You are bidding on a 2010 Chevy Cobalt LT sedan with an Indiana rebuilt title due to minor front end damage incurred when the car had about 13,500 miles on it.  I bought this car for one of my daughters in August, 2011 when it had 13,667 miles from a friend and body shop owner who got it in an insurance company auction--it was a rental car at the time.  The damage was to the front left fender and the bumper fascia, and has been expertly repaired.  My daughter drove it for the 2 year contract she had with Teach for America, but is now accepting a position in Chicago and will no longer need a car, so is "trading it back in" to the Bank of Mom and Dad to offset student loans.  This car now has 47,741 miles on it, and has performed perfectly, as have 2 other insurance auction cars I have bought from the same party.  He is a very reputable person, and does great work.

We have the original window sticker, and this car listed for $18,030 in 2010.  Options included a 4 speed A/T and spare tire and wheel, and the on star and satellite radio were deleted.  The 2.2 liter double overhead cam engine is rated for 24/33 MPG city/highway, and actual mileage has been at least that good. This car has been well maintained and mostly garage kept since we have owned it, and should give the new owner many years of use.  Having said that, it is a used car, and has no warranty of any kind.

Inspections and test drives are welcomed, just give me a call at 219-765-5910.  The car is just south of Crown Point, IN and is about 48 miles south and a little east of the Chicago loop.  If you are looking for a nice, reliable safe car at a good price, I think you will really like this Cobalt.

Feel free to call Mike at 219-765-5910 with any questions!

GM profits threatened by glut of pickups

Wed, 05 Dec 2012

Automotive News reports that General Motors may slash production or ramp up discounts in order to deal with an oversupply of pickup trucks. GM currently has more than double the standard supply of pickups, and the vehicles are threatening to dampen the automaker's profits for 2013. Typically, automakers try to sustain a 60- to 75-day supply of vehicles, but GM is currently loaded with a 139-day supply, as of last month. At the end of November, the automaker was sitting on 245,853 units.
The manufacturer says that it will adjust production accordingly before laying any incentives on the profitable pickups. Even so, there's some concern that the inventory swell could hurt the roll-out of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. GM actually began slowly stepping back production in August, but it's clear the company will take further action as it heads toward the end of the year and into the next. Analysts predict the automaker could reduce pickup manufacturing by nearly half in the first quarter of 2013.
That still may not be enough to keep GM from laying extra cash on the Silverado and GMC Sierra. While the company's incentive spending was down in November compared to the same month in 2011, both the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 saw double-digit percentage increases in sales last month while the Silverado and Sierra numbers slid compared to a year prior. Incentive spending could help move more trucks and add some balance to the GM inventory surge.

Survey says $25k barrier is a problem for EVs

Sun, 01 Dec 2013

The majority of consumers are more or less priced out of the market.
Electric cars are gaining popularity with the general public, but are they still too expensive? According to a survey 1,084 consumers by Navigant Research, a consulting firm located in Boulder, CO, 71 percent want their next car to cost under $25,000, while 41 percent won't go a cent above $20K. Looks like people are even thriftier than we'd originally thought.

GM dealers unhappy about pickup prices

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

The backlash is beginning. Following General Motors' price hike of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra last week, dealers across the country are expressing their ire over increasing prices in the face of rebates and discounts on trucks from Ford and Ram.
Speaking to Automotive News, Sam Pilato, the general manager at Dimmitt Chevrolet in Clearwater, FL, Silverados are "selling very poorly." W. Carrol Smith, the president of Monument Chevrolet in the heart of truck country, Texas, said, "[GM's] position is that the vehicle stands on its own and it doesn't need a bigger rebate. That's not what the market is telling us."
According to AN, that's the general attitude amongst Chevy and GMC dealers across the country, where the twin pickups are getting butchered in sales by competitors offering up to $9,000 off their sticker prices. Part of the problem for GM is that its trucks are arriving on the market near the end of the current F-150's lifecycle, a fact that Ford has taken advantage of.
