You are bidding on an extremely rare factory ordered 4x4 (straight axle) Astro Van. This van was originally ordered by Jack Demsey owner of Demsey Chevrolet in Ohio. The story is that when an Astro was ordered with 4x4 by Jack, the new van was shipped directly from GM to Quigley Motors who did the conversion. The van was then dropped shipped directly to the dealer. This was the only way that GM would honor the warranty. I was told by Quigley that there were only 12 Astros done this way from the factory and this one one of them. You can call Quigley and give them the vin number to verify. I absolutely love this van and hate to part with it but as a daily driver the time and attention it deserves as a true classic is more then I am able to keep up with. WARNING - this van turns heads where ever it goes. People stop me all the time asking where i got it and if its a straight axle. So if you are the winning bidder prepare yourself for all this attention and stopping to explain. I drive this van every day and even take it on vacation. It runs on the beach in the mud and snow with ease. When the GM rear went up years ago I replaced it with a 9" Posi rear so all 4 wheels are the same lug pattern (ford).  I have a mountain of paperwork from Quigley and from maintenance and repairs over the years. Most recently - new fuel tank, new sending unit with pump, new AC compressor and condenser, R700 Transmission was rebuilt about 4 years ago, both heads were completely rebuilt about 3 years ago, just had both rear freeze plugs replaced last month, all rocker panels were replaced last year, new water pump last year, new power steering pump last year. Most of the problems with the van are not serious see the list above. The biggest problems shes having is RUST! I have been trying to keep up with the body rust. She is also developing frame rust that will soon need attention (see pictures). If you have any questions or need more photos feel free to ask.
NOTE: this auction does not include the fishing rods or rod holders inside and on the front in one of the photos.

GM takes heat for aborted Silverado riff on 'Boston Strong' at World Series

Thu, 31 Oct 2013

During game five of the World Series, Chevrolet was set to do a spot of marketing for the 2014 Silverado - fans at Busch Stadium in St. Louis would hold up placards that spelled out the words "Silverado Strong," a theme that Chevy has been promoting since the Silverado's launch with the song "Strong," by Will Hoge. The St. Louis promo was ultimately called off, though, over concerns that it'd be insensitive to the visiting Boston Red Sox. (You can see the image of what the stunt would have looked like above, courtesy of one timely Reddit user.)
Now, the Busch Stadium stunt might not have been a big deal, had the St. Louis Cardinals not been playing the Boston Red Sox. Following the tragic events in Boston during the marathon back in April, the phrase "Boston Strong" gained traction among the city's citizens, especially at sporting events. So, you can imagine that Chevy's appropriation of the phrase might not sit well with some fans.
The stunt was ultimately shelved after images of the signs went viral before the game, leading to a bit of a public backlash. Chevy spokesperson Michael Albano said of the promo that it was meant to show the brand's "commitment to baseball and its fans." But after the images went viral, the company "realized there was the possibility that we may offend some of the very fans we were trying to honor," Albano told Automotive News via email.

GM throttles back Chevy Malibu, Buick LaCrosse production over swollen inventories

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

As inventory of the Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse continues to pile up, General Motors will be idling its Fairfax Assembly Plant for two weeks, according to Automotive News. This move comes about a month after the plant was shut down for three weeks in late December and early January for the same reason. As of January 31, the GM had a 94-day supply of Malibu stock while the LaCrosse was a little worse with a 117-day supply.
Just last week, GM announced that it would be investing $600 million in upgrading this plant, but it's unclear what future plans the company has in store for Fairfax considering slow sales of both the plant's models. We do expect a refreshed and more luxurious LaCrosse shortly and an early design update for the Malibu to be announced at some point this year, although we have had no official word as to when either will happen.

GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable

Fri, 21 Sep 2012

General Motors is recalling some 426,240 sedans that may have a faulty transmission shift cable, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report this morning. The recall concerns a fault within four-speed automatic transmissions equipped on 2007-2010 Saturn Aura models, and 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 models.
The report specifies that tabs on the transmission shift cable may fracture and separate. Such a fault could cause a discrepancy between the actual position of the transmission and the apparent position of the shift lever.
GM is currently working to notify owners of the vehicles in question, and dealers will check and replace shift cables free of charge. Scroll down to read the complete NHTSA report.
