     Offered for your consideration is one of the most desirable of all 50's cars, this 57 Biarritz convertible.  I have owned this car for over 15 years and I am reluctantly offering it for sale. This car was from California originally and has been in  dry inside storage since 1974, it has not been run since then as well. The engine is fee and all the windows operate. The power top runs but does not engage. As far as I know the car is completely original except for a poor repaint done before 1974. Poor adhesion has caused the paint to peel and crack. I am assuming it is lacquer. Everything that is supposed to be there is ther as far as I know.  I am not an expert on these cars but I think it is an  amazing survivor examle of an amazing styling triumph.    

Seldom has a motor car created such intense excitement as the all-new Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible for 1957. With styling inspired by Motorama show cars, the ultra-prestigious Eldorado Biarritz oozed opulence. From the massive shimmering chrome grille, dual winged front fender ornaments, to the American style rear fins mounted on European-look rounded fenders, commonly referred to as "chipmunk cheeks", on to the chrome rear panels that swept from the rear wheel arches into a wraparound bumper featuring molded exhaust outlets; all seductively pulled together in stunning dramatic fashion by the rounded rear deck lid. And of course, as with all convertibles, it looked most exquisite with the top down and the parade boot in place. Even in the fantasy world of Harley Earl there was nothing like it before or since. If reading this description out loud leaves you breathless, well that’s the condition the car was meant to leave you in.

Allegedly one of the hardest ‘50s era cars to restore because of the scarcity of parts due to the low production numbers and amount of hand work, a concours quality Biarritz is truly a sight to behold. One of just 1,800 built , I doubt that ther are many opportunities left to find a car of this callibur.

Innovations included an unusual tubular X-frame, without side rails. This new design gave the car greater rigidity, an increase in length and wheelbase, and allowed the body to sit 3” lower to the ground; at the expense of side impact protection. A radically curved wraparound windshield added style. The optional air-ride suspension system afforded a luxurious ride when it worked, which was at best sporadically. Most buyers took a pass on this option and many of those who didn’t chose to retrofit to traditional springs lest their car take on a list, sag and drag hardly fitting the “standard of the world”.

Weighing in at 4,930 pounds the Biarritz needed massive power to haul itself around. Fittingly, the 1957 Biarritz sported the most potent V-8 engine offered by Cadillac. The over-square, bored-out 365-cid V-8 with twin Carter four-barrel carburetors delivered 325 horsepower to the 'Sabre Spoke' aluminum wheels via a four speed Hydra-Matic transmission, enough power to propel the car to a luxurious 118 mph top speed.

List price of the Biarritz was a staggering $7,286 (about $58,324.04 in today’s dollars), more than $2,000 above a Series 62. Understandably only 1,800 were ever built.

To mark Cadillac's Golden Anniversary in 1952 a special show car was built. An in-house competition was held to name it. Mary-Ann Marini, a secretary in the GM merchandising department, proposed the name “Eldorado” and won the contest. The name Eldorado, often associated with the fabled "Lost City of Gold" from the days of the Spanish Conquistadors, is derived from the Spanish words "el dorado", which translates in English to "the golden one". A fitting name for the ’57 Eldorado Biarritz if there ever was one.

2015 Cadillac Escalade on sale in April priced at $71,695*

With the fourth-generation Cadillac Escalade set to go on sale in April, Cadillac has released the pricing data for its fullsize luxury SUV. While there's no retail configurator yet, the data posted on AOL Autos - and confirmed by Cadillac - shows that the 2015 Escalade will have a starting price of $71,695 (*not including $995 for destination).
This new starting price is about $8,000 more than the outgoing model, but Cadillac is quick to point out that the latest 'Slade is packed with more standard equipment in the new base Standard trim that actually puts it more on par with the midlevel Premium trim on the 2014 model (currently priced at $73,245). These new standard features include Magnetic Ride Control, LED headlights and taillights and 20-inch wheels.
Stepping up to the 2015 Escalade Luxury, the price increases to $75,695 and includes added equipment like 22-inch wheels, head-up display, power fold-and-tumble second-row seats and safety systems such as forward collision warning and lane departure warning. The top-rung 2015 Escalade Premium will start at $80,195 adding features such as a rear-seat entertainment system, illuminated exterior door handles and the Driver Assist Package consisting of front and rear automatic braking and adaptive cruise control.

GM recalling 54k Cadillac SRX, HD pickup models

There are more recalls to report General Motors, but these latest actions pertain to newer examples of the Cadillac SRX, Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD. With so much scrutiny on the company's recall strategy, GM is under increasing pressure to call in defective models more quickly, and it appears to be doing so here.
Here in the US, the automaker is recalling 50,571 Cadillac SRX crossovers from the 2013 model year fitted with the 3.6-liter V6 because the transmission control module programming can cause a three- or four-second lag in acceleration at low speeds. The explanation filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states, "if the following sequence occurs within two seconds: during an upshift from first to second gear (8-10 mph), the driver then brakes the vehicle to less than 5 mph, and then accelerates again," the delay can occur. According to Automotive News, the recall effects 56,400 vehicles worldwide, and the company is not aware of any crashes caused by the problem. The fix consists of a transmission control module (TCM) reflash.
In a separate recall, GM is repairing 51 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD pickups from the 2015 model year in the US. In vehicles with diesel engines and dual fuel tanks, the nuts that connect the fuel pipe to each side of the transfer pump between the tanks may be improperly torqued, which could cause a fuel leak. Obviously, this could be a fire hazard. The remedy is simply tightening the hardware. According to GM spokesperson Alan Adler, there have been no fires actually caused by the potential leak. "Only 21 of the trucks are in customer possession and they can be fixed anytime because there are no parts involved. The others are being fixed at dealerships," Adler said in an email to Autoblog.

Cadillac moving to NY as separate business unit

Cadillac is under new leadership, and the automaker is committed to turning itself (back) into a global luxury powerhouse. It's got a strong product offensive (of products currently in showrooms, and much more on the way), and now it will have a new location to call home.
Following earlier speculation, GM has confirmed that it is moving Cadillac's base of operations from Detroit to New York. Lest you think it might rent offices in the Chrysler Building (which is, after all, one of the tallest in the city), the new Cadillac global headquarters will be located in the Soho area with a "multipurpose brand and event space in conjunction with modern loft offices." The company is still evaluating which staff will move along with it to Manhattan, and which will remain in Michigan where technical operations will still be based.
The move from Detroit to New York is the first major change being instituted by new Cadillac chief Johan de Nysschen, who previously undertook a similar shift in moving Infiniti away from Nissan headquarters to its own facility in Hong Kong. Ford had attempted a similar move in relocating its luxury portfolio under the Premier Automotive Group (which then included Lincoln, Mercury, Land Rover, Jaguar, Aston Martin and Volvo) from Dearborn to Irvine, CA, but ended up moving Lincoln (the last one still under the Ford umbrella) back to Michigan. Other luxury automakers like Audi (Volkswagen) and Maserati (Fiat) are headquartered away from their parent companies as well, but have a longer history of independent operation.
