This 1969 Camaro is highly modifed all the way around. A subframe from a 2nd Generation Camaro has been swapped in for improved suspension geometry, braking, and better exhaust to steering box clearance. The floor has been reinforced, and the car effectively has a full frame, making it much stronger than the typical convertible body. The rearend is a 9" Ford with Wilwood NASCAR-style disc brakes. The car has a roll bar, and a circle track style fuel cell. The previous owner was planning to race this car in vintage racing classes. It is set up for a manual transmission. There is no engine or transmission included. The vehicle has power 4 wheel disc brakes and power steering, and comes with 16" Chevy rally wheels with flat center caps. A Griffin aluminum radiator (removed when the engine was pulled) is also included.
The car overall is solid, with no rust. This car started out as a coupe, and was made into a convertible using mostly original GM convertible parts. All inner structure for the folding top, the windshield frame and pillars, and all other necessary bracing from the convertible donor was added to this car to create a convertible. A top frame is included, but it does need repair or replacement (rust). Everything fits well, and the car is functionaly the same as any factory-built convertible.
Car is being sold on a "best offer" basis. The car does not have a title (not required in GA), but a bill of sale will be provided. Mileage is unknown. The car is located in Acworth, GA, and is available for inspection during regular business hours Monday-Friday 9am-6pm, or by appointment.

Feds open investigation into Chevy Express, Ford Freestar rust issues
Wed, 28 Dec 2011'Tis the season... for road salt. And with that, comes rust. And what does rust bring? Well, for Ford and General Motors, a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. According to The Detroit News, NHTSA is looking into potential recalls issues with Chevrolet Express vans and Ford Freestar minivans.
The feds have received five complaints that rust has caused leaking fuel filler pipes on 2003 Express vans. Separately, seven complaints have been filed over excessive rust in the rear wheel wells of 2004 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans. The Freestar and Monterey went out of production in 2007. Neither issue has resulted in any crashes or injuries, according to the report.
2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette wastes no time zooming into Jay Leno's Garage
Thu, 24 Jan 2013Where else would you expect the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to show up first? Although this time it isn't exactly in Jay Leno's Garage, Leno instead playing an away game at Brown's Classic Auto in Scottsdale, Arizona. Nor does Leno drive the car, instead taking an 11-minute walkaround of the new American sports car with General Motors design head Ed Welburn, the same man who recently brought by a string of classic Corvettes to the talk show host's California compound.
It is, admittedly, a love-fest for the American sports car now featuring 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, but one that also features admissions about previous Corvette seats like "they were kinda rough," and the explanation that labeling the coupe "Stingray" means not having to call it "the base Corvette." On top of that, Welburn also explains the proper application of the term "dashboard." You can watch it all in the video below.
Consumer Reports criticizes small turbo engines for misleading performance, fuel economy claims [w/video]
Tue, 05 Feb 2013Consumer Reports has taken aim at at small-displacement, forced-induction engines, saying the powerplants don't manage to deliver on automaker fuel economy claims. Manufacturers have long held that smaller, turbocharged engines pack all power of their larger displacement cousins with significantly better fuel economy, but the research organization says that despite scoring high EPA economy numbers, the engines are no better than conventional drivetrains in both categories. Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, says the forced induction options "are often slower and less fuel efficient than larger four and six-cylinder engines."
Specifically, CR calls out the new Ford Fusion equipped with the automaker's Ecoboost 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The institute's researchers found the engine, which is a $795 option over the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, fails to match competitors in acceleration and served up 25 miles per gallon in testing, putting the sedan dead last among other midsize options.
The Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Sonata Turbo and Ford Escape 2.0T all got dinged for the same troubles, though Consumer Reports has found the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the BMW 328i does deliver on its promises. You can check out the full press release below. You can also read the full study on the Consumer Reports site, or scroll down for a short video recap.
