1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO

327 / 210 hp TH350 (LF7)

Intact Protect - o - Plate and warranty card, original dealer invoice, owners manual, dry cleaning receipt found beneath seat, bill of sale from the transfer to the second owner, cam spec card, paint info, clear Mass title.

Please note : This is a 10 day auction that ends Sunday evening June 16th. To be fair to all bidders I intend to let this auction run for the full duration. I have about 90 pictures of the car, eBay allows only 24 to be posted. Please don't hesitate to ask for more. I can send them by phone.

Up for your consideration today is a two owner 1969 Camaro that was purchased by a friend of mine in the fall of '03. He purchased it from the original owner who bought it from Shapiro Chevrolet in North Adams, Mass. on November 19, 1968 for $3430.00. In her 35 years of ownership the car was garaged at her residence in North Adams. During this time period the car was driven 93,068 miles. On October 28, 2003 my friend purchased the car from her and drove it occasionally during the summer months for the next several years. The original engine and transmission were tired and he had them rebuilt during this time period. His engine builder scrapped the original small valve heads and used a fresh set of early nineties centerbolt swirl port heads and a 4 bbl aluminum dual plane intake. The original 2.73 rear end was swapped for a 3.07 and eventually sold. In the winter of 2010 he decided to restore the car in a Z/28 like fashion as a tribute car. This is when the car was painted and the remainder of the mechanicals were updated. At this point the car had approximately 95,800 miles.

 The mechanical improvements include -

     Power front disk brakes
Multi-leaf rear springs and gas shocks
Dual exhaust with headers, "H" or crossover pipe, mild sounding mufflers and 1/4 exit tail pipes
Cowl induction with solenoid activated flapper and complete air cleaner assembly
Holley 670 vacuum secondary carb with no choke
     HEI ignition
     New radiator

The aesthetic improvements include -

New Dupont base / clear paint with stripes added. I would consider it nice driver quality not a show finish.
     Cowl induction hood
     Z/28 & 302 Emblems
15" Rally wheels with center caps and trim rings. 225/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial TA tires

The car currently has 96,401 miles. Less than 700 miles on restoration. I purchased the car in January of 2012 and put only a few miles on it in my neighborhood. Since I bought the car I have replaced the battery and voltage regulator.
Overall the car is clean and presentable. The paint still looks fresh and has a nice deep shine. The interior is clean and shows little sign of wear. The engine compartment is neat and nicely detailed. If I were to be critical of the car I would have gapped the doors tighter to the rear quarters and brought the nose in a bit further.

Here are some of the specifics -

VIN# 124379N513810  Early production 13,810 Camaro built at the Norwood plant.

TRIM TAG reads as follows :

     ST 69 12437 NOR120482 BDY

     TH       716             53    B

           09D

53 is Glacier Blue. 716 is Deluxe Dark Blue Interior. 09D represents the production period 4th week September 1968.

The engine block casting number is 3932386 and is dated H 20 8 or August 20, 1968.
The front pad on the engine contains no data. I have tried to locate the vin on the rough cast area of the block near the oil filter but have not had any luck. I have the original intake manifold casting number 3927183 dated August 12, 1968 as well as the 2 bbl 2 Jet carb, distributor, coil, air cleaner and valve covers. They are all included, as well as the 14" Firestone biased ply spare.

The engine rebuild included being bored .030 over. Stock type pistons. Rebuilt 64cc swirl port heads. Blue Racer Cam with advertised duration of 284*  218 @ .050 with 110* lobe separation and gross lift of .450 on I and E. Stamped rocker arms. New oil pump, pick up and pan. Water and fuel pump are new as well.

The transmission is the original TH350 numbered Y9P26N.

The original 2.73 rear has been replaced with a 3.07 open 10 bolt.

The electricals are all in working order including the key buzzer and fuel gauge. -
The lights are all operational low, high, directionals, parking lamps, markers, tails, interior courtesy lamps. etc.
     Wipers and washers function normally
     Horn is good and loud
The AM radio is in the dash but doesn't work

The power steering functions as it should. Smooth and quite with no squeaks.

