1982 Cadillac Eldorado Coupe, 51,904 Original Miles, 4 Owners From New, Carriage Top Option, Wire Wheel Cover Option, Perfect Running Condition

VIN #  1G6AL5780EE627069

This 1984 Cadillac Eldorado Coupe is fantastic example of one of the most popular mid-eighties Cadillacs produced and represents an era of cars that will never be seen again…

The condition of this car is very original and very well presented.  The car shows very few signs of age and has 51,904 miles on the odometer.  I believe I am the fourth owner from new.

This car still retains just about every option available on an Eldorado at the time, and everything at the time of this listing is in working order.

BODY:

This Eldorado wears its factory correct and original paint, which is in very nice condition, with no cracking, fading, or checking evident.  It was painted approximately 4 years ago.  All of the body panels are ripple, dent, and rust free and don’t appear to have had any sort of body or accident damage.

The glass and seals are in excellent condition and there are no leaks evident.

The body trim, including the chrome, aluminum, and rubber, is in good condition.  No trim has been replaced, nor has it needed to be, on the car.  It has all been polished, preserved and cared for properly over the years.  There are some minor imperfections, in particular on the top of the front bumper toward one side at the rear where a small area of the chrome has bubbled, but overall, the trim is in line with what the condition should be on a car of this age with the mileage shown.

The bumper fillers (a major issue for all Cadillacs of this era) were replaced when the car was painted.  Consequently, the new owner will not have to worry about any cracking, splitting,  or future replacement.

INTERIOR:

The interior is trimmed in the original leather.  The seating areas are in nice condition, with no rips or tears.  The door panels are also in good condition, but please pay attention to the photos in the description of the driver’s side door panel, as it has a couple of age cracks by the controls, as is common on cars of this age.  The simulated wood trim is also in good condition and not in need of repair.  The carpet is also original and in very presentable condition.

All of the accessories, including the climate control, are in perfect working order.  The original factory AM/FM stereo cassette system is still in place and works, but the display does not show the station all of the time.

All of the windows power up and down and work.  The trunk is in very nice condition, the trunk covering is in excellent condition with no rips, tears, or missing pieces, and the spare tire and jack are accounted for and in very nice condition.

UNDERCARRIAGE:

The underside of the car is in line with a well- cared for car.  Again, it is very solid and very well preserved, with no evidence of any accident damage.  I couldn’t include all of the photos of the undercarriage in the ad, so if you’d like to see a complete set, please contact me and I will email them to you.

ENGINE and ENGINE COMPARTMENT:

The powerplant in this Cadillac is the original 4100 V-8 engine.  It is completely original and as you can see from the photos, very well preserved.  All aspects of the motor are in perfect working order, and the compression ratio is exactly where it should be.

The engine bay is completely original, with all components in operational condition.  Every detail of the engine compartment is “Cadillac Correct” and well preserved.  There is some minor wear to certain painted surfaces due to age, but overall, it is very presentable.

This is a Cadillac 4100 engine, and although they did have problems early on in the production run, by 1984, all of the problems were ironed out by GM.  Even though I have never had any type of issue with the motor, I do put the coolant pellets (available from the Cadillac parts counter) in the radiator on a regular basis.

All engine and drivetrain maintenance is up to date, including the following services:

-oil and filter change

-air filter replacement

-installation of new fuel filter

-engine coolant

-installation of drive belts

-lubrication of entire chassis

TRANSMISSION:

The automatic transmission in this car is in perfect working order and functions as a 51,000 mile car should.  It is the original transmission to the car.

TIRES, WHEELS, and BRAKES:

The tires are in very nice condition and are not in need of replacement at this time.  They and are the correct and original size replacement for the ’84 Eldorado.

The wheels are the original Cadillac wheels, and are in excellent condition.  The wheel covers are also the original Cadillac wheels covers.  All of the center caps have a sharp Cadillac crest on them and are original and also in very nice condition.

The entire braking system has been gone through to ensure every part works as it should.  All rotors, pads, and seals have been replaced and brake fluid flushed.

OVERALL DRIVING IMPRESSIONS:

This Eldorado runs and drives as should – It’s barely broken in!  The 8 cylinder powerplant runs and accelerates smoothly and very quickly and the transmission shifts as it should.

The car drives around town and on the open road with no squeaks, creaks, or rattles.  It has had all of the necessary service recently performed including oil-change, tune up, installation of new battery, and transmission and differential service.  It needs absolutely nothing to drive, show, and enjoy.  All of the mechanical aspects of the car work as they should.

