1970 "hot rod" custom El Camino 350 motor with 4-bolt mains. (the engine I.D. on the block checks out), not the original engine, mileage unknown TH 350 tranny with brand new Hurst shifter. Car had 4:11s when I got it. Changed to 3:44s for better distance driving Car is tubbed with Mickey Thompson 15" wides inside the wheel wells, 4-link suspension Fuel cell in bed, about 16 gals. Breather punched small hole in tonneau cover Whole car freshly rewired complete. new big Auto Meter tach and gages Car freshly painted, has full-polished American wheels, professionally cut and welded hood Engine has new lifters and pushrods, new retro valve covers, ceramic coated headers, new aluminum radiator, and electric fan (I never turn it on, car runs cool, (180-190) Hilborn Electronic fuel injection, (tune it with your laptop) Runs great and sounds good. Cam lopes a bit, not too radical This car always draws a crowd at shows, I have over $40,000+ total in car, injectors alone were over $8000, $25,000 + invested in the past two years I know I'll never get the mega-bucks I put in to the car out. Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war
Sun, 30 Dec 2012A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?

2014 Chevrolet Malibu gets more torque, more room and inspiration from the Impala
Fri, 31 May 2013The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu, having stared at the Impala across the showroom floor for a year, gets nips and tucks all over inspired by its larger brother. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder in the base car will get a stop-start system and 23 city miles per gallon, 35 highway, each number representing a one-mpg improvement over the 2013 car. Output is 196 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque.
Opt for the 2.0-liter turbo and, while power holds steady at 259 hp, torque goes up by 14 percent to a striking 295 lb-ft (a figure Chevy calls best in the class). The final details include newly programmed transmission shift points and faster shifts, for better engaging and enjoying the added power.
Looks-wise, the grille's been reshaped to be more in line with the new Chevrolet look, a narrower upper grille hovering over a larger lower grille.
