This 2012 Torch Red C6 LT1 model Corvette coupe has been extremely well cared for and has been regularly serviced by the original dealer throughout its life. I am the second owner. The vehicle was traded in to the original dealer, I purchased the vehicle the following day with 10000 miles on the odometer. I purchased this vehicle shortly after I retired because I had been smitten with Corvette fever when they first came on the market in 1953. I was driving down the street one day and saw this car on the used car lot and thought what the heck, at least I can test drive one.. an hour later I owned it. I was a bit concerned because I had developed an intense dislike for driving any significant distance because of the boredom and general discomfort associated with long car trips. This car changed all that for us, my wife and I are always amazed at what a pleasure it is to drive. We also enjoy the waves and smiles people give us when they see the car. The discussions you can get into with other car enthusiasts are well beyond being just interesting. A couple months after purchase we decided to travel to the West coast, in preparation for the 5 to 6000 mile trip. I replaced the OEM tires at 11,000 miles with new Michelin Pilot Sport tires for improved road handling and reduced road noise (the new Michelins now have 11,300 miles on them). 80% of the accumulated miles on the car are highway cruising miles. The OEM tires are in my garage can be made available for a small cost. If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive introduction into the pleasures of driving Corvettes this may be the car for you. If you are looking for the hot rod version try the much more expensive Z0x models, they have upwards of 600hp off the factory floor. Mine has a mere 430 horsepower. Both are a hoot to drive. The original Radio/CD player has been replaced by a Pioneer AVIC 8000NEX. The AVIC 8000NEX is a full function SiriusXM/ AMFM All features of the NEX are easily reviewed by googling AVIC 8000NEX and downloading the user manual. The original manual for the NEX will be included with the car.

GM warning 800,000 owners that their cars may need oil changes more frequently than they say

Fri, 05 Apr 2013

The days of changing your engine oil every 3,000 miles are long gone thanks to most cars having automatic oil monitoring systems, but about 800,000 General Motors vehicles apparently have incorrect monitoring software that is leading to premature engine component wear. According to Autoweek, certain 2010-2012 Buick LaCrosse, Regal, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain models equipped with 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines could be going too long in between oil changes resulting in a higher-than-normal number of warranty claims for the engine's balance chain. The balance chain links the balance shaft to the crankshaft, and a worn one can produce higher noise levels.
As a fix, GM dealers will be reprogramming the software for the monitors in an effort to reduce the interval between oil changes, which varies based on driving habits and conditions. Through February 2015, the software update will be done at no cost to vehicle owners, but since this is not a recall, after that point, it will be up to the discretion of dealers as to whether or not they will charge for the service. What isn't immediately clear is whether GM plans on giving assistance to out-of-warranty customers who are experiencing engine issues from the worn chain.

Artist imagines eerie world where cars have no wheels

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

The wheel ranks right up there with the telescope and four-slice toaster in the pantheon of inventions that have moved humankind forward. But what if a circle in three dimensions had never occurred to anyone, and we all had just moved on without it? Perhaps we'd be driving around in Lucas Motors Landspeeders with anti-gravity engines. Or maybe we'd have the same cars we do today, just without wheels.
That's the thought experiment that seems to have led French photographer Renaud Marion to create his six-image series called Air Drive. The shots depict cars throughout many eras of motoring that look normal except for one thing: they have no wheels. The models used include a Jaguar XK120, Cadillac DeVille (shown above), Chevrolet El Camino and Camaro, and Mercedes-Benz SL and 300 roadsters.
Perhaps one day when our future becomes our past, you'll be able to walk the street and see with your own eyes the rust and patina of age on our nation's fleet of floating cars. Until then, Monsieur Marion's photographs will have to do.

Chevrolet planning low-cost Corvette under Stingray?

Wed, 27 Feb 2013

If you're burnt out on musings about the Chevrolet Corvette, you'll want to go ahead and skip this post. Motor Trend reports General Motors is hard at work on a low-cost version of the seventh-generation sports car for 2015. Rumored to be called the Corvette Coupe, the car will forgo the Stingray and skip the 450-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine in favor of a 5.3-liter V8 with under 400 ponies. If you're keeping track, that's a shade of the same engine found behind the headlights of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
The report also suggests the Coupe will receive a number of aesthetic tweaks to separate it from the Stingray, including different front and rear fascias as well as new front fenders and a rear diffuser. Motor Trend says the point of all this is to cut the car's price tag, which means we may see a Corvette on showroom floors for less than $50,000 if this car comes to fruition.
