Up for auction is this absolutely beautiful 1960 Corvette pro touring project car. This project started with a perfect complete 1960 Corvette that had never been hit or had any body damage. The car was disassembled and the body was soda blasted down to the bare fiberglass. The body was fit and aligned with all the panels to insure perfect alignment and gaps for a show car finish. Everything was blocked and blocked and blocked to make it perfectly straight and smooth before the gorgeous Ultra blue and pearl silver paint was applied. The clearcoat was then blocked perfectly flat and then buffed to a mirror shine. The original chassis was replaced with a Progressive INC Modern replacement featuring late model Corvette front suspension and a triangulated 4 link rear suspension. The chassis features 4 wheel disc brakes with 13" rotors in the front with 4 piston calipers and 11" rotors in the rear with 2 piston calipers. The chassis also features adjustable coilovers on all 4 corners and a brand new 9" Ford rear with 3:55 gears and a posi unit. Chassis also includes all the brake lines pre bent and front and rear sway bars and much more. The engine is a brand new 355 small block Chevy featuring aluminum heads. We have all the documentation on the engine build. The transmission is a brand new 400 turbo with a Lokar shifter. We have just about everything to complete this awesome project, There is a brand new Ron Francis Wiring harness, heavy duty aluminum radiator, complete exhaust system, and much, much more! The hardtop has just come back from being completely redone including all new glass, rubber, headliner, hardware, And all the stainless polished! That just cost over $5,000.00! GM won't pay owners of recalled cars for lost value

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

Kenneth Feinberg, the man in charge of the General Motors compensation fund dealing with the its widespread ignition switch woes, has issued an informal, two-letter response to the plaintiffs in more than 70 lawsuits seeking redress for lost resale value of their Cobalts: "No." The cases were recently combined into one, but Feinberg told The Detroit News that the fund will deal "only with death and physical injury claims," and that "perceived diminished value" will get no consideration.
ALG, the firm specializing in establishing residual values, determined that Cobalt owners had lost $300 compared to the segment competition and doesn't envision any long-term effects from the recall situation. Feinberg's statement comes in advance of public details on how the compensation fund will work and adheres to GM's long-held position on the matter. The company has already asked a judge to throw out such suits using the pre-bankruptcy defense, even as it stopped using that defense in cases of injury and death.
With plenty of potential gain from the GM suit, however, don't expect the plaintiffs to give up yet. When Toyota was sued for the same reason during the unintended acceleration debacle, it eventually settled the case for between $1 billion and $1.4 billion just to get it over with. Since the 85 law firms involved in the Toyota litigation took home more than $250 million of that total, we shouldn't expect the attorneys to give up on a GM payout, either.

Artist imagines eerie world where cars have no wheels

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

The wheel ranks right up there with the telescope and four-slice toaster in the pantheon of inventions that have moved humankind forward. But what if a circle in three dimensions had never occurred to anyone, and we all had just moved on without it? Perhaps we'd be driving around in Lucas Motors Landspeeders with anti-gravity engines. Or maybe we'd have the same cars we do today, just without wheels.
That's the thought experiment that seems to have led French photographer Renaud Marion to create his six-image series called Air Drive. The shots depict cars throughout many eras of motoring that look normal except for one thing: they have no wheels. The models used include a Jaguar XK120, Cadillac DeVille (shown above), Chevrolet El Camino and Camaro, and Mercedes-Benz SL and 300 roadsters.
Perhaps one day when our future becomes our past, you'll be able to walk the street and see with your own eyes the rust and patina of age on our nation's fleet of floating cars. Until then, Monsieur Marion's photographs will have to do.

Why Cadillac thinks it needs to succeed in Europe to sell cars elsewhere

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

Ward's Auto has taken an interesting look at the renewed focus General Motors is showing towards Cadillac in Europe. Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe (pictured), says in order for the luxury brand to thrive in China, it first needs to succeed in the old country. The reason? Chinese buyers look to Europe for cues as to what's deemed worthy of the term "luxury." There are hurdles to the plan, however. In addition to the fact that the EU is flooded with high-end nameplates, GM doesn't necessarily have the distribution network in place to put buyers behind the wheel.
Combine that with persistent economic woes and Cadillac's checkered past marred by a lack of diesel engine options and a bankrupt distributor, and the road ahead for the brand looks like less of an uphill climb and more like a straight-up cliff face. But Docherty is optimistic and says she has a plan for the brand. We recommend heading over to Ward's for a closer look at the full read.