The brakes are very strong. I have never attempted to use the parking brake. Please assume that it does not work as these older GM's are somewhat notorious for the cable hanging up in the housing if they are not regularly used.

The car starts easily with a couple pumps of the accelerator. It is a bit cold blooded for a minute or two due to not having a choke. Once warmed up to operating temperature it runs well. It is a little soft down low but could likely be cleared up by a timing adjustment and carb tuning. It may also benefit from a smaller carb. The idle is strong and lopey while in gear. The transmission shifts are crisp.

Overall the car is mild mannered and street-able. It is geared to run comfortably on the highway. The exhaust note is relatively low and quite. It sounds good outside of the car with no drone or resonance inside. This combination of engine build, gearing etc. makes for a good daily driver that would probably be fairly efficient.

There is currently no kickdown cable. I will order one and include it with the sale. It will most likely not be installed by the time the car sells. This past weekend I replaced the aging rubber line that transitions the short fuel line from the tank to the primary line. While doing so I managed to fatigue the main line at the first clip that retains it to the frame rail. It is a minor leak that could probably be remedied by lengthening the rubber tubing to sleeve over it but I already have a 3/8" replacement  line from In-Line tube that I had for another car. I will include the new line to make it right. The only other thing that I can think of is that one of the header collectors just touches the transmission crossmember. It creates a noise and vibration when the engine is cold at idle and also at a certain cruising rpm. This should be clearanced a little bit more to prevent the noise.

On a closing note this car is located in Pittsfield, Mass. 01201. The winning bidder is responsible for arranging pick up and all costs related to shipping. Please note that this vehicle is being sold with no warranty written, expressed or implied. A $500.00 non refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of auctions end. The balance is due within 7 days. The title and vehicle will not be released until the funds clear and my bank says it is ok to do so. I hold a clear Mass title for the car.

Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.

Chevy Sonic shreds like a skateboard

Tue, 19 Mar 2013

Despite the fact that the 2013 Chevy Sonic is a fun, plucky little thing - especially in ever-so-slightly hotter RS guise - it is not, in fact, a skateboard. But don't tell that to rapper Theophilus London.
In General Motors' latest spot for the Chevrolet compact, London needs to make a quick run to the store for some milk. And even though, once again, the Sonic is not a skateboard, it ollies, pops and gets air because, you know, it's just so much fun to throw around.
If this video looks familiar to you, it's because this is the full ad that we first got a preview of in Chevy's longer, full-line spot, where the brand's "Find New Roads" tagline was introduced. Scroll down to see this dedicated Sonic spot, along with the older ad, and remember, the Sonic is still - still - not a skateboard.

Artist imagines eerie world where cars have no wheels

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

The wheel ranks right up there with the telescope and four-slice toaster in the pantheon of inventions that have moved humankind forward. But what if a circle in three dimensions had never occurred to anyone, and we all had just moved on without it? Perhaps we'd be driving around in Lucas Motors Landspeeders with anti-gravity engines. Or maybe we'd have the same cars we do today, just without wheels.
That's the thought experiment that seems to have led French photographer Renaud Marion to create his six-image series called Air Drive. The shots depict cars throughout many eras of motoring that look normal except for one thing: they have no wheels. The models used include a Jaguar XK120, Cadillac DeVille (shown above), Chevrolet El Camino and Camaro, and Mercedes-Benz SL and 300 roadsters.
Perhaps one day when our future becomes our past, you'll be able to walk the street and see with your own eyes the rust and patina of age on our nation's fleet of floating cars. Until then, Monsieur Marion's photographs will have to do.

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible is the track car for sun worshippers

Fri, 11 Apr 2014

Supercharged, 6.2-liter V8? Check. Seven-speed manual? Check. Obsession with weight? Check.
What did you expect when Chevrolet said it was bringing a new Corvette variant to the 2014 New York Auto Show? Maybe a sticker and trim package, like the C6 Corvette Grand Sport or a tie-in deal like the Black Widow car from Chicago? On the opposite end, maybe there was an even more hardcore Z06 waiting in the wings. Who knew?
