OFFERED IS MY 1995 CHEVROLET CAPRICE CLASSIC WAGON THAT I HAVE OWNED FOR THE LAST 5 OR 6 YEARS AND HAVE PUT THE LAST 90000 MILES ON OR SO.

VEHICLE IS LOCATED AT MY HOME IN MYERSVILLE MARYLAND ZIP CODE 21773.  I'M ABOUT 2 MILES OFF OF INTERSTATE 70.  IF YOU NEED TIME TO ARRANGE PICKUP OR SHIPPING,  I CAN STORE THE CAR FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS, BUT YOU MUST MAIL PAYMENT IMMEDIATELY.   IF YOU OPT TO PICK UP IN PERSON, PAYMENT MUST BE IN GREEN CASH.  NO CHECKS, IOU'S, NO CREDIT CARDS AND NO PAYPAL EXCEPT FOR THE DEPOSIT.  YOU ARE WELCOME TO DRIVE THE CAR BEFORE PAYMENT TO CONFIRM ALL OF MY INFORMATION ABOUT THE RIDE ETC. ETC.

HERE IS THE BASIC STORY ON THE CAR:

WHILE I BELIEVE THAT YOU COULD DRIVE THIS WAGON FROM MARYLAND TO CALIFORNIA WITHOUT ANY BREAK DOWN CONCERNS OR PROBLEMS, THE FACT IS THAT THE CAR NEEDS SOME WORK.  FOR THE FIRST FEW YEARS THAT I OWNED IT, IT WAS A GREAT CAR THAT DIDN'T NEED MANY MECHANICAL REPAIRS.  HOWEVER, IT SEEMED LIKE AROUND 120,000 OR SO, IT WAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT EVERY MONTH .  MOSTLY SMALL STUFF LIKE HUBS, WHEEL BEARINGS, WINDOW REGULATOR, ALTERNATORS, STARTER AND THAT SORT OF THING.  BUT THEN THE WATER PUMP LEAKED WHICH TOOK OUT THE OPTISPARK A FEW  WEEKS LATER AND THE REPAIRS BECAME MORE EXPENSIVE.  AFTER THE WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT AND THE OPTISPARK REPLACEMENT I DECIDED THAT I NEEDED A NEW RIDE.  I ORDERED A NEW TRUCK BUILT THE WAY I WANTED IT AND ABOUT A WEEK LATER THE TRANSMISSION  WENT BAD ON THE WAGON.  $2500 LATER FOR THE JASPER TRANSMISSION AND  INSTALLATION, I MADE A DEAL WITH MY WIFE THAT I WOULDN'T INVEST ANY MORE SIGNIFICANT MONEY IN THE CAR AFTER MY TRUCK WAS DELIVERED.  THAT WAS ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO OR SO.  SINCE THEN, WHEN LITTLE THINGS WENT BAD THAT I WOULD HAVE FIXED BEFORE, I JUST PUT A BAND AID ON IT TRYING TO BUY SOME TIME BEFORE SHE HAD TO GO.  NEXT THING I KNEW, THE AC HAD TO BE CHARGED TWICE A SUMMER,  THE ANTENNA ONLY GOES HALF WAY UP,  THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW REGULATOR WENT BAD OR SOMETHINGS IS CAUSING THE WINDOW TO GO DOWN SIDEWAYS IN THE DOOR WHEN YOU TRY TO PUT IT DOWN, THE BRAKES ARE STARTING TO MAKE NOISE IN THE FRONT AND THE MICHELIN X ONES, WHILE HAVING BEEN GREAT TIRES, ARE PRETTY WORN, BUT STILL NOT BALD OR DANGEROUS.  EVERY NOW AND THEN YOU GET AN OIL BURNING SMELL EVEN THOUGH THE REAR MAIN SEAL WAS DONE WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WAS DONE ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO OR LESS.  SO OBVIOUSLY, THERE IS SOME SORT OF LEAK OTHER THAN THE NOW REPLACED REAR MAIN SEAL.  MOST RECENTLY, THE POWER STEERING PUMP STARTED WHINNING, SO I ADDED POWER STEERING FLUID,  ABOUT 500 MILES LATER I NEEDED TO ADD MORE FLUID, THEN MORE FLUID AFTER 300 MILES AND NOW IT PISSES IT OUT ABOUT AS FAST AS I ADD IT INCLUDING THE PRESTONE STOP LEAK FLUID.  I THINK IT NEEDS A NEW PS PUMP BADLY AND I MEAN YESTERDAY,  ALSO,  I PULLED THE DESIGNATED AIR SUSPENSION FUSE BECAUSE WHAT I THINK MUST HAVE BEEN THE SUSPENSION PUMP WAS MAKING GROANING NOISES WHEN I HAD IT LOADED DOWN WITH STUFF IN THE BACK.

IT'S SEEMS STRANGE TO SAY THIS OF AN OLD CAR THAT NEEDS OBVIOUS MULTIPLE REPAIRS, BUT TO ANSWER THE MOST COMMONLY ASK QUESTION REGARDING THIS OLD CAR, YES I BELIEVE THIS WILL MAKE IT FROM MY HOME IN MARYLAND TO ANYWHERE YOU WANT TO DRIVE IT INCLUDING AS FAR AS CALIFORNIA.   THE ONLY URGENT ITEM IS THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM WHICH I THINK IS THE PUMP.  THE AC CURRENTLY IS NICE AND COLD, ALL OTHER BUTTONS WORK GREAT INCLUDING SEATS, CLIMATE CONTROL MIRRORS, RADIO ETC. ETC. ETC.  NO WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON AND NO COVER UPS WERE DONE.   I AM PRETTY SURE THE JASPER TRANSMISSION WARRANTY TRANSFERS WITH OWNERSHIP OF THE CAR.  I'M NOT KIDDING, WITH THE POWER STEERING PUMP PROBLEM FIXED, I WOULD FEEL SAFE HEADING TO CALIFORNIA FROM MARYLAND TOMORROW.  THE OIL CHANGES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DONE ON TIME OR USUALLY A LITTLE EARLY.  IN FACT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO I HAD THE OIL CHANGE DONE, NEW AIR FILTER AND WIPER BLADES INSTALLED.  IT DRIVES SMOOTH AND STRAIGHT AND DOESN'T PULL AT ALL.  HAS GREAT POWER AND I'VE ADDED 44K EVERY 15,000 MILES OR SO FOR YEARS.

