1967 Corvette Convertible, real deal 427 big block car, in nice dry storage for many many years. Originally optioned with 427-390HP, automatic, side pipes, power brakes and was a radio delete model, crazy group of options! The automatic was removed years ago and converted to a 4-speed, the car was clearly an automatic car originally based on the engine stamp, and the PG designation written on the rear bulkhead. The original automatic radiator is still present with the integral transmission cooler fittings on the passenger side tank. Check out the engine stamp pad, sure looks authentic to me. Originally a Sunfire Yellow car with standard black vinyl interior as indicated by the trim tag, this car suffered some driver side damage years ago and was repaired in the 80's. It appears that the left front park light panel, left door, left rear fender, left lock pillar, and decklid were replaced. The left lower side fender louvers show some minor repair evidence from the back side, but does not appear to have been replaced. The replacement door is a real one year only 67 door with the lock control knob in the proper location. The body lines appear to be very nice, gaps are nice, hood and headlight fit is very good. Headlight buckets still retain 3 original T3 bulbs, and the dated motors have been removed, cleaned and lubed and ready to install. The car has received a set of stainless sleeved calipers and rebuilt master cylinder in recent years along with the rubber brake line hoses. The engine runs and sounds great, drives and stops. Frame is very solid, only minor rust, picture of front suspension shows typical surface rust flecks for an unrestored 50 year old car. Sorry, no tank sticker, gas tank has been replaced, sure, I wish it had one too!! So, why am I selling this big block Corvette?? I have way to many irons in the fire and other projects that I need to get completed ahead of this one. No, it is not a fire sale, if it doesn't meet my reserve, I will keep it stashed away until I do have time to get it done. This is probably the most complete, original big block project that is a super easy restoration, or just a quick paint job, minor maintenance, and cleaning for a daily driver. I am timing this auction to coincide with Bloomington Gold at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on June 25-27 since this car is located within 2 hours of the show. I will deliver it to the show free of charge, and the car will be available for inspection the week of the show. I strongly suggest personal inspection or hire a knowledgeable inspector. I am representing this car based on what I see and my personal opinion. There are plenty of very knowledgeable Corvette folks located within a couple of hours from the car. Send your experts to look at this car and let them tell you their opinion. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time for any reason, the car is for sale via other channels as well. I have set a reasonable reserve for this desirable 67 Big Block Corvette Convertible. Selling in "as-is" condition, do your homework and inspections, I can provide additional pictures.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Convertible offers a few more views before reveal

Mon, 04 Mar 2013

Over the weekend, Chevrolet released its first images of the new 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Now, ahead of the droptop's official introduction tomorrow at the Geneva Motor Show, the automaker has given us a few more shots of the softop C7 showing off the car's rump albeit from a high, strategically positioned angle.
From this angle, it's hard to get a sense for how long and flat the decklid really is, but we can easily see that, like the rest of the C7's design, the new convertible's decklid and tonneau cover are far more detailed than the current car. We also get a better look at the rear haunches sans brake vents, which have apparently been moved to underneath the car in order to accommodate the top's hard cover.
As for the overall styling of the C7 convertible, with the top erected, we get some idea of what a coupe design (as opposed to the Stingray's fastback shape) would look like on this car. The C5 Corvette most recently had a coupe model that did away with the large glass hatchback, and we recently reported on a low-cost "coupe" model potentially being added to the C7's repertoire.

800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.

Why the Corvette's Performance Data Recorder can be illegal in some states

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

The Performance Data Recorder with Valet Mode available on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray seems like a fantastic tool for many owners. Whether they are taking 720p video while lapping the track in their new 'Vette, or just want to protect their purchase from inconsiderate joyriders, the system offers a lot of functionality in one package. However, one of the PDR's features might get buyers in trouble with the law, and it has nothing to do with recording some illicit high-speed driving on a favorite back road. The problem hinges on the various state laws concerning a person's right to privacy.
According to a letter posted by Jalopnik, Chevy dealers are asking 2015 Corvette owners not to use the Valet Mode portion of the PDR because it records audio in the cabin, in addition to performance specs. That's a problem because privacy laws vary from state to state with some requiring just one side's consent to tape sound and others requiring all parties to agree. According Jalopnik, 15 states mandate everyone's permission beforehand, but it's not clear whether these numbers are up to date. (Actually, the report varies, saying 13 states in some places and 15 in a list.)
According to the letter, Chevy is already working on a software update for the near future to rectify the issue. It's possible that simply adding a warning to drivers and the ability to turn off the audio recording function in Valet Mode might solve the problem. Obviously, this doesn't preclude Corvette drivers from using the performance aspect of the PDR, and owners are free tape lap after lap at the track.
