We are selling our 2004 Cadillac Escalade.  We purchased this from a family friend in October of 2006, coming off of lease.  We originally paid $37,770, with 34,390 miles. Original MSRP was $55,535.  My wife drives this 4 days a week for the past seven years to commute to work, which is about 10 miles each way.  She has averaged about 12,000 miles per year.  Other than that, we use it to haul the 3 kids here and there.

We are selling the truck because I recently purchased a new vehicle, so the wife has the itch for a new truck.  We are going to sell this and get a late model Yukon or Tahoe.  We have had this for just over seven years, and my wife has treated this truck better than me.  She washes it by hand every weekend, towel drying and vacuuming.  It’s a beautiful looking truck.  The dark tinted windows against the white paint, along with the aftermarket chrome 20” rims make this truck stand out when she comes down the street. The standard white front grille and door handles were replaced with custom chrome aftermarket parts. Compare these pictures to some standard models for sale and you'll notice the difference. Not to mention, the aftermarket exhaust makes a sweet deep rumble.  It really is a special car.

We almost traded it in last month, and just as we were in the process of shopping for a new car, there was an issue with the transmission.  Instead of taking a chance on a $700 repair, we decided to have the dealer install a new GM Certified Transmission with a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty (parts and labor) for a cost to us of $3,300!  So, our loss is your gain!  It would have been much more difficult to sell a truck with a transmission issue, so we bit the bullet. With that being said, this is probably the only Escalade on the market with a new transmission.

Below is a list of everything I can think of regarding both the positives, and the potential future work needed:

Awesome Features:
  • Brand new GM Transmission with 3 year/100,000 mile parts and labor warranty.  This was replaced in the beginning of February.  We paid $3,300.  All work was done by Holman Cadillac in Turnersville, NJ.
  • 20” Chrome Tezzen Struck aftermarket wheels with 295/50 tires.  Original cost was $2,555 (I have a copy of the invoice).  The 295/50 low profile really makes the wheels stand out.  I do have the original wheels if you would prefer.
  • All four tires are approximately 6 months old and have just about all of the tread.  This is about a $800-$1,000 value.
  • Custom aftermarket chrome grille.  Original cost was $1,269 including chrome door handles (I have a copy of the invoice).
  • Chrome door handles (aftermarket)
  • Aftermarket Chrome Exhaust
  • Navigation
  • Sirius
  • On-Star
  • Heated Leather Seats
  • Overhead DVD Entertainment
  • Tow package (we never used it)
  • 3rd row seating
  • Side view mirrors fold in automatically at the push of a button.
  • Turn signal on side view mirrors
  • Back up park assist
  • 2 owners
  • All work (including oil changes) performed by a Cadillac Dealership (other than new tires)
  • Treated like a baby

Any time I sell a car, I list everything that I am aware of that would need to be done to the vehicle.  I would hope someone does the same for me.  You can be assured anything listed is everything we are aware of.

Potential upcoming maintenance:
  • New brakes are definitely needed.  We were going to have this done, but wanted to put the money into the transmission instead.  Most people have someone that can do the brakes cheaper than the dealer.  The dealer cost is $700 which includes new pads and resurfacing the rotors.  They did look at the rotors and said that new rotors are not needed.  I’m sure an independent shop could do this for a bit less.
  • There are two messages that show up on the dashboard:
    • One references the tire pressure.  Because these are aftermarket wheels, without the internal tire pressure gauge, this warning pops up that the computer doesn’t read the pressure from the tires.  This of course isn’t an issue, as the tires are fine, but it does show up.
    • The other is for the Ride Service Control.  There is some type of rear shock that adjusts the height of the back of the truck depending on what is loaded in the back.  The compressor no longer works, but we never noticed a difference.  We didn’t notice any change in the ride, so we opted not to repair it.  Your choice.
  • You may want to have spark plugs replaced along with regular maintenance items that you would usually replace for a car this age.  Our last maintenance was done at around 75,000 miles.
  • The paint is immaculate, but you’ll see there are two small spots missing paint on the passenger front bumper.  I actually didn’t notice this until I took pictures of the car.
  • DVD player can be quirky.  Every once in a while, we have to turn the car off then on again to get it to read the disc.

