If you are looking for a solid, complete, and original car to use for a restoration project, this hard-to-find '69 New Yorker hardtop can't be beat! You sure don't see many of these at classic car shows. Even in its current unrestored condition, it generates a lot of attention on the road. This one-owner California car with only 122,473 miles was just retired as a daily driver a few months ago. It was relocated to Tennessee in 2011, but has never been driven in the snow. The photos show the excellent condition of the wheel wells and rocker panels.

Runs and drives pretty well, but the 440 cu. in. V8 has a rough idle - possibly needs a tune up and/or carb overhaul. It does have a new battery and good tires. The power steering, power brakes, power windows, power door locks, power driver's seat, and manual reclining passenger seat are all functional. It has factory A/C, but the A/C and heater do not work. Not surprisingly, it does leak some engine and transmission oil. It also shows the normal wear and tear expected with 44 years of regular (but limited) use. Please note that the photos do not show the fading and chips in the paint very well; it is definitely in need of a repaint. The only known modifications are the addition of a temperature gauge and CD player/speakers. The original factory radio is included with the car, as are the original window sticker and purchase contract shown in the photos.

This description is accurate at the time of writing, and it is being offered for sale "AS IS", with no warranties expressed or implied. It is highly recommended that you inspect the vehicle in person to assure that you are comfortable with what you are buying. Please feel free to contact me by email if you have any questions.

Could Chrysler leave Michigan for Tennessee?

Tue, 18 Jun 2013

Detroit's Big Three could become the Big Two. According to an AP report in The Detroit News, state officials have been lobbying for Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne to select Tennessee as the location for Fiat's joint headquarters with Chrysler Group LLC.
This weekend, Marchionne met with Tennessee governor Bill Haslam at a ceremony celebrating the expansion of a Fiat subsidiary plant in the city of Pulaski. The AP report does not mention any serious talks about headquarters relocation, only that Tennessee officials have been "working me over pretty well," according to Marchionne.
Fiat hopes to complete its merger with the Auburn Hills-based automaker sometime next year, and earlier reports have stated that the company is seeking $10 billion in financing to buy the remaining bits of Chrysler. If the company were to relocate, it would join Nissan and Volkswagen in having major American automotive operations in Tennessee. Of course, that whole "Imported From Detroit" thing would need to go out the window, as well.

Honda may recall up to 1M vehicles for airbag issue, following Toyota's lead

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

It seems Toyota won't be the only one recalling the faulty Takata airbag inflators for long. Honda insiders in Japan claim that the company is getting close to announcing its own worldwide campaign that would begin before the end of June.
Unnamed sources close to Honda in Japan tell Automotive News that the company is pursuing an internal investigation into possibly affected models and is working with Takata to gather more information. They claim that it could involve even more than the 1.14 million cars worldwide that the automaker covered under the first recall for the problem in April 2013, including 561,000 vehicles in the US.
Toyota jumpstarted this process last week when it recalled over 2 million cars worldwide, including 844,277 in the US. Soon after, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began a preliminary evaluation into the issue following six reported incidents, and started assembling data about potentially affected models from Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Chrysler. NHTSA also began investigating Takata itself.

Marchionne uses racial epithet to describe what must power future Alfa Romeo models

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

Sergio Marchionne and his Fiat empire have a lot riding on the US return of the Alfa Romeo brand. The endeavor has been in progress for what feels like a lifetime - certainly for as long as Fiat has had the Chrysler brand under its Italian wing.
It's not surprising that Fiat CEO Marchionne needs a perfect first Alfa to mark a return to America. And here's where things get dicey. Nobody would argue with Marchionne's insistence that Alfa Romeo's be powered by Italian engines - as Marchionne himself is quoted to have said at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, "There are some things that are well done in Italy."
If not what he said, then, it's how he said it that has eyebrows raised. "I cannot come up with a schlock product, I just won't. I won't put an American engine into that car. With all due respect to my American friends, it needs to be a wop engine." Wait, what's that?
