1958 Chevrolet corvette-I am the second owner- this was a one owner car that was bought new in September of 1958 in Chicago by a man who lived in kalamazoo Michigan- he wanted a 58 as the 59's were out and he wanted a white with red interior car with the chrome spears on the decklid- Chicago was the only place he could find one. he drove it around Michigan until 1966 when it was parked outside for a year and they moved to the Cincinnati area. .  the next year (1967) they brought it back to cincy and parked it in the barn where it sat for the next 46 years. while it sat outside in Michigan a tree limb punctured the convertible top and the interior suffered some minor damage and wear.  when it was brought home to the new place the right rear bumperette was jammed in to the fiberglass below the trunk when it was run into a beam in the barn (easy fix)  this is the only damage to the body.  in 1977 the son rebuilt the motor in it but never took it out to drive..   the block was replaced by Chevrolet the second winter cause of lack of anti-freeze letting it freeze up and crack. it has a 1961 replacement block in it-  the 2x4's setup(245 horse) was stolen off of it sometime in the year s between 1999 and 2003. so was the distributor and valve covers.it now has an old edelbrock intake and 600 holley and a chev distributor w/pertronix guts and stagger bolt vette valve covers- the car still retains its original 3 speed and it has a posi rear end  (ratio unknown) it has the factory radiator but I did have a new core put in it last year.i always wanted a straight axle early vette and I felt this was the one to do it to. the car could be restored but then its just another boring stocker for the vette people to pick apart- the body and gaps and fit of the car is really nice- the straight axle is a jokerr  fabricating  item and uses the stock 58 spindles and brakes which are all new and rebuilt with  all new lines and dual master cylinder. it has a vega steering box and actually drives nice and rides decent (drives better than stock front end)  I didn't do anything underneath from the cowl back so it is still crusty and has cob webs and stuff but that is the way I intended. you can park this car next to a ncrs concourse vette and its gonna piss off the owner of it when they are leanin on his car to look at this one. its dirty and paint fallin off but that's why I did it as you cant buy or produce patina like this- this is by the way the original paint on the car- the interior is original except the seat cushions were shot so these are redone on foam- the springs were shot- I have material to do the backrests if needed.-fuel-amp-oil pressure gauges work- tach doesn't(needs new cable) and speedo is noisy but works (needs greased??)heater is in it- disconnected ?? car is a factory radio delete so it has the original delete plate and no ignition shielding- it has a 58 hardtop but it has a 59 rear glass in it and the soft top framework is in under the deck- it has no canvas as I  removed it- it does fold ok the trunk has no latch and the hood support is missing and the cables for the hood releases are froze up . it has no emergency brake- the turn signals don't work- the horn works the relay but the horn doesn't blow- hi beams have old t-3 bulbs but they don't work- running and brake lights are ok this car runs and drives fine - I think it needs a wild ass motor in it but I kind of like it as is. the fenderwell headers exit through turbo mufflers that exit at the rear end housing .the wheels are rare American racing t-70's  15x8 rears and the fronts are 15x7 narrowed to 15x5's w/ bf  Goodrich radial tires(not period correct but it sure drives good)     (I will take $ 1500 .00 less for the car  minus wheels and tires) I have copys of the original title and the family transfer title  , and the one to me all  dating back to new. also available are all the parts taken off and this car could easily be restored back to original by removing 4 welded (to frame) brackets on the front end.

ive tried to be as honest about the workings and non workings of the car as I don't like surprises and don't like giving them.. its not perfect but its damn sure cool as it can be. its a real attention grabber and you don't have to worry about a duplicate parking next to you at a cruise in or car show and it is still a 58 corvette. any questions or concerns feel free to call or come and inspect...513-932-1933   or if no answer(no machine) call 513-235-7768 or email at ohiohotrods@embarqmail.com car is sold as is and I reserve right to end auction early as it is for sale locally-- possible PREPAID delivery within 400 miles of Lebanon, ohio   CALL FIRST AND ASK --  NO TEXTS

The story of the 2014 Chevrolet SS: "Luxury, power, refinement, handling"

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

Not including the women and men who built it, the 2014 Chevrolet SS has only been seen in person by a piddling number of people - fewer humans than would fill the gymnasium at a high school volleyball game. Not including the men and women who built it, no one has driven it. Even so, it is already saddled with two controversies: the way it looks and the way it shifts.
First to that shifting. Did we love the last Americanized Holden, the awesomely sportsome Pontiac G8 GXP, and its six-speed manual? Of course. Do we wish the SS came with a six-speed manual? Of course. But we'd like a toboggan to come with a manual transmission. We'd put a manual transmission on a weasel if we could because we're just wired that way; if it moves, it should come with a stick and a clutch. Or at least the option.
Let's climb down off the ledge, though. We haven't driven the SS and we have no idea how good (or not) the automatic is. And the Hobson's Choice in transmissions when it comes to sport sedans like the BMW M5, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and Jaguar XFR-S and, oh yeah, cars-that-really-should-have-manuals like the Audi R8 and Nissan GT-R and Porsche 918 and every single Lamborghini and Ferrari, for instance, hasn't stopped us from enjoying what is clearly the gruesome, dual-clutched demise of Western automotive civilization. Because in spite of our ululations at the dying of the six-speed light, we understand.

Chevrolet Camaros at SEMA are a mobile accessory catalog

Wed, 06 Nov 2013

Chevy's goal at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas this week seems to be to show as much of its Performance and Accessories catalog as possible. That's why it brought three different Camaros - two with V8s and one powered by a V6 - with all of the best goodies from the catalog already fitted.
We gave a more in-depth recap of the Performance Camaro V8 Concept, the Performance Camaro V6 Concept and the Performance Garage Concept already, but we figured you'd like a short recap for each. It should be noted, though, that you can order all of the items you see here for your own Camaro, so be sure to take a long, hard look at our live galleries, just in case you're in the market for some mods.
Essentially, the Performance Garage Concept and the Performance V8 Concept are the same car - the only difference is that the later features a whole host of aesthetic tweaks in addition to its aftermarket, shorty exhaust headers and 2.75-inch exhaust. (The Performance Garage Concept has been usefully placed on its side; the better to see the new parts added to the vehicle.) The Performance V6 Concept is notable because, despite being a V6, there's no shortage of performance goodies fitted. All three of the Performance Camaros benefit from items from the Camaro ZL1, which can also be ordered through the catalog.

Chevrolet planning low-cost Corvette under Stingray?

Wed, 27 Feb 2013

If you're burnt out on musings about the Chevrolet Corvette, you'll want to go ahead and skip this post. Motor Trend reports General Motors is hard at work on a low-cost version of the seventh-generation sports car for 2015. Rumored to be called the Corvette Coupe, the car will forgo the Stingray and skip the 450-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine in favor of a 5.3-liter V8 with under 400 ponies. If you're keeping track, that's a shade of the same engine found behind the headlights of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
The report also suggests the Coupe will receive a number of aesthetic tweaks to separate it from the Stingray, including different front and rear fascias as well as new front fenders and a rear diffuser. Motor Trend says the point of all this is to cut the car's price tag, which means we may see a Corvette on showroom floors for less than $50,000 if this car comes to fruition.