THE CAR HAS BEEN OUTSIDE FOR 99% OF IT'S LIFE AND HAS RUST ON THE LEFT REAR AS MANY OF THESE WAGONS WILL.   IT ALSO  HAS SCUFFS AND SCRATCHES ALL OVER THE PLACE FROM 155,000 AND NEARLY 20 YEARS OF USE.  THE MILEAGE LISTED WILL BE "AND COUNTING" BECAUSE I DO STILL DRIVE THE CAR.

ANYWAY, THERE YOU HAVE IT , $1000 AND NO RESERVE OR $1300 BUY IT NOW.   I THINK THE HUB CAPS ALONE SELL FOR $100 ON EBAY AND THE NOW TWO YEAR OLD TRANS WAS $1500-$2000 NOT INCLUDING INSTALLATION.   SO, MAYBE THIS CAN BE A PARTS CAR IF YOU DON'T WANT TO FIX IT?  OF COURSE, YOU CAN JUST DO WHAT I'VE DONE FOR YEARS AND THAT IS AVOID PUTTING THE PASSENGER WINDOW DOWN, LIVE WITH THE HALF UP ANTENNA WHICH STILL GETS GOOD RECEPTION, CHARGE THE AC TWICE A YEAR ETC. ETC I THINK THE SCRAP VALUE IS $500 OR MORE BASED ON THE WEIGHT, I JUST THINK IT'S STILL WORTH MORE THAN JUST SCRAP.

SORRY ABOU ALL THE TYPING MISTAKES AND GRAMMER MISTAKES.  IT'S LATE AND I'M TIRED.

ONE LAST THING.   THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN SMOKED IN AND I THINK I'M THE SECOND OWNER.  IT HAD EITHER 59 OR 69 K WENT I BOUGHT IT FROM THE ESTATE OF AN OLD FELLA THAT DIED.

Consumer Reports criticizes small turbo engines for misleading performance, fuel economy claims [w/video]

Tue, 05 Feb 2013

Consumer Reports has taken aim at at small-displacement, forced-induction engines, saying the powerplants don't manage to deliver on automaker fuel economy claims. Manufacturers have long held that smaller, turbocharged engines pack all power of their larger displacement cousins with significantly better fuel economy, but the research organization says that despite scoring high EPA economy numbers, the engines are no better than conventional drivetrains in both categories. Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, says the forced induction options "are often slower and less fuel efficient than larger four and six-cylinder engines."
Specifically, CR calls out the new Ford Fusion equipped with the automaker's Ecoboost 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The institute's researchers found the engine, which is a $795 option over the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, fails to match competitors in acceleration and served up 25 miles per gallon in testing, putting the sedan dead last among other midsize options.
The Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Sonata Turbo and Ford Escape 2.0T all got dinged for the same troubles, though Consumer Reports has found the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the BMW 328i does deliver on its promises. You can check out the full press release below. You can also read the full study on the Consumer Reports site, or scroll down for a short video recap.

Watch NASCAR racer Jeff Gordon put one over on a used car dealer... sorta

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Full Disclosure: in my younger days, I loved nothing more than tormenting passengers with my behind-the-wheel hijinks. Once, after a particularly artful handbrake turn on a two-lane at around 50 miles per hour, I left one backseat occupant crying in their own lap. This isn't necessarily something to be proud of, but it gives you a glimpse into why it is that I find this ad from Pepsi so damn disappointing. The premise is beautiful. Take NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon, give him a disguise and set him loose upon some unsuspecting used car dealer. Hilarity ensues.
Except that this Pepsi Max commercial is so obviously staged, it can't help but feel like some ham-fisted marketing fail. From the strategically placed aftermarket cupholder mounted mid-dash for the hidden camera to the fact that the supposed dealer Camaro is displayed as a 2009 model (Hint: Chevrolet didn't make any), this clip is about as organic as a Twinkie. Still, we would never turn down a chance to watch Gordon thrash on a rental-spec coupe - only problem is, he probably didn't even do the driving himself. Check it out below.

Why the Corvette is Chevrolet's billion-dollar baby

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Edmunds has worked up a piece that tries to figure out just how much the global Chevrolet Corvette economy is worth, a spitballed guesstimate putting the number at more than $2.5 billion with the proviso that the number is probably low. It starts by taking Corvette's new car sales of 14,132 units last year, which would equate to $714,725,900 (including destination) assuming ever car sold was a base coupe with no options. In the final tally, a little extra padding gets that number up to $750,000,000.
But that's not all. Consider this: Many of the almost 1.4 million Corvettes produced over the model's history are still on the road. There are new parts being produced and aftermarket companies like Mid-America Motorworks deaing business, that single Illinois company doing more than $40 million a year in sales. There are the Corvette events large and small, restorers who do nothing but Corvettes, salvage yards that deal only in used Corvette parts and the Corvette magazines where owners find all this stuff.
And then there are the Corvette-themed tchotchkes, every single one of which provides a tiny contribution to the huge licensing royalties that General Motors collects every year. The article admits there's no way to come to an accurate number, but it just goes to show how valuable one specific model can be to a company.