PLEASE NOTE:

This Eldorado still retains all of its original or N.O.S. components!  This means the engine, transmission, rear end, etc. are original or correct to the car.  All of the numbers, markings, etc., are correct.  THIS Eldorado HAS NEVER BEEN MODIFIED IN ANY WAY!  It is an original and very special car that, as evidenced by the low mileage and condition, has been driven very sparingly and properly cared for during the last 30 years…

If you’ve never driven a Cadillac of this period, you are in for a treat with this one!

If you are serious about purchasing this vehicle, I encourage you to come, take a look, and drive it.  I can also provide you with additional photos of any specific part you have questions about.

You or your mechanic are also welcome to put the car on a lift and perform any drivetrain inspection you wish, including a compression check.

The Eldorado is a personal luxury car manufactured and marketed by the Cadillac Division of General Motors from 1953 to 2002. Competitors included the Lincoln Mark series and the lower-priced Buick Riviera and Oldsmobile Toronado.

The Eldorado was at or near the top of the Cadillac line during early model years. The original 1953 Eldorado convertible and the Eldorado Brougham models of 1957–1960 were the most expensive models that Cadillac offered those years, and the Eldorado was never less than second in price after the Cadillac Series 75 until 1966.[1][2] Eldorados bore the Fleetwood designation from 1965 through 1972.

Beginning in 1961, Cadillac marketed an upper trim level named after the French coastal resort, the Eldorado Biarritz.

The name "Eldorado" was proposed for a special show car built in 1952 to mark Cadillac's Golden Anniversary; it was the result of in-house competition won by Mary-Ann Marini (nee Zukosky), a secretary in the company's merchandising department. Another source, Palm Springs Life magazine, attributes the name to a resort destination in California's Coachella Valley that was a favorite of General Motors executives. However, the Eldorado Country Club in Indian Wells, California was not founded until 1957 - five years after Cadillac's naming competition. In any case, the name was adopted by the company for a new, limited-edition convertible that was added to the line in 1953.

The name Eldorado was derived from the Spanish words "el dorado", which is translated "the gilded one" or "the golden one" in English; the name was originally given to the legendary chief or "cacique" of a South American Indian tribe. Legend has it that his followers would sprinkle his body with gold dust on ceremonial occasions and he would wash it off again by diving into a lake. The name more frequently refers to a legendary city of fabulous riches, somewhere in South America, that inspired many European expeditions, including one to the Orinoco by England's Sir Walter Raleigh.

For 1979, a new, trimmer Eldorado was introduced, and for the first time the car shared its chassis with the Buick Riviera as well as the Toronado. Smaller 350 and 368 in (5.7 and 6.0 L) V8's replaced the 500 and 425 in (8.2 and 7.0 L) of the preceding model, giving better fuel efficiency. For 1979, it was offered only with the Oldsmobile 350 as standard, with the Diesel 350 available as an option.

In 1980, the gas 350 was replaced with the Cadillac 368 except in California, where the Oldsmobile 350 was retained for that year. In both the 1980 Seville and Eldorado (which shared their frames), the 368s in 1980 came with DEFI, whereas for the larger RWD Cadillacs, the 368 only came with a 4-barrel Quadrajet carburetor. Independent rear suspension was adopted, helping retain rear-seat and trunk room in the smaller body. The most notable styling touch was an extreme notchback roofline, making the rear window almost vertical. The Eldorado Biarritz model resurrected the stainless-steel roof concept from the first Brougham. Although downsized, these Eldorados were still substantial-sized cars with good room and power. Contrary to the current body design of the time, the Eldorado continued to feature frameless door glass, and the rear quarter windows re-appeared as they did before 1971, without a thick "B" pillar. However, these cars were not true hardtops, as the rear quarter windows were fixed and could not be rolled down. Most people probably didn't even notice, since air conditioning was de rigueur for all the cars, and the coupe featured "hospital zone" quietness with the windows closed. Sales set a new record at 67,436.

For 1981, Cadillac began offering the V8-6-4 variable displacement variant of the 368 engine, which was designed to deactivate some cylinders when full power was not needed, helping meet GM's obligations under the government fuel economy ("CAFE") standards. Unfortunately, it did not work as planned, and sometimes did not work at all. It was a reduced bore version of the 1968 model-year 472, sharing that engine's stroke and also that of the model-year 1977–1979 425. The engine itself was extremely rugged and durable, but its complex electronics were the source of customer complaints.

