I am selling my 1955 Chevrolet 3100 deluxe 5 Window short bed pickup. The truck has no engine or transmission but is set up for a small block Chevy and 700 transmission. This is obviously a major project. I currently have 12 vehicles and it has become obvious that I will not be able to complete or keep them all.

Drive train:

No engine or transmission.
GM 12 bolt rear end with 3:08 Posi. and drum brakes.

Chassis:

Heidt's coil over front clip with power rack and pinion steering and disc brakes.
The front cross member it tacked in. I have the calipers but not the caliper mounts. They are still available through Heidt's
Rear end mounting has been started with 4 bar and C notch. I have the bat wings. The axle is currently tacked to the frame.

Body/ interior:

Solid/ straight body with only minor rust in the passenger side interior kick panel area. Body work has been done other than final finish and prep prior to sitting. The cowl vent, side vent and fuel filler hole have been filled in with led. The cab floor has had a transmission tunnel added.
Body panels are aligned nicely and both doors close correctly.
I have all glass but the flat door glass. Wind wing glass and mechanisms come with the truck.
Bed is nice and straight.
There is currently no bed wood.
Tilt column is installed and was intended for swing pedal and firewall mounted master.

Contact me with any questions through ebay or call (714) 731-5129. I am available most any time to show the vehicle. The vehicle is available for local sale and the auction may be ended at any time.

There is no warranty on this vehicle and shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. I will assist where I can.

Watch this creative way to pull a truck's engine

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

Living in an apartment complex has its benefits, but for shade-tree mechanics who like/need to work on their own cars, it definitely has a number of disadvantages. Relatively simple tasks such as brake jobs and oil changes are difficult when you don't have dedicated driveway space, to say nothing of more in-depth repairs... like pulling an engine, for example.
For these types of challenges, a little ingenuity and plenty of muscle are needed to get the job done. Scroll down to watch these four men snatch the V8 out of a Chevrolet K1500 using nothing but a chain, landscape timber and good ol' fashioned brute strength. Good work, gentlemen.

Watch NASCAR racer Jeff Gordon put one over on a used car dealer... sorta

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Full Disclosure: in my younger days, I loved nothing more than tormenting passengers with my behind-the-wheel hijinks. Once, after a particularly artful handbrake turn on a two-lane at around 50 miles per hour, I left one backseat occupant crying in their own lap. This isn't necessarily something to be proud of, but it gives you a glimpse into why it is that I find this ad from Pepsi so damn disappointing. The premise is beautiful. Take NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon, give him a disguise and set him loose upon some unsuspecting used car dealer. Hilarity ensues.
Except that this Pepsi Max commercial is so obviously staged, it can't help but feel like some ham-fisted marketing fail. From the strategically placed aftermarket cupholder mounted mid-dash for the hidden camera to the fact that the supposed dealer Camaro is displayed as a 2009 model (Hint: Chevrolet didn't make any), this clip is about as organic as a Twinkie. Still, we would never turn down a chance to watch Gordon thrash on a rental-spec coupe - only problem is, he probably didn't even do the driving himself. Check it out below.

2013 Chevy COPO Camaro announced with two new engines and manual option

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

Chevrolet is following up the 2012 COPO Camaro with another limited run of the drag-strip-ready production car for 2013. Ditching the superchargers, the 2013 COPO Camaro can only be equipped with one of three naturally aspirated V8 engines, and other new features include the option of a manual transmission, new front springs, some minor styling changes and a lower starting price of $86,000. All cars are designed to abide by the rules of the NHRA's Stock Eliminator or Super Stock classifications, depending on in which series buyers wish to enter their Chevrolet Camaro.
Returning for 2013 is the 427-cubic-inch V8 producing 425 horsepower, but the new engines include a 325-hp 350-CID V8 and a 375-hp 396-CID V8. Buyers can select to purchase all three engines, and each will be matched with the sequence number of that car; the track-only COPO cars will not have vehicle identification numbers and can't be registered for street use.
Chevrolet is also offering unique enthusiast-specific options such as a COPO Build Book and the opportunity for owners to help assemble their car's engine at the Chevrolet Performance Build Center in Wixom, MI.
