HELLO TO ALL. THIS IS OUR FAMILY OWNED 1959 CHEVY IMPALA 2 DOOR COUPE THAT HAS BEEN VERY MILDLY CUSTOMIZED AS YOU CAN SEE. SUPER SHARP CRUISER WITH A SLEEPER MID-YEAR CORVETTE L-79 327CI/350HP MOTOR.

PLEASE NOTE: There are no airbags or hydraulics in the car, it has just been lowered. I have NEW front springs and NEW front shocks that go with the car if the new buyer wants to bring the ride height back to "normal".

My husband and I purchased it in Pennsylvania a couple of years ago, while down there for the classic car show. We always wanted either a 59 or 60 Impala coupe, and since prices on them have been skyrocketing, it's been difficult...if not impossible finding one priced reasonably that was reliable enough to be used daily. Once we got it back to NY, we garaged it and worked on it a little at a time, turning it into what it is today, a nicely presentable and cool driver. It has received NEW PAINT, nearly completely NEW INTERIOR and a lot of minor detailing work has been done as well as you'll see in the pictures.

OPTIONS:

Power steering

Manual drum brakes

Bench seat interior

327ci/350hp Corvette L79 V8 (code "HT" from 65-67 Corvettes)

Automatic transmission on the column

Dual rear antennas

Dual exhaust exiting behind rear wheels

14" steel wheels with whitewall tires and stock hubcaps

Fender skirts

Mechanically the hydraulic lifter 327ci/350hp L-79 mid-year Corvette motor is nice and sound with good oil pressure and behaves well. This is a RARE and seriously sought after motor, and i've had several Corvette experts estimate the value at somewhere around $5-6K just for the motor. It is a virtually STOCK motor with correct stock exhaust manifolds, stock 4bbl. carburetor and stock intake manifold as well. Transmission is a stock automatic on the column that shifts good (has a mild shift kit installed).  Now as for driving the car, i've taken it out mostly around the neighborhood here and there for a few functions, and sometimes we take it to the Island for a cruise. Brakes work well. Steers nice and swift without too much if any play in the wheel. Overall very sound and reliable car that can be used daily with minor tlc depending on what your likes are.

Motor was originally a 283ci 2bbl. V8 that was upgraded some years ago (I do not have the original motor). Like I said, you could get in and drive this car, since it's one of those vehicles that doesn't like sitting for long periods of time (the more you drive it, the better it gets).

Interior has had a lot of work done. NEWLY reupholstered seats, NEW carpet, NEW Door panels, NEW armrest pads, original headliner (some water stains on it). Dash is original and looks to have never been repainted. Steering wheel has a couple of cracks. Overall a very presentable driver quality interior.

Underside is very nice and dry overall, and has a NICE frame, VERY SOLID trunk with some surface rust and a few tiny pinholes. Floorboards are in fairly good shape as well, with no large holes or any major rot evident (they may have been patched in a couple of places but looks solid and clean overall).

THIS 1959 CHEVY IMPALA 2 DOOR COUPE IS NOT PERFECT, SO PLEASE LOOK AT PICTURES, ASK QUESTIONS OR COME SEE IT IN PERSON. Paint was recently redone with base/clear coat and looks good with fairly good shine overall as you can see in the pictures. The rear quarters had lower 1/2" quarters installed and there is some filler by lower section of the car, especially by inner wheel wells. Overall a decent job but nowhere near being show quality paintjob. Panel fit is ok for a 50s Chevy but should be adjusted here and there as you see fit (especially by trunk lid and passenger door). Could still use some minor wetsanding and final buffing. Chrome is good for a driver and shows well but would need replacing for anything better. Front driver's side window has cracks. Not working: horn, radio, speedometer/odometer, couple of gauges not hooked up, perhaps a bulb or two may need replacing here and there as needed. Exhaust manifold gasket on driver's side has a leak. Thermostat may stick at times and should be replaced if you're going to be driving in stop-and-go traffic often. Engine puffs a hint of white smoke at startup and may need seals replaced down the line. Weatherstripping should be replaced. Fender skirts held with screws to keep them from falling off. Rear driver's side taillight lens has a crack in it.

There are various other small issues with it, as with any other old car, and i'm not gonna sit here and list them all as it would be no point. So overall she is nowhere near perfect and will need some form of TLC depending on how nice you want it to be and what you plan to do with the car.

If you just want a NICELY PRESENTABLE DRIVER needing tlc, this is the car for you. If you want a show car, it will need some serious investment to bring it up to that level of course. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE BIDDING OR SERIOUSLY INTERESTED TO COME LOOK AT IT IN PERSON. I WILL BE GLAD TO SHOW IT TO YOU TOP TO BOTTOM SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO. AT THE VERY LEAST TAKE A LOOK AT ALL THE ADDITIONAL PICTURES ON THE LINK ABOVE.

GM investing $167m in Spring Hill for new midsize vehicles

Tue, 06 Aug 2013

General Motors has announced a large investment in its Spring Hill, Tennessee facility. The former home of Saturn production will be getting a $167 million addition to a previously announced $183 million, to cover a pair of new midsize vehicles. The investment is expected to create 1,800 jobs at the factory.
That $350 million is being divvied up for a pair of programs at Spring Hill. The first will take the bulk of the money ($223 million) and create 1,000 of the 1,800 jobs, while the other will take the remaining $127 million and generate the leftover 800 positions. But GM says the investment will cover "midsize vehicle programs." So what could they be?
The leading candidate in our minds is a new crossover for Buick, called the Anthem, that will slot between the Encore and Enclave, but will be slightly smaller than the Equinox and Terrain. As we've explained, the new model will likely be the first product to sport GM's new D2UX platform, which will eventually replace both the Delta and Theta platforms. Spring Hill is already building the Equinox, so there could be some credence to this theory.

GM recalls Chevy Express, GMC Savana over rollaway concern

Mon, 21 Jan 2013

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall notice for a small number of General Motors fullsize vans due to possible rollaway concerns. On certain 2013 Chevrolet Express and 2013 GMC Savana models, it is possible to remove the key from the ignition without the shifter being in park.
Only 980 total units are being affected by this recall, and GM is fixing the issue by replacing the ignition cylinder and associated keys. Affected Chevy vans were built during most of November and December while its GMC counterpart was only built for a week in November. The recall goes into effect on January 23, and to find out if your vehicle applies to the recall, the GM and NHTSA contact numbers can be found on the official recall notice, which is posted below.

Pics Aplenty: Meet the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra [w/poll]

Thu, 13 Dec 2012

Today was a pretty big day for General Motors, debuting the all-new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light-duty pickup trucks ahead of their official showcase at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. And now that the dust has settled at GM's big reveal event, we've had a chance to snap dozens of photos of the new pickup pair from every angle.
We already told you the important bits earlier today (click here in case you missed it), but let's recap. Under the hood are three new engines - a 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8 (you know, a version of the small-block that'll also be found under the hood of the C7 Corvette), all mated to six-speed automatic transmissions. The 2014 model year marks the return of the Z71 off-road package with Rancho shocks, front tow hooks and beefier underbody protection. Inside, there's a host of new technology and a greater focus on better quality and refinement.
Some of the nitty-gritty specifics (like engine output numbers and fuel economy) have yet to be revealed, and since we haven't driven the finished products yet, it's hard to say how these trucks will fare against rivals like the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150. For now, we can only judge these two books by their covers, and while we do like the designs of the new trucks, we Autoblog staffers are torn on exactly which one looks best.
