1974 Chevrolet Impala Spirit Of America on 2040-cars

Year:1974 Mileage:23062
Location:

Fairport, New York, United States

This is a very rare 1974 Chevrolet Impala "Sprit of America". This special edition vehicle was only available for 1974, 1975 & 1976 in celebration of the United States Bicentennial. There were only a little ever 2,100 produced for the entire three year run making this car a very rare version to own. It has certainly drawn a significant amount of attention when I took it to local cruise-ins. This car has the better optional 400ci small block engine with dual exhaust which gives it much more torque and horsepower vs. the standard 350.

The car is originally from Nebraska, then spent time in Pennsylvania before coming to NY. It has minimal amounts of surface rust on the underside and the frame of the car. The car is an absolute dream to drive and is literally like driving on air when cruising on the highway. This car could be driven very comfortably across the country as it starts right up and has a very strong running numbers matching low milage engine. The car has not been restored and therefore would be considered a very nice original "survivor".  Please pay close attention to the vehicle photos as to the condition of the car and I will send additional photos to folks that are seriously interested in the vehicle since I limited to 24 and I have at least another 24 pictures.

The following things are additional details of the vehicle:

  • the a/c will need to have a rubber vacuum housing replaced but the car has had the system upgraded to run on modern refrigerant
  • the rear main seal on the transmission does leak and will need to be replaced but car will drive as I monitor the AT levels every time before driving
  • there is one small dime sized hole in the trunk and there is some rust on both sides of the rear of the car near the front of the fender skirts
  • the plastic bumper inserts have dry rotted and will need to be replaced in the front and rear but are available from online vendors
  • the tires are at least 10 years old, have excellent tread and hold air without issues but has some wrinkling on the sidewalls from sitting
  • All of the lights, wipers, brakes including e-brake all work perfectly along with the horn
  • there is some bubbling under the vinyl top and I have tried to take a good selection of shot of the roof area to show these areas more clearly

HISTORY:

A limited-edition Spirit of America package was offered in 1974 on Sport Coupe models; primarily an appearance package, it featured white body paint, a white fullvinyl top, white upholstery with red or blue trim, color-keyed seat belts and floor mats, special wheel covers, optional white rally wheels, sports-styled dual remote outside rear view mirrors, a vinyl body side molding insert, and red pin-striping. Special fender and dashboard badges announced the package to passers-by and passengers.

This was the only year of the 1971–1976 models the Impala had a different front end design than the Caprice Classic, as other years used either a grille insert or previous year Caprice front to distinguish the two. The rooflines of the Impala coupes were revised. For 1974 the Custom Coupe was no longer a hardtop, with large fixed rear quarter glass and a thick B-pillar. The Sport Coupe, still a pillar-less hardtop, now used larger roll-down quarter glass like that of the 1971-73 Custom Coupe, and had a narrower, fastback style, flat back window similar to the 1966-68 Caprice coupes. The four-door sedan, four-door hardtop Sports Sedan and station wagons used carryover rooflines from 1973.

Engine offerings included the standard 145-horsepower 350 Turbo Jet V-8 on sedans and coupes, optional 150- and 180-horsepower 400 Turbo Fire V8s (the latter standard on Impala wagons), and 235-horsepower 454 Turbo Jet V8. In California, a 155-horsepower 350 V-8 with four-barrel carburetor was standard and the only engine options there were the 180-horsepower 400 and 454 V-8s.

Please if you have no feedback or are new to eBay please do not bid as I will reject your bids. This car is being sold as is with no warranties either expressed or implied.

GM won't pay owners of recalled cars for lost value

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

Kenneth Feinberg, the man in charge of the General Motors compensation fund dealing with the its widespread ignition switch woes, has issued an informal, two-letter response to the plaintiffs in more than 70 lawsuits seeking redress for lost resale value of their Cobalts: "No." The cases were recently combined into one, but Feinberg told The Detroit News that the fund will deal "only with death and physical injury claims," and that "perceived diminished value" will get no consideration.
ALG, the firm specializing in establishing residual values, determined that Cobalt owners had lost $300 compared to the segment competition and doesn't envision any long-term effects from the recall situation. Feinberg's statement comes in advance of public details on how the compensation fund will work and adheres to GM's long-held position on the matter. The company has already asked a judge to throw out such suits using the pre-bankruptcy defense, even as it stopped using that defense in cases of injury and death.
With plenty of potential gain from the GM suit, however, don't expect the plaintiffs to give up yet. When Toyota was sued for the same reason during the unintended acceleration debacle, it eventually settled the case for between $1 billion and $1.4 billion just to get it over with. Since the 85 law firms involved in the Toyota litigation took home more than $250 million of that total, we shouldn't expect the attorneys to give up on a GM payout, either.

Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.

Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]

Fri, 25 Jan 2013

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?
