be sold with the car.

The automatic antennae does not function.  It is stuck in the up position.

The paint appears to be original. It is cracked and crazed in many areas.

The chrome trim is in good condition, although there are many rust specks.  There is a dent in the rear right side body trim.  There is a dent on the right side of the rear bumper.

The vehicle is equipped with an Autronic Eye device on the dash.  It is not known if this device functions.

There is a crack in the front right marker light lens.  The rear right backup light lens has been replaced by an aftermarket part which is made from plastic.

The electric windows all function.  The three way electric seat adjustment functions.  The electric trunk closing device functions.

The headliner fabric is in good condition, but the stitching is coming loose in several areas.

The car was found in the original owner's carport in southern Oregon.   The vehicle contained unused tags from 1974, so it probably had not been on the road since 1973.  It has been garaged since 1988.  This has always been an Oregon car, Oregon does not use road salt in the winter.

Cadillac tipped to call flagship something other than LTS

Sun, 21 Sep 2014

Cadillac wouldn't be Cadillac without large sedans in its lineup, and while the XTS has had to hold down that end of the fort all on its own, it won't have to for too long. That's because the luxury brand in the General Motors portfolio is preparing to roll out its new LTS, stylistically previewed by the Elmiraj concept pictured above. Only now, the latest thinking is that the upcoming flagship model may not be called LTS at all.
As Automotive News points out, Cadillac's naming scheme is all over the place at the moment. The ATS slotting below the CTS makes sense (alphabetically), but where do the ELR, SRX and especially the Escalade fit into that naming hierarchy? And how would LTS - as the project has been known until now - sit above the XTS?
Fortunately, Cadillac may be on the case, as two of the division's most recent senior appointments seem keen to rationalize the naming scheme. One is Uwe Ellinghaus, who joined Cadillac as chief marketing officer late last year. Speaking of the brand's nomenclature last spring, Ellinghaus was quoted as saying, "We are aware that this is currently a weakness of the Cadillac brand." And his new boss is bound to agree.

Cadillac CTS-V spotted with big exhaust, new grille?

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

If you thought Cadillac was content to leave its twin-turbocharged Vsport as the range-topping CTS, think again. Behold, our first good glimpse at the next-generation Cadillac CTS-V sedan, sporting more aggressive styling (somewhere under there), meaty quad-exhaust pipes, and what very well could be a new face for the V-badged Caddies.
Creating an all-new grille design seems like an awful lot of work just for a prototype, so it's very possible that the vertical-bar treatment you see here could make its way into production. Our spy photographers have pointed out that they've seen this same sort of grille treatment on prototypes for the smaller ATS-V sedan, and we've heard V-series models may soon have greater differentiation from the standard vehicles that sired them - that seems especially necessary if Cadillac insists on expanding this whole Vsport range.
Regardless of how its front end looks, the CTS-V ought to be a real monster. Industry sources say we can expect to see a supercharged version of General Motors' 6.2-liter V8 under the Caddy's hood, and considering the current car already makes 556 horsepower and 551 pound-feet of torque, we wouldn't be surprised to see a decent increase in both of those numbers. After all, one of the CTS-V's main competitors, the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, is currently putting out 550 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. Could this mean a 600-hp Cadillac is on the horizon?

All-Wheel, All Right
There is no escaping the luxury all-wheel drive empire Audi has built for itself over the past 15 years. While nearly every high-end marque has at least one offering with power at all four corners, the hardware can't help but play second fiddle to Ingolstadt's Quattro kingdom. Leather-lined all-wheel drive is simply Audi the way minimum wage is an English degree. But General Motors seems hell-bent on raiding as many established fiefdoms as possible with the 2013 Cadillac ATS. Engineers and designers made no secret of the fact that the baby Cadillac was penned specifically to take on the BMW 3 Series, but Audi should be no less concerned about the newest luxury prince from Detroit.
GM has been stuffing all-wheel drive systems under their vehicles for years, but the effort hasn't come without nasty side effects. Unfortunate understeer, extra ride height, smallish wheels and porky curb weight meant opting for all-wheel drive was like signing your driving pleasure's death warrant. Would you like polished brass or brushed nickel hardware for your right foot's coffin, sir?
