In this auction offered to you is a good running and driving 1957 3100 Suburban. Other than the fold out side windows, and Thomas bus seats in the rear, its an original survivor. The original 235 runs great and the 3 spd on the column shifts nice and smooth. It seems to have been "customized" in the 90's with the ever popular Hammer wheels and silver paint job. There are a few bad spots in the paint and a few bubbles underneath the paint but appears to be pretty solid underneath the paint. Its a great start to an awesome surf wagon or rat rod or just a good old driver like it is. The Michelin tires are in good shape, brakes are good, runs good, oil pressure is good, glass is good, the swing out windows even lock, what more do you need? The front seats are the worst part of the interior, they need to be covered but the rear seats are great and it has new carpet. The floorboards are solid as well as the wood section in the rear by the barn doors. Its a great old truck just like it is, the reserve is low and the highest bidder will get an awesome, super hard to find 57 Suburban. But....if you think like we do at Rusty Nuts Originals, we think it needs a lot and we want to build it for you. We have some suspension ideas, whitewalls, a small block conversion and some surfboards in mind. Give us a buzz at the shop at 864 387 6887 or shoot us an email at andy @ rustynutsoriginals . com to talk about what you want to do with it! We are a full service shop and offer everything from whitewall grinding to clip conversions, air ride, and drivetrain transplants. Visit our website to view some of our work and what we can do for you and this Suburban. If you like it just the way it is, great, its a great old truck and anyone would be proud to have it!

More Corvette Stingray Factoids: Vanishing panel gaps and 26-mpg LT1

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

During January's Detroit Auto Show, we managed a longer than expected wandering tag-team interview with C7 Corvette chief engineering exec Tadge Juechter (pictured above), and LT1 engine boss Jordan Lee (pictured below). They are, quite honestly, two of the very nicest bigshot lads to ever walk the engineering corridors of an American manufacturer. Both are enthralled by what they're doing for a day job. So are we.
We've followed the pre-sale anticipation for the Chevrolet C7 Corvette Stingray like an Oreck vacuum yanking every speck of dirt from a well-trampled carpet. Everything is reportable and contains a grain of further knowledge about this dramatically important and cheered-for car, as it continues to be pressured into representing all that is superior about the American dream. The Corvette wears one heavy cloak.
So, most of what was talked about has been expertly reported already right here on Autoblog. But, looking through our notes again, both Jeuchter and Lee added facts to the buzzing mix.

GM investing $167m in Spring Hill for new midsize vehicles

Tue, 06 Aug 2013

General Motors has announced a large investment in its Spring Hill, Tennessee facility. The former home of Saturn production will be getting a $167 million addition to a previously announced $183 million, to cover a pair of new midsize vehicles. The investment is expected to create 1,800 jobs at the factory.
That $350 million is being divvied up for a pair of programs at Spring Hill. The first will take the bulk of the money ($223 million) and create 1,000 of the 1,800 jobs, while the other will take the remaining $127 million and generate the leftover 800 positions. But GM says the investment will cover "midsize vehicle programs." So what could they be?
The leading candidate in our minds is a new crossover for Buick, called the Anthem, that will slot between the Encore and Enclave, but will be slightly smaller than the Equinox and Terrain. As we've explained, the new model will likely be the first product to sport GM's new D2UX platform, which will eventually replace both the Delta and Theta platforms. Spring Hill is already building the Equinox, so there could be some credence to this theory.

This is your 2014 Chevrolet SS

Sat, 16 Feb 2013

Think you've waited long enough for this? If so, then you'll want to savor the high-res photos we've so far been given of the 2014 Chevrolet SS, the first rear-wheel-drive performance sedan from The Bowtie in 17 years.
We all know its our version of the brand new VF-model Holden Commodore, but what's under the hood that earns the appellation "performance?" A 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine producing 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. That's 35 hp and lb-ft less than the same engine is expected to produce in the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. Chevrolet says the sedan will get from 0-to-60 miles per hour "in about five seconds."
Shifting comes courtesy of a six-speed automatic with paddles on the steering wheel, while stopping arrive via four-piston Brembo calipers up front, a single sliding piston in back. The forged aluminum wheels are 19-inchers all around, each set supporting right around 50 percent of the sedan's weight, and the aluminum hood and trunk are meant to keep the center of gravity low.
