For sale personal vehicle red 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS regular cab stepside truck. I purchased vehicle when it was  two years old with low miles and it has been my personal vehicle since. No farming. No construction. No off road. No towing (used years ago to pull children's 19-foot ski boat to nearby lake two or three times a year for three or four years). 4WD used on rare occasions during 2-4 inch Southern Illinois snowfalls. I publish newspapers in Southern Illinois and much of the mileage is highway miles to meetings. Driven daily. Kept truck  after purchasing 2008 truck for sentimental reasons. I love stepside trucks and they are becoming rare. It is the best truck I ever owned. One minor Kroger parking lot accident five years ago. Driver leaving parking lot was not watching and I swerved to avoid a more major accident. Bumper on driver's side grazed parking lot light standard. State Farm Insurance covered repair and I had bumper and lower vinyl, etc.  replaced new by ASE certified collision center. Catalytic converters were replaced three years ago. Transmission was rebuilt by certified ASE shop Clay's Transmission, Inc. ($1,700) thinking I was going to continue to drive the truck for many years to come. Tires excellent (see photo). New brakes last month on all four wheels to freshen. Regular maintenance at local shop. Washed weekly and waxed several times a year. Kept in carport. Reason for selling: One of my sons graduated from college in May in economics and begins his work on doctoral degree this summer. We need to downsize to take care of education expenses. Fair, low reserve. $300 PayPal deposit within 48 hours from winning bidder. Balance within four days. Certified bank check, etc. Local pickup, make arrangements to ship or deliver at your expense or I can hold as long as necessary. Anyone with fewer than 10 positive feedback, please contact me first.

Why Cadillac thinks it needs to succeed in Europe to sell cars elsewhere

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

Ward's Auto has taken an interesting look at the renewed focus General Motors is showing towards Cadillac in Europe. Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe (pictured), says in order for the luxury brand to thrive in China, it first needs to succeed in the old country. The reason? Chinese buyers look to Europe for cues as to what's deemed worthy of the term "luxury." There are hurdles to the plan, however. In addition to the fact that the EU is flooded with high-end nameplates, GM doesn't necessarily have the distribution network in place to put buyers behind the wheel.
Combine that with persistent economic woes and Cadillac's checkered past marred by a lack of diesel engine options and a bankrupt distributor, and the road ahead for the brand looks like less of an uphill climb and more like a straight-up cliff face. But Docherty is optimistic and says she has a plan for the brand. We recommend heading over to Ward's for a closer look at the full read.

Ford, Toyota clean up in Best Car For The Money Awards

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

The U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards picks winners by looking at the average transaction price, five-year total cost of ownership, the regard a car has from the automotive press, reliability figures from J.D. Power and Associates and safety data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The result, according to the magazine, is "the best combination of critical acclaim and long-term value."
Ford nabbed six of the 21 categories that received awards this year, the Focus, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Taurus, Escape and Edge getting trophies. Toyota and its Lexus and Scion sub-brands took another five, the Tacoma and Tundra owning the two categories given to pickup trucks. The other ten awards were split between Honda with three, Buick with two, and one each for Subaru, BMW, Hyundai, Chevrolet and Mazda.

Final C6 Corvette built in Bowling Green

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

With all of the attention given to the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray lately, you could be forgiven for thinking that it's already well along in production, yet tooling up for the new C7 has only just begun. In fact, production of the outgoing C6 generation in Bowling Green, Kentucky just halted on Thursday.
As the C6 has aged, production numbers have predictably ebbed along with demand, but this year, the addition of the 427 and 60th anniversary models resulted in an uptick in vehicles built - this, despite a model year shortened by around 25 percent to accomodate the new model changeover. The final C6 Corvette ever, No. 13,466 built this year, was a white 427 Convertible destined for the General Motors Heritage Center museum. The car's 7.0-liter V8 heart was assembled by Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter himself.
In total, Bowling Green pushed out 215,100 C6 Corvettes over nine years. If you're still a C6 fan at heart and are hoping to get a good deal on a phase-out model, step lively - Chevrolet reportedly had about 6,100 unsold units, which Autoweek suggests is good for around five and a half months of supply at the model's current sales rates. Given that demand will likely slacken even further as the C7 draws closer, that should be a big enough stockpile to keep dealers satisfied until 2014 Stingrays begin showing up on their forecourts in December.