We are sad to see the Escalade go, as it’s been good to us.  Please give me a call on my cell at 610-389-8472 or email at johnplumley@gmail.com if you have any questions or you would like to come by to check it out.

Thanks,
John

Mercedes leads in US luxury car thefts

Wed, 31 Jul 2013

Mercedes-Benz makes some fine automobiles. The Silver Arrow'd cars are so good, apparently, that thieves can't help but try to steal them. The German brand is at the top of the charts for luxury car thefts in the US, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, with New York City leading the way. (And those New Yorkers complain about Detroit being bad!)
The C-Class was the most stolen model, with 485 ganked between 2009 and 2012 in NYC alone, while the E-Class and S-Class (which also boasted the worst recovery rate, at 59 percent) both finished in the top ten. Following the C-Class was the BMW 3 Series and Infiniti G. Not surprisingly, each of these were the most common models in their respective lineups. Los Angeles and Miami are also prime hotspots for luxury car thefts, according to the Detroit News report.
While getting your car stolen is pretty awful, there was one inspiring statistic compiled by the NICB - the average recovery rate across the board was 84 percent, with the Cadillac CTS getting recovered 91 percent of the time.

Cadillac still planning for big things in China

Sat, 20 Apr 2013

Despite some hiccups, China remains the auto industry's great hope for new vehicle sales, with significant sales gains and a huge upside. Nowhere is that hope more fervent than at General Motors, which offers eight different marques in the Asian nation. China has been GM's single biggest market the last three years running, and is unlikely to give up that title anytime soon. Yet its premiere brand, Cadillac, has remained essentially stagnant, selling just 30,000 units in China last year. That's in a segment where sales of luxury vehicles has outpaced that of the larger Chinese market. So what gives?
According to Cadillac officials Autoblog spoke with in China this week at the Shanghai Motor Show, it's been a problem of product - they haven't had the right ones. Displacement taxation issues, import tariffs and currency fluctuations have all conspired to make the brand's products less appealing than they might otherwise have been. But GM is stepping on the gas with Cadillac, and executives are eyeballing 100,000 sales by 2016 - more than triple the Wreath and Crest's current volume. And the expectations for the brand only get more ambitious from there - they're shooting for 10 percent of the luxury market by 2020. Bob Socia, President of GM China, promises that there will be a new Caddy launched in the market each year from now through 2016 and most will be built in China. Characterizing the company's efforts to revive the brand's fortunes as a "relaunch" of sorts, Cadillac also figures to gain dealers as GM expands its sales outlet footprint westward.
New products like a made-in-China XTS sedan (with a market-specific 2.0-liter four-cylinder to avoid heavy displacement taxes) will help, and Socia hinted that the ATS sport sedan could be next in line for in-country production. The SRX crossover - currently the brand's best-selling model in China - will also likely get a long look for future local production when the next-generation model is introduced. In the meantime, Cadillac unveiled the Escalade ESV Hybrid (shown above) as its latest model addition to capitalize on the market's white-hot luxury SUV segment.

Cadillac teases production ELR ahead of Detroit Auto Show

Tue, 18 Dec 2012

General Motors has just confirmed that the 2014 Cadillac ELR will make its official debut next month at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. We've already seen the ELR testing earlier this year using the same range-extended electric drive system as the Chevrolet Volt, and based on the shadowy image above, we're happy to see that the coupe's styling has stayed pretty true to 2009 Converj Concept.
The two-door ELR will be built alongside the Volt at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck plant starting later next year. Aside from this info, Cadillac has remained tight-lipped on the specific details of the car. But all that will all change on January 15.
Until then, all we have to offer you is the press release posted after the jump.
