Today we have listed for sale a 1969 Chevrolet El Camino - a well loved, highly pampered, mildly customized and super sharp car/truck that is clean, rust free and very nicely done. This is one of two vehicles that we have for sale currently. They both belong to a gentleman who purchased a new 2014 Corvette and he's decided to let a couple of his toys go to help fund it. All of his cars are super nice, and if it needs done, (and sometimes if it isn't necessarily 'needed') it gets done. I will do my best to describe it so that you feel you know it, and to point out any and all problems (darn few). It's hard to show the total story of this pickup in the words I use, but I have added as many pictures as possible - I tried to use pictures that covered the overall feel and look of the car. I use lower resolution so that anyone in the world can download them with relative ease. Please be aware that this car is advertised and for sale locally, nationally and globally, and we do reserve the right to end this auction at any time if the vehicle sells before auction ends. This classic '69 'Camino is definitely for sale and definitely on the money price wise. If you are SERIOUS about the car - please call my cell # 503.580.6225 if I don't answer the first time - try again later - if I am at work I may not be able to answer your call. Please be considerate of the time. This is an amazingly clean turn key car with a ton of money spent on it. Buy it today and be the envy of those who hesititated and missed.  El Caminos - one of my favorite vehicles - and largely misunderstood. Is it a car? Is it a truck? Truly - they are both. With a full frame underneath, they are one of the most versatile vehicles ever made. A Chevelle / Malibu with a box in back. Good for everything but a back seat, but your Coupe can't haul what this one can! This is only being sold as the current owner has purchased a new 2014 Corvette. He and the previous owner have spent a ton on it - and it's ready for the next owner, who really needs to do nothing but turn the key, keep it cleaned and enjoy it. One thing I can't tell you, that may come up, is was this an SS396 car? The hood and door panels say yes, but the problem is that in 1969 there is no indication in the VIN that is was, or wasn't. I wanted to make that perfectly clear, so we are NOT calling it an SS. I will go through the vehicle and tell you what I do know. The cowl tag tells us that it's a model code 69-1360, a Malibu El Camino. The paint code is 67 67, which denotes the original color as Burgandy upper and lower (never had a vinyl top) Trim code is 755 (black coated fabric) followed by B80 B90 stainless roof drip molding and door window frame molding. The build date code is 05A which denotes first week in May production. The mileage at 09113 is probably 109k, and that's not bad for a 1969 vehicle. Under the hood we find an aluminum head, center bolt valve cover GM Crate ZZ4 350 (see the tag still on the oil pan) whic should be a 355 HP 405 lb/ft torque. The gentleman who originally 'hopped up' this El Camino was a GM parts rep, and had access to all the 'cool' stuff. The current owner added the Vintage Air heat and Air Conditioning setup, as well as the trick serpentine set up with all polished and chromed pulleys, small compressor, power steering pump and alternator - which are all upgraded. I would hazard a guess that there are very few miles on this engine. The carburetor tag reads 1904, and my guess is that it's an Edelbrock Quadrajet carburetor. It looks like, and probably is pretty much new. It has an electric choke. The intake is an Edelbrock Performer Air Gap aluminum set up. The air cleaner on top is a 14 inch K&N. The valve covers are Chrome GM ones. Headers are HPC coated Hooker Super Competition model and they flow into a pretty much new exhaust system with Flowmasters and a nice crossover setup. The sound is healthy, not too rowdy, but you KNOW that something gnarly is under the hood. An HEI distributor and Moroso Spiral Core wires take the spark to the plugs. Battery is brand new, two weeks old, and is an AC Delco Professional Series with 700 Cold Crank amps. There is a battery shut off just to the rear of the battery on the inner fender area. (the inner fenders are both steel, not plastic) This engine is beefy, has a nice cam lope and has gobs of power. The transmission is a Turbo 350 with just a mild shift kit, no hard 'bang' shifts. The differential is 'open', or not a posi. Power steering makes it turn and park easily. The brakes up front are power disc, and drums are out back. There is an upgraded sway bar up front and upgraded gas shocks all around. Wheels are Billet Specialties all around, tires are 225-50R15 up front and 275-50%15 BFG T/A's out back - the tires are like new. The car drives wonderfully - is solid, quiet and squeak/rattle free. Brakes don't pull, nothing funny or funky. You will love the exhaust bark - and sticking your foot in it a bit ever now and again is something you will enjoy doing. It pulls strong, and hard - and it's got lot of 'oomph' to put you back into the seat. This truck is a super nice driver of top quality. Inside, the interior is like new. Headliner, 80/20 loop pile carpets, sill plates, seats, door panels, weatherstrips, dash pad, you name it - it's new. The Vintage air keeps the inside cool when you need it to, and warm when needed as well. There's a Custom Autosound AM/FM/Cassette sending tunes out to a rear cab wall mounted Pioneer amp and into Pioneer 4 way 6x9's. Autometer 'Autogage' guages cover the oil pressure, voltage and temperature, and an Autometer rev limiter type tach covers the R's. The steering wheel is a 'sport type', that looks like factory, but I am not sure it is - and it's like brand new, with a correct vintage era center cap. As mentioned before - the door panels say SS396, but there is no SS insignia on the dash, so we don't think it to be, nor are we claiming it to be an SS. The interior is super clean, never been smoked in, and is like new throughout. One thing I like is that the shifter is the original one, and no aftermarket floor shifter - personally I am not a fan of 'em. You'll just not find any vehicle with a cleaner or nicer interior period. All the glass is good, side windows have been dark tinted (a couple of 'chips' on the tinting) - the windshield has been replaced. No breaks or chips. Outside - the El Camino is super nice again. The paint color is a base clear in a 90's Corvette Torch Red - a great bright red color with little to no orange peel, and a nice deep shine. This paint has been on for about 15 years, maybe a squeak more - so any issues would be making themselves known (there is one set of small bubbles at the bottom of one front fender - see picture) It's got very subtle flames in a purple pearl (some call them ghost flames) and all of the pinstriping has been done by Mitch Kim who is a renowned pinstriper of top quality in a light tangerine orange One Shot. His work is top notch and tasteful - some of the tastiest lines you will ever find. The floor pans are as new - and show no signs of having had any repair ever. Just super nice - and as nice as they come - you can see this in the pictures - nothing covered, nothing hidden - just honest and as the General made them. There is no road salt used in our area EVER, and the sheet metal you will find in our well kept native cars and trucks is as nice as you will find anywhere, and the plastics don't degrade as you might find in a hot, arid and drier climate. The bed cover is a 'BedCover' by Gaylords, it's a hard cover that is hinged in front, gas strut supported and it's lockable. Very nice, and color matched to boot. A rubber bed mat protects the bed floor - and the bed is as nice as it gets for a 45 year old hauler. There is no rust or rot in the bed. The bumpers are either new or have been  really beautifully rechromed, and are both super nice. Trim is all nice, and some has been deleted. You will note that the tailgate has been smoothed, the front side marker lights have been deleted, and the front header panel seams filled. The hood, as mentioned before is the domed SS variety with the chromed grilles in it. The radio antenna has been frenched and is power. Grille is like new.  We have not wahed, detailed, fluffed, buffed or rattle canned the truck in any way - it's just how it's been kept, and kept indoors for the last twenty plus years to boot. This is about as nice as they come for a driver - and the only thing better would be a full time show car. This is simply an awesome truck that you can hop in and drive dependably, cruise, show, daily drive - or just have fun with as you wish. It's an eye catcher and attention grabber and not for those who don't want to start conversations, nor for anyone who wants to be 'low key'. It's as nice as it gets - and I challenge you to find a nicer Camino anywhere at any price.  This truck is better than any stocks or bonds and as good as money in the bank, if not better.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us and we will answer questions to the best of our ability.

Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is a Swiss hit

Mon, 04 Mar 2013

We've just received an early peek at the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible here at the Geneva Motor Show. General Motors was kind enough to let us attend the final dress-rehearsal for its press conference scheduled for tomorrow's opening media day, and we've come away with a good look at the droptop C7 in person.
In the metal, the new Corvette Convertible seems somehow less avant-garde than the Coupe, even in Z51 Performance Package guise. That's not necessarily a bad thing - more of an observation. That initial impression may be because the C7's new greenhouse is one of its most prominent departures from Corvettes past. While we didn't get to see the top erected, there's no rear side window in the stock images that Chevy has already released, suggesting the C7 convertible's profile will look a lot like its C6 predecessor. And with the new power tonneau cover in place, there are also no rear ducts that come as part of the Z51 package (they've been moved under the car).
As with its predecessor, the tonneau is a handsome double-bubble piece, and the body-color "waterfall" element into the cabin between the seats has made it to the new model as well. Thus, the overall look with the top down should be a bit more familiar to prior-gen C6 owners - if you're one of those put off by the C7's new shape, you'll probably appreciate the convertible bodystyle more than the coupe.

Pics Aplenty: Meet the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra [w/poll]

Thu, 13 Dec 2012

Today was a pretty big day for General Motors, debuting the all-new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light-duty pickup trucks ahead of their official showcase at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. And now that the dust has settled at GM's big reveal event, we've had a chance to snap dozens of photos of the new pickup pair from every angle.
We already told you the important bits earlier today (click here in case you missed it), but let's recap. Under the hood are three new engines - a 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8 (you know, a version of the small-block that'll also be found under the hood of the C7 Corvette), all mated to six-speed automatic transmissions. The 2014 model year marks the return of the Z71 off-road package with Rancho shocks, front tow hooks and beefier underbody protection. Inside, there's a host of new technology and a greater focus on better quality and refinement.
Some of the nitty-gritty specifics (like engine output numbers and fuel economy) have yet to be revealed, and since we haven't driven the finished products yet, it's hard to say how these trucks will fare against rivals like the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150. For now, we can only judge these two books by their covers, and while we do like the designs of the new trucks, we Autoblog staffers are torn on exactly which one looks best.
