1985 Iroc-Z convertible 2 seater. It was converted by Auto Form when the car was new. It has a hard rear lid that covers the area over where the back seats were. It has a 350 TPI engine that was swapped in at some point. It looks like a factory engine install and they also installed all the right emblems for the 5.7 engine. The soft top is attached to the factory hard top and has an apron that snaps top the deck lid. It doesn't have any rot, some surface rust by the passenger side door handle. It does have a dent on the driver side rear panel that is in one of the pics. The nose cone has a groove across it diagonally. It looks like a guide wire from a telephone pole. I know the guy who had it before my slid off the road in a snow storm and I would guess this is from that. No damage to anything structurally, but looks cosemetic on the plastic and a small puck on the hood, also shown in a picture. It needs the bushings in the rear suspension replaced because when you put it in reverse the control arms bang up sometimes. The engine could use a tune up, but starts and runs good. It needs the valve cover gaskets replaced from sitting. Runs and drives, but wouldn't advise planning on driving it far until it is gone though mechanically. I have had it for 12 years and have stored it for the past ten. I would expect to restore the car, but it could be driven with some work. It also needs the steering column rebuilt. The tilt mechanism is loose and I had it tightened up when I first got the car. One of only 500 converted by Auto Form. Looks like the batmobile with the top down. Just too many projects, so this one is going. I do reserve the right to end the auction early as it is also listed locally.

Hurst Edition Trans Am proves the Screaming Chicken will rise from the ashes

Wed, 31 Oct 2012

It seems the Pontiac Trans Am steadfastly refuses to die. Ever since Chevrolet was granted a retrofied Camaro to compete with the Ford Mustang, Pontiac lovers have lamented the loss of this 1970s icon. And, looking at the Hurst Edition from Trans Am Depot, shown here at the 2012 SEMA Show, may explain what all the fuss is about.
It's not going to appeal to everyone's muscle-car tastes, but there's certainly room for a brash-and-bold black-and-gold Special Edition in many a Trans Am lover's garage. After all, if you want the keys to a custom pony car, you'll certainly get noticed in this one. If this scheme isn't your bag,, you can alternatively order your Hurst Edition in white and gold or silver and black. Oh, and don't forget a color-coordinated Screaming Chicken on the hood.
No matter which way you choose to go, your inner Burt Reynolds will appreciate the Eibach suspension kit, forged wheels with Pirelli PZero tires, functional shaker hood, fender air extractors, rear spoiler and, of course, a Hurst shifter inside. The interior is emblazoned with all manner of special touches, including a Hurst dash plate and T/A stitching on the Katzkin two-tone leather seats.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible headed for Geneva debut

Mon, 28 Jan 2013

While most of the world is still coming down from all the hype surrounding the debut of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this month, we're already looking to the future. And according to Autoweek, the next chapter in the C7 story will unfold at the Geneva Motor Show in March. That's right, General Motors is reportedly using the Swiss stage as its venue to debut the Corvette Stingray convertible.
If this strikes you as odd, you aren't alone. After all, with a car that's such an American icon, we'd fully expect Chevrolet to unveil it here on our shores in either Chicago or New York. But according to Autoweek, GM is looking to boost export sales of its halo car, and since the C7 was engineered to compete with the world's best and brightest, showing it off in Geneva is somewhat of a smart move. What's more, those with sharp memories will recall that GM used the Geneva expo to debut the sixth-generation C6 Corvette convertible back in March 2004, so there's also a precedent.
Details surrounding the Corvette Stingray convertible are still slim, though we fully expect the 6.2-liter V8 and choice of either six-speed automatic or seven-speed manual transmissions to carry over unchanged. Prototypes spotted on the road showed the car fitted with a cloth convertible roof, as well.

GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable

Fri, 21 Sep 2012

General Motors is recalling some 426,240 sedans that may have a faulty transmission shift cable, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report this morning. The recall concerns a fault within four-speed automatic transmissions equipped on 2007-2010 Saturn Aura models, and 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 models.
The report specifies that tabs on the transmission shift cable may fracture and separate. Such a fault could cause a discrepancy between the actual position of the transmission and the apparent position of the shift lever.
GM is currently working to notify owners of the vehicles in question, and dealers will check and replace shift cables free of charge. Scroll down to read the complete NHTSA report.
