This 1997 Cadillac Sedan DeVille has been known to me since new. Originally bought in New Jersey by the elderly father of a friend, it was very lightly used until his passing in 2000. At that time my in-laws acquired the car. They own several cars and they reserved 'the Caddy" for use on special occasions and three trips to Florida. Always garaged, the car has been regularly serviced and treated kindly. All owners have been non-smokers. I recently bought the car and immediately turned it over to my mechanic for a thorough inspection. Though he found nothing wrong, he replaced all the fluids, aligned the wheels and replaced the rear brakes and disks to insure the car would pass inspection. Everything works on this car from the smooth shifting transmission to the electric trunk closer. I would not hesitate to take in on a cross-country trip tomorrow and I've easily managed 26 mpg on the highway. That said, the car is 17 years old and as such shows some wear and tear. There are no dents but there are some minor scratches in the paint and trim. The leather on the front passenger seat has a blemish and the carpets could use a good cleaning. The car is rock solid.

Lansing builds its millionth Cadillac
Wed, 18 Sep 2013Cadillacs are built at plants across North America. The Escalade is assembled in Texas, the SRX in Mexico and the XTS in Ontario. But the bulk of Cadillac's lineup - or the smaller members of the family, at least - are built in Michigan. And while the upcoming ELR will be built alongside the Chevy Volt at the Detroit/Hamtramck facility (which incidentally opened with the Cadillac Eldorado back in '86), the majority of those Cadillacs built in Michigan are handled by the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant.
In fact, Lansing Grand River just celebrated its millionth Cadillac built. The landmark millionth vehicle is a new 2014 CTS sedan in Red Obsession Tintcoat. The facility opened in 2001 and has built Cadillacs almost exclusively since then, assembling the CTS and ATS model lines, though in a couple of years it will also handle production of the Chevy Camaro.
Cadillac to vie for Secret Service armored car contract, new Beast?
Wed, 03 Jul 2013President Obama has used the same armored limo since his inauguration in 2008. Known by many as The Beast, the Presidential Limo was provided by Cadillac and earned its nickname in large part because of its massive size, which isn't surprising considering that its Caddy-shaped bodywork is said to sit atop a heavy-duty truck chassis.
It seems the Secret Service may be in the market for a Beast replacement, having issued a request for proposals for a new armored limo. According to Motor Trend, Obama's backup limo is a leftover from the Bush Administration, so it will be interesting to see if this new machine will serve as a replacement for The Beast or for its backup. The contract is to be awarded by September 29, 2013.
The boys from MT contacted Cadillac, Lincoln and Chrysler, and Chrysler is the only one that would confirm that it is not pursuing the contract. Cadillac may have the inside track, as it has provided Presidential limos since 1993, but Lincoln also has a long and storied history of chauffeuring the President.
Cadillac's Butler announces surprise departure
Mon, 05 Aug 2013The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Cadillac's vice president of global strategic development, Don Butler, has resigned. Butler has held the position since April, after a term as vice president of US marketing for General Motor's luxury brand.
As the report explains, the timing here is pretty unfortunate for Cadillac. Butler is the third high-profile member of Cadillac's brass to depart in recent months, following the firing of US sales boss Chase Hawkins and the pending departure of Susan Docherty. Cadillac spokesman David Caldwell told the Detroit paper, "Bob [Ferguson]," global boss for Cadillac, "and other leaders asked him to stay on. Don's here in the office today - and told our team that his decision is purely on a personal level. After three years of putting everything into Cadillac, he is stepping away for some personal time, and to consider new avenues in his life."
Butler says his decision is part of a decision to "recalibrate, reassess my priorities." Whatever the reason, it's an unpleasant surprise for Cadillac, which has been on a surge in 2013, with 30-percent jump in sales on the heels of the hot-selling ATS.
