1948 Chevrolet Truck 3800 Standard Cab Pickup 2-door 3.5l on 2040-cars
Itasca, Illinois, United States
My son has partially restored this truck with his own money and he has decided it is time to let her go. It runs and drives great! The whole fuel system is new up to the carburetor, with the carb being rebuilt. It stops great with rebuilt wheel cylinders and master cylinder. He also put new shoes on the front with brand new lines in the front. The rear lines and shoes are in great condition. The motor runs outstanding and it shifts without any grinding of gears or anything. The clutch works great as well. All of the mechanics on this truck are in great working condition. It is 99% completely original with everything still there. All of the switches, lights, and gauges work. The only lights that don't work, are the headlights, but he hasn't investigated why but assumes it is a bad ground. The brakes lights, taillights, turn signals, interior light, and blower motor all work. The glass is in decent condition except the drives side windshield. It has a chip the size of a penny towards the left side. The windows work and it also has original tires and rims. Both cab corners are rusted through, as well as the front floor corners inside the cab. They will need some patching for sure. There are little rust spots on some of the fenders as well. The wood and metal strips in the bed are completely gone. The sides have a few wholes in them that will need some patching as well. Overall this is great restoration truck that just needs body work. My son would keep going with it but doesn't have the tools to do the body work. We also have the title in hand.

Chevy Corvette Stingray picks up another award, this time from Automobile
Mon, 18 Nov 2013The new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has picked up another buff book accolade after capturing Road and Track's Performance Car of the Year award. The seventh-generation of America's sports car (sorry Viper, Mustang, et al.) has been named Automobile Magazine's Automobile of the Year.
Automobile's award to the Corvette over competitors is the mirror image of its rival Motor Trend, which named the Cadillac CTS its car of the year over the C7. The CTS was, according to the Automobile team, the closest contender to the mighty Stingray. Great news all around for General Motors it seems.
As for what pushed the Corvette past its distant, four-door cousin, Automobile commended its excellent, 6.2-liter V8 calling the car's performance "simply awesome" while also remarking that it is easier to drive fast than ever before thanks to steering and chassis tweaks. Following a theme set by other publications, there were also plaudits for the interior, of all things, with the buff book complimenting the car's ergonomics and material quality, while also praising the standard seats.
Camaro spy shots show subtly different grille, front fascia
Sun, 03 Feb 2013It looks like there some changes in store for the Chevrolet Camaro - the only thing is that we just don't know what Chevy has up its sleeve. Looking at these spy shots, we'd initially be inclined to think that there is just a minor facelift or a new special edition, but upon closer inspection, there are a few oddities about this car that definitely have us intrigued.
The most obvious difference on this prototype is the slightly restyled front fascia with a smaller lower air inlet and the two-bar grille. Then we get to some of the car's mysterious details. For starters, this fascia has the SS vent above the grille, but it looks to be blocked off. Granted this could just be a one-off piece used for testing. What really piqued our interest was at the rear of the car where it has quad exhaust outlets that are used on the ZL1. Could this be the LS7-powered Camaro that we reported on back in December?
At this point, your guess is as good as ours as to what we're looking at here, so let us know in the comments what you think this could be.
Steve McQueen's last movie car, now Pawn Stars-owned, up for auction [w/video]
Sun, 03 Feb 2013The last car Steve McQueen ever drove in a movie is officially up for auction. The 1951 Chevrolet Styline DeLuxe Convertible you see above is now owned by none other than Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars fame, but once ferried McQueen around the set of his last film, 1980's The Hunter. That flick saw the Bullit star play a bumbling bounty hunter and didn't exactly set the box office on fire. McQueen bought the car after production wrapped, and four years later it sold at his estate sale at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas.
Flash forward to 2003, and the convertible received a full restoration back to near-stock specifications. Hagerty Insurance estimates the car to be worth around $45,000 without the significant providence. Given its ties to one of film's most popular gearheads, the old Chevrolet could fetch up to 10 times that when it goes under the gavel in Ft Luaderdale, Florida on March 22. You can head over to the Auctions America site for more information. You can also check out the trailer for The Hunter below.