1981 was the first year electronic "digital" instrumentation was an available option. In addition to the digital electronic climate control that was standard on all Eldorados, the standard analog speedometer and fuel gauges could be replaced with a digital display showing speed in a single, precise, and instant number and a fuel gauge that would read the number of gallons of fuel remaining in the gas tank and another gauge showing approximately how many miles can be driven on it.

In 1984, Cadillac also introduced a convertible version of Eldorado Biarritz. It was 200 pounds heavier, but featured the same interior as other Biarritz versions. The model year of 1985 was the last year for the ASC, Inc., aftermarket conversion Eldorado convertible. Because of its limited edition (around 3000 total), the convertible models are now highly sought after by numerous collectors. Total sales set an all time record of 77,806, accounting for about 26% of all Cadillacs sold.

Prior to the 'official' 1984 and 1985 Eldorado convertibles marketed by Cadillac, some 1979-83 Eldorados were made into coach convertibles by independent coachbuilders e.g. American Sunroof Corporation, Custom Coach (Lima, Ohio - this coachbuilder turned a few 1977 and 1978 Eldorados into convertibles), Hess & Eisenhardt. The same coachbuilders also converted the Oldsmobile Toronado and Buick Riviera into a ragtop.

Late in the 1985 model year, an optional 'Commemorative Edition' package was announced, in honor of the last year of production for this version of the Eldorado. Exclusive features included gold-tone script and tail-lamp emblems, specific sail panel badges, gold-background wheel center caps, and a "Commemorative Edition" badge on the steering wheel horn pad. Leather upholstery (available in Dark Blue or White, or a two-tone with Dark Blue and White) was included in the package, along with a Dark Blue dashboard and carpeting. Exterior colors were Cotillion White or Commodore Blue.

Cadillac back on track with 600-hp ATS-V.R racer in FIA GT3 spec [w/video]

Fri, 14 Nov 2014

There was already a rumor brewing that Cadillac might eschew the CTS as its racecar next season in favor of the ATS Coupe. It turns out that is absolutely the case, and now we know just what this 600-horsepower, future racer looks like. The coupe might not be limited to competing in just the US, though, because it's built to FIA GT3-specifications, meaning that this Caddy is also eligible to race in over 30 series worldwide against the likes of Bentley, McLaren, Audi and other premium brands.
The heart of this massively winged Cadillac is an engine dubbed the LF4.R. It's based around the unit in the production ATS-V and CTS Vsport but with larger turbos, bigger intercoolers, side exhausts and other tricks. Cadillac claims it makes a monstrous 600 hp and 520 pound-feet of torque in unrestricted form.
As the photo above shows, the ATS-V.R also wears an aggressive aero kit with a carbon fiber front splitter, and a wing at the back that could probably double as a picnic table in a pinch. The dry weight of the whole package is quoted at about 2,900 pounds, which is around 700 pounds less than the street version.

GM recalls full-size truck, SUVs and vans over faulty shifter mechanism

Mon, 07 Jan 2013

Twelve different General Motors vehicles from the 2013 model year, up to 54,686 units in total, are being recalled over two potential issues with their steering columns. The models in question, all full-size trucks, SUVs or vans, are the: Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Express, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Savana, Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL.
The affected vehicles were built with a fractured parking lock cable or "a malformed steering column lock actuator gear in the lock module assembly." As a consequence, they could shift out of park without the brake pedal being applied or with the key removed or in the off position.
A bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that the recall should begin on January 17. GM will notify owners, at which time they can take their vehicles to their dealers for repair free of charge. Have a look at the bulletin below for more information.

Cadillac to launch Super Cruise semi-autonomous technology in two years [w/video]

Sun, 07 Sep 2014

We all know that self-driving cars are coming. It's not so much a question of If so much as When. And when it comes to General Motors products, we now have something of a date to work with, as Cadillac has announced plans to roll out what it is calling Super Cruise technology in an unnamed new model within the next two years. As you would expect, this new tech can speed the car up, slow it down and keep it in its intended lane, but GM isn't expected to release a fully self-driving car, saying that it will still require "an attentive driver."
We're not quite sure what new model Cadillac will use to launch this new technology, but our best guess would be its upcoming LTS sedan. Other possibilities may include a new crossover - we've heard rumors of CUVS coming from Caddy both above and below the current SRX - or entry-level sedan, but those seem less likely than a high-dollar flagship like the LTS.
The next techy bit of kit currently being shown off by Cadillac engineers includes vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, technology which would seemingly allow cars to travel in close proximity to one another, with less danger of collisions. According to our friends at Engadget, GM is working with the University of Michigan to outfit some 120 miles of roads in and around Detroit, MI, with the requisite sensors to make all this technology possible.
