This is a great car.  This is a rust free Central Texas car that has never lived outside the county in which it was originally bought.  More about that later.  This car has the original 6 cylinder with factory markings still visible on the firewall.  There are oil change stickers on the car that go back to the mid 1970's.  The original spare is in the trunk and the original jacking instructions are still on the jack.  The chrome is original and very nice for its age.  There is a little delamination of the original glass, but not much.  This is the MOST DEPENDABLE old car I have ever owned, and that is of a couple of dozen cars.  When none of my other cars would start, including modern cars, this one would.  Put a little gas in the carb if it has been sitting a while and she will start right up.  Oil pressure is good and the car runs cool.  This Chevy will cruise all day at 60 mph.  When I bought the car almost 10 years ago it had been sitting in a barn for several years and the brakes were out.  The gas tank had also been replaced, I assume to get it running.  I fixed the brakes and rebuilt the Powerglide transmission and have had no problems mechanically since.  It does have a small leak at the rear main, but not bad enough to pull the engine.  I just add a quart every couple of thousand miles.  As you can see by the mileage the car has never been driven much.

The original paint started flaking off pretty badly and so I had to repaint the car.  This new paint is the original color and looks great.  There are a few chips in the paint, (see photos), but it is excellent driver quality.  The car had a dent at the passenger side turn indicator that I fixed and rechromed when the car was painted.   I have radial tires on the car and 4 mounted WWW bias ply tires go with the car.  The trunk mat is new as is the trunk cardboard.  I replaced the vacuum wiper with a 6v electric wiper motor and the original vacuum wiper motor and control knob go with the car.  Owner's manuals and Shop Manual go with the car.  The interior is all original.  There is one small hole in the front seat--see picture--as well a small hole in the rear of the front seat--see picture.  There is a place just above the front seat adjustment that has torn from age.  The headliner is complete and yellowed with age.  The door panels are very nice and show some age spots that don't show up well on the pictures.  The paint on the dash and the interior chrome is very nice as are the sun visors.  The AM radio was not working when I bought the car and I had it fixed.  It worked for several years and then went out again.  I didn't fix it because there were no AM stations I wanted to listen to.  It hums now, but that's it.

This car was originally bought in Belton Texas by an elderly couple and sold out of their estate in the early 1970's.  This elderly couple had bought the car with only 2 options on it:  the Powerglide transmission and the cheaper radio (it has no push buttons).  The car changed hands 3 times through 2 owners who never transferred title and then was sold to a Viet Nam fighter pilot veteran in a town 10 miles away.  Shortly after buying the car, this gentleman had a heart attack and his kids forbade him from driving again so he put it in a barn where it sat for over a decade.  He eventually sold the car to a fellow who did not transfer title.  I was the next owner.  Of the 4 prior owners, I have spoken to 2 of them as well as descendants of the original owners.

This is a fabulous car to get into the hobby.  There is next to nothing to do to the car except drive and enjoy, and it will get you there.  It is DEPENDABLE!!

Good luck bidding and remember:  An old car is just that--it is not new.  There are no warranties expressed or implied.  I will be more than happy to answer any questions, but I will be in the wilds of the trans-Pecos area of Texas over the Labor Day holiday.  No telephone coverage, no internet!  The middle of nowhere!  I'll be back Monday evening and will answer all questions then.

Chevrolet Captiva looks mildly refreshed and ready for family duty

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

We showed you Chevrolet's major debut yesterday, the 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible, but General Motors is making a big push for Bowtie consideration in Europe, so it's also introducing the updated Captiva crossover here at the Geneva Motor Show.
While still based on the same platform as North America's fleet-only Captiva Sport (which is effectively a rebadged Saturn Vue), the Captiva is available in both five- and seven-seat iterations, and it looks far more modern. That's particularly the case with this updated model, which features revamped front- and rear ends that include restyled bumpers, grilles and LED taillamps, among other changes.
As before, the midsize Theta-platform CUV will be available in both front- and all-wheel drive, and is expected to carry a range of four- and six-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines. Important US programming note: Chevrolet sources tell us that America's Captiva Sport will not receive these updates.

GM won't sell 2014 Chevrolet SS in Canada

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

Allow us to be the first to extend our condolences to our friends to the north. General Motors has announced the 2014 Chevrolet SS will not be available in Canada. The Globe and Mail reports the automaker has confirmed the high-performance sedan won't hit Canadian dealers, though GM hasn't offered up any reasoning as to why that is.
Buyers here in the US of A, meanwhile, can look forward to getting their hands on the 415-horspower, rear-wheel drive SS by late summer. Something tells us it won't be long after that before Canadian officials start seeing individually imported 6.2-liter V8 four-doors in their neighborhoods. Fortunately, Canadian buyers will still be able to take home the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. The C7 bowed at the Canadian International Auto Show last week, reportedly drawing sizable crowds and interest.

Callaway debuts its new C7 Stingray at National Corvette Museum

Fri, 02 May 2014

Callaway showed off its first tuned version of the 2014 Corvette Stingray at the National Corvette Museum last week, giving the rampant enthusiasts of America's sports car a look at the roughly 620-horsepower, supercharged rocket.
Unlike the Corvette SC610 we showed you back in January, this Stingray packs a fair bit more oomph. Horsepower is only up ten ponies, but torque has jumped from 556 pound-feet to "at least" 600 pound-feet. Neither horsepower nor torque is official quite yet, although Callaway is expecting to know just what its creation can do once testing and validation is completed later this month.
The 6.2-liter, supercharged V8 now boasts a new, three-element intercooler, which Callaway claims only allowed the inlet air temperature to increase by ten degrees Fahrenheit during dyno runs. Previous designs saw a 35-degree-Fahrenheit jump. The exhaust system has also been fettled with, and now is even less restrictive.
