56 1956 Chevrolet 210 Series 4 Door Sedan Unrestored Original Rat Rod Project on 2040-cars

This is a '56 Chevy 4 door 210 series sedan.  If you have been looking for an affordable Tri-five that isn't a complete basket case, then this could be what you are looking for.  This one does run and I have driven it around the yard, but I don't have it tagged.  Even though it runs, it does have some mechanical gremlins that need to be fixed before it could be put back on the road.  It doesn't idle and I have to feather the gas to keep it running.  I think that may be a problem in the carburetor, but I don't know much about carburetors, so I haven't been able to fix it.  The generator isn't charging and the exhaust needs to be replaced.  But, I have already completed a lot of the mechanical work.  Here is a list of the new parts I have already put on the car - the gas tank, fuel lines, all the brake lines (metal and rubber), all 4 wheel cylinders, master cylinder, spark plugs, coil, wires, and oil filter.  I also bought and install the rat rod style red rims and white walls.  The white walls have very few miles on them.  The rims are off of a '55 Chevy, so they would be the same as the stock '56 wheels.  It has the typical rust that the '56s get.  The front floor boards are gone and the trunk pan needs to be replaced but that is common for an unrestored '56 that hasn't been garage kept.  It has some other rust areas too, but I think they could be fixed with just some body filler.  This being a 4 door, it probably isn't economically feasible to do a full restoration, but for around $2,000 in additional work, this could be turned into a nice rat rod just by fixing the mechanical gremlins, installing the floor/trunk pans, and spraying on a coat of semi-flat black then just drive it.  That was what I was going to do with it, but then I bought the Nomad in the back ground and decided to restore it instead.  It has a clear North Carolina title.  If you would like to examine the car in person and hear it run, feel free to contact me.

Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. See for yourself in our image gallery above.

Chevy Camaro is a good sport, wishes Ford Mustang Happy 50th

Tue, 15 Apr 2014

It was 1966 when Chevrolet launched its challenger to the wildly successful Ford Mustang, the Camaro. While the competition between the two brands was already healthy, the arrival of the Camaro set off one of the most intense, model-to-model rivalries in the industry.
That competitive spirit hasn't stopped Chevy and the Camaro from wishing Ford's iconic muscle car a Happy 50th Birthday as the Ford's April 17 anniversary rolls around. These two cars have been linked over the years, and while the rivalry took a break for a few years in the 2000s, today's competition between the Camaro and Mustang is as fierce as it's ever been.
You might recall that this friendliness when it comes to major milestones isn't too rare. Ford put on quite a display for General Motors' hundredth anniversary back in 2008. As the Camaro's fiftieth birthday approaches in 2016, we wouldn't be surprised to see the Mustang sending its best wishes to its Bowtie rival.

PickupTrucks.com's latest test results in a familiar winner [w/video]

Wed, 19 Jun 2013

PickupTrucks.com has gone and thrown the latest batch of half-ton pickups into a cage match to see who would come out on top. The site put the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2013 Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan through a battery of tests. Those included 0-60 miles per hour acceleration, 60-0 mph deceleration, fuel economy, a hill climb, and payload and towing. They even threw the rigs on an autocross course to evaluate overall handling. Each truck was given points based on how it scored in each evaluation.
Who came out on top? Somewhat surprisingly, the 2013 Ford F-150 walked away with the gold, though fewer than 50 points separated first and fourth place. Head over to PickupTrucks.com to read the full evaluation and the final results. You may be shocked to see exactly where some of the segment's newest additions placed. You can also watch a video on the test below.
