For Sale - 1956 Chevy Nomad. The body of this car has been completely disassembled inside and out. The hood, front fenders, doors and tailgate have been media blasted to bare metal and primed. These panels were temporarily bolted on to take pictures. The roof is about 75% stripped by chemical stripping. I cut out the original floor from the seam at the firewall to the seam in front of the shock mounts. I installed a 1 piece floor but it's not not welded in. It has been screwed together at the flanges with tech screws. This new floor has integral inner rocker panels. New outer rocker panels were installed at the same time. It will need some metal work to fit the floor to the side walls at the rear seat area. I chose not to get any welding done because I think that the body should go to media blast then primed and fitted again before final welding. The passenger side quarter panel was replaced at some time but it doesn't look like a good job and it will have to be done again. There was a ton of bondo there.  The drivers side was not as extensive as the passenger side and should be able to be reworked. I have 2 quarter panels from a 4 door wagon, no rot, that I had media blasted and primed if needed. I do not have any interior door panels, kick panels headliner etc. I took pictures to show the parts in groups of interior trim, exterior trim, bumpers , etc. I have all of the trim parts except the scripts for the quarter panels and tailgate. I have more pictures of the exterior window and door trim and can take more pictures of anything that you want to see. I have the seat springs for the bottom and back of the rear seat but there is no front seat. There is a complete front bumper and only the center section of the rear bumper.  The motor is a 283c.i. out of a 58 chevy. It has a rebuilt powerglide. The frame is in great condition, very clean, no rust. It has 2" dropped spindles with front disc brakes, most of the brake lines are done. The rear brakes and emergency brake parts inside the drum area are all new. The ball joints are bolted in so they had been replaced at some time. I have all of the glass but only the back glass is good, the rest is cracked and discolored.

Tarantino's stolen Chevy Malibu from Pulp Fiction recovered after 19 years [w/video]

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

Quentin Tarantino fans will likely remember Vincent Vega's cherry 1964 Chevrolet Malibu Convertible in Pulp Fiction. In a movie drenched in automotive references, the Malibu is very nearly a character in and of itself, and it serves as the subject of Vega's soliloquy about the kind of man who vandalizes another's automobile. It also happened to be Tarantino's personal car when the film was shot, and was apparently stolen shortly after production wrapped. Now police have located the car some 19 years later.
As it turns out, the thieves cloned the vehicle identification number from another '64 Malibu and had the car registered under the new digits. It was then sold to an unsuspecting buyer. Police happened upon the duplicate VINs while investigating another potential theft. Right now, it's unclear whether Tarantino has taken possession of the Chevrolet, if it has remained in the possession of the fraud victim, or whether it's caught somewhere in the gears of justice. Either way, you can catch Vega's memorable thoughts on the car keying in the Pulp Fiction clip below. But consider yourself warned: the video contains explicit language as Not Safe For Work as it comes.

Chevy exec confirms SS production model reveal at Daytona on Feb 16

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

The 2014 Chevrolet SS will make its racing debut for the 2013 Daytona 500, but the production version of the car will get its official unveiling on February 16 in Daytona, a week before The Great American Race. According to a report by Automotive News, the reveal has been confirmed by Jim Campbell, Chevy's US vice president of performance and motorsports. With the departure of the Dodge Charger, the new Chevrolet racecar will be the only competitor to feature a V8, rear-wheel-drive layout in both street and NASCAR form.
NASCAR fans will be able to see the new fullsize performance-oriented sedan on display in the festivities leading up to the Daytona 500, but the car won't go on sale until later in the year. The Australian-built Chevy SS will be a low-volume performance model, and it will be priced above the 2014 Impala, which starts at $27,535.

Consumer Reports criticizes small turbo engines for misleading performance, fuel economy claims [w/video]

Tue, 05 Feb 2013

Consumer Reports has taken aim at at small-displacement, forced-induction engines, saying the powerplants don't manage to deliver on automaker fuel economy claims. Manufacturers have long held that smaller, turbocharged engines pack all power of their larger displacement cousins with significantly better fuel economy, but the research organization says that despite scoring high EPA economy numbers, the engines are no better than conventional drivetrains in both categories. Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, says the forced induction options "are often slower and less fuel efficient than larger four and six-cylinder engines."
Specifically, CR calls out the new Ford Fusion equipped with the automaker's Ecoboost 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The institute's researchers found the engine, which is a $795 option over the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, fails to match competitors in acceleration and served up 25 miles per gallon in testing, putting the sedan dead last among other midsize options.
The Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Sonata Turbo and Ford Escape 2.0T all got dinged for the same troubles, though Consumer Reports has found the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the BMW 328i does deliver on its promises. You can check out the full press release below. You can also read the full study on the Consumer Reports site, or scroll down for a short video recap.
